Lucky 77
Well. It's official! I'm wearing the pump for my 77th round of chemo. Folfox 6 again with avastin, yay!. It's been over 1 year since I've enjoyed this little treat. Sadly I have to have the pump removed wed at 5pm. But I know I'll see it again in a few weeks. I celebrated by gorging myself at the chinese buffet. I'm sure…

Folfox #5
I went for Folfox treatment #5 fully expecting to be turned away for low platelet counts. I went from 110,000 treatment #2 to 66,000 for #3 then 44,000 for #4. So I expected the count to drop into the 30,000 and be turned away. Instead and I don't know why they climbed back to 66,000. Onc said I needed a week off to climb…

Kerry's Home!
Well, Kerry came home today. He talked the doctors into letting him be released and he should not have come home yet. He is in pain, very weak, nauseated, disoriented and besides that, he left so fast that he didn't even take his release papers. I don't know what he's suppose to eat or what medications he is suppose to…

On 5-FU pump and getting CT today
Has anyone else had a CT while hooked up to their chemo pump? My oncologist and the nurse practiioner both reassured me that it isn't an issue. Bummer is I have a Power Port so it can tolerate the contrast so that I shouldn't need an IV started for scans. BUT - I'm hooked up to the chemo so the port is being used. The onc…

I GOT IT FOLFOX # 4 anyway
Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha! Just a quick note as this round hit me hard again. Platelets bounced up to 97 and onc said ok, let's do it. Was told to watch for nose bleeds again. Seems it's my body's signal to let me know. Love the way the body works ... when it's working right. Told that if they drop again they will most likely drop…

Since we live in North Carolina now, this was very big news today. Elizabeth Edwards, the estranged wife of former Presidential candidate John Edwards, is at home resting with family around her. She has been told by doctors that her cancer (breast) will take her life within a few weeks. I just pray she will have one more…

Onc Visit and Scan Results for Sundance
Lovekitties had asked about my onc visit the other day – I’m up a little today, so thought I would update you all with this post. It’s “official” – the mass in the LEFT lung is gone now. I saw the scan itself and read the report and went over it with the onc, as well. We’ll be watching it of course, but this was a bit of…

Maintenance or no maintenance?
Hi Everyone, Have all of you had a conversation with your oncologist about whether or not maintenance chemo was suggested for you? Is this only for stage 4 patients? Is it only for patients who have had a reoccurance? Who are NED? I think that from reading everything oncologists are all over the place on this. Please chime…

Should I be annoyed
....or should I just let it go. I'm stage 3, 10/11 lymph nodes infected (diagnosed in feb 09), in remission for now (touch wood my forehead). Found out today through my surgeons notes that I had not just the colon cancer but I had a small well differentiated carcinoid in the appendix. I was not told about the latter,…

The kindness of a stranger at Christmastime
Hello everyone, I thought that I'd share a nice story of what happened to me today. Kathy (khl8) posted a couple of weeks ago about decorating for Christmas, so I decided right then an there that I'd put up a tree for Christmas so that Rick could have something nice to look at all day besides the TV. So, I hopped in the…

I'm back - PET results and more chemo
I got back from Mexico Wednesday night and went to the oncologist Thursday AM. While my CT didn't show anything at all, the PET showed the 3 nodes had shrunk a lot, and the metabolic activity had slowed, but the cancer is not completely gone. The report says it shows current treatment is working well. The "cyst" that the…

2 years ago today I was diagnosed, what a crazy ride it has been
Two years ago tonight my best friend drove me to the ER and I heard those awful words everyone dreads. I am happy to say every 3 month checkup I have had has come back clean. I know how very lucky I am, I have seen up close what colon cancer can do when things are not going your way. I know that not every year will go this…
