Chemo, fatigue, and work
Just curious how people handle working while on chemo. Being a realtor I have a flexible schedule and can juggle it, even though fatigue does come into play. It's important clients don't lose faith in my abilities so most don't know about my cancer, and those that do -- I do my best to act like nothing is wrong, or at…

My Brother Blake AKA Buckwirth
This is Drummond, Blake's brother, writing from Afghanistan. After hearing that someone from here was trying to contact my brother by phone, via an email to my sister, Blake's wife Kathy asked that I do a post here regarding his current condition, with the idea that she will read the messages to him. ***The best way to…

CT scan is enough but an extra worry of Biphasic Anaphylaxis
Last time I had a CT scan I had a mild reaction to the contrast dye, and was given an IV of Benydryl and kept for observation. My symptoms were itching with a mild rash. Not a big deal. However, the NEXT day in the late afternoon I had a huge reaction---my throat/tongue swelled up, BP plummeted and I became cold and…

Odd reaction to GOLFA
Hi All, Last week I had my first chemo with a new combination: Gemzar, FOLFOX plus Avastin (GOLF-A). I have been on FOLFOX many times before -- with and without Avastin. The dosage of oxaliplatin that I'm on at the moment is pretty low. This was my first time on the Gemzar. From what I have heard, most people do not have…

Port flushed but wont draw-next step
Has anyone had this occur? When I recently had surgery the nurses tried to draw from my port and couldn't. They used alspaste (sp?) to try and get it unclogged. Will the next step be a replacement? It is the Dignity model? Any help or experiences shared appreciated. Barb

Waiting on a CT scan...
I'm basically seeing 2 oncologists, the primary one where I get my chemo, and the other is in a large university cancer center an hour away. The 2nd one is my "hopeful" oncologist, and I'm receiving the protocol she recommended -- folfiri and vectibix. Anyway, I went to see her on Monday this week with my shiny new lab…

Traveling Following FOLFOX
I need an opinion from those of you who have been on FOLFOX(Leucovorin, 5FU, and oxyplatin). My husband is going to start with this regimen on May 1 and I want to schedule a family vacation which requires flying on May 5th. He has to take the bag home for 48 hours following the drip? Is it doable? What do you think? Blow…

a little humor...
I was heading into the hospital for chemo last Wednesday, and in this part of the hospital the elevator only goes down a floor, or up to the 2nd floor, where there the cancer center is. So, I hop on the elevator with all the excitement of a kid with a plate full of cooked spinach in front of him. There were 3 people on the…

After lots of ups and downs, 3 years on weekly chemo while working full time, a successful colon resection, an unsuccesful liver resection, 3 blood clots, a bowel obstruction, and a nasty blood infection, my husband has been told that the cancer has moved to a lymph node outside the liver. A liver resection, SIR Spheres,…
