trying to make decissions in the last moments.
My grandmother has been battling cancer for quite some time, right now she is in her final moments. She is on oxygen and keeps taking it off, if we leave it off she asks for it back, like she panics. She is unresponsive, and is sleeping all day. My family and I are looking for support on what we can do to help make her…

Something to Smile About
This isn't a big thing to most people but it made me feel so good to see my daffodils popping up out of the ground today. In a few weeks we'll have flowers. On top of that I had a whole flock of very fat Robins in my backyard this week. Spring is on the way. I would kill for a day in the 70's. All you snowbunnies up north…

UPDATE SKIPPER: Thank You All
Thank you everyone for your thoughts, prayers and donations to Pawing It Forward. I can't tell you how comforting they all are. So many here have lost husbands recently and some have loved ones that are now in hospice care. My heart goes out to them and to all their caregivers and families. It's a rough time for so many -…

when their will is lost
This is my first post to the caregivers section - my mother (early 70's) has been battling an aggressive uterine cancer (discovered at stage 3C in 2009). Despite the most aggressive treatment (surgery, chemo, radiation), this past summer it had spread to her lungs and liver. Different chemos have done nothing to slow the…

Crying all Day..Depressed
I don't come here often. usually I post on the Ovarian cancer board as my mother has been fighting that beast for 18 months and I go there for hope and information and numerous techniques for dealing with the chemo and side effects. This week was a real turning point in her treatment. In November the cancer went to her…

I Lost My Husband Today
The battle is over and the beast thinks it won. No way. It took my husband's body today but it will never take his spirit or mine. Paul crossed over late this afternoon peacefully at the hospice center. His decline was so rapid it seemed like it was in the blink of an eye. We had such a great Christmas. A good memory. His…

Daughter 46 has advanced colon cancer
I yoyo between hope and despair, according to her newest scan results. Her husband does all medical appointments, and I help with the 11 yr. old when help is needed, which isn't often. She is on her third different chemo drug; she is so brave, always going into work when she can. We do talk, but not enough for me. She is…

It's 5:00 a.m. - Help!
Can't sleep - today is husband's celebration of life. It was supposed to be a very small event now and a larger one for extended family in the spring- NOT. Now we have over 20 people and 7 kids. We're going to have snow/sleet (it's not supposed to snow here). My stomach's a mess and my nerves are shot. I just want it to be…

my 64 year old widowed mom was diagnosed on 9/22/10 with two GBM's IV. resecting was not an option... so we went to Duke and got involved with a clinical trial. We use to live 3 hours apart. It would take months for her to plan a trip to DE where I live to see my three kids. she worked 40hrs as a medical office manager,…

Taking a break
I just need to take a break for awhile. My mother's illness has consumed everything I am or have. I need to take a break from all things related to cancer.

My Beloved
I lost my soul mate today. He passed relatively quickly and was not in pain, which was an answer to prayer. I asked God to take him quickly if there was no hope of a liver transplant. Right now I'm in a state of shock. Even though we knew this was a probable outcome, I never thought I'd find myself 500 miles from home,…

High Tide, Low Tide, Slack Tide
Friday started out bad. He was still throwing up, still in a lot of pain, so I called hospice and they had the doctor stop by. The doc changed his meds around (stronger pain and anti-nausea), and the home health aide came Friday. He started cleaning with out me asking - I'm in love :) Saturday ended up ok. His friends came…

Getting Affairs in order......
Something we do not like to talk about....although, mom did and told us her wishes etc., but she changed so quickly that she was not able to sign the will herself. Since my stepdad brother and myself all agreed to what she wanted, we set the wheels in motion. It is still a huge inconvience, do all you can ahead of time.…

Life is fair???
My wife has been fighting NET for almost 3 years now. Her car blew up, she is having surgery on her eye for rentnal opathy or how ever you spell it (at least I don't have to worry about her seeing to drive), and now her Dad has DZ with liver cancer. I wonder why she's been down in the dumps? I am praying that my mom in law…

A Note from Pat
We were talking this evening, and Pat wrote me an explanation of what he was feeling: "I would love one day where my neck didn't hurt have a normal appetite. Not tired. No aches and pains. And just a fun day with you. I'm so stressed so as you. I don't want to die and leave you you're my life. I'm going to fight the best I…

Experience with young teens and PTSD?
My 13-year-old son seemed to take his father's cancer treatments the best of all of us, but now I'm starting to wonder. He's playing more (and more violent) video games lately and really immersing himself in watching shows (like working his way through years of Dr. Who). He's also cranky and uncooperative a lot of the…

Time to change the photo
I thought it was time to update my picture to reflect reality - Doug's picture of us just after he won the championship is still the one he uses to post (on the H&N board). There's a good bit of weight change - he lost 35 lbs and I gained about 5. He is winning the race - he was trying to get from 140 to 155 before I could…

Separation Anxiety
I put this off for a few days, as I felt so many others had much more important issues: Doug went back to work full-time last week and I went back a bit before that. That went OK, but then he needed to travel for the job. The doctor OK'd it as long as the flights were not long (he had blood clots from the chemo and is…

A Prayer for the Dying
Father God, Give me the strength to help my husband face death with serenity and grace. Give us the peace we need to make the most of our time together. And give us Your love in abundance. Remind him I am with him to the end. Amen.

Good news, bad news, good news, bad news AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
So we have decided to up our wedding. Cancer has taught us that we will have limited time together. It is not a question of if it is a question of when per his doctors. They feel they will get him into remission in time but that with his conditions he will get it again and again until the treatments stop working. My reply…

Getting our life back
We found out a little over a month ago that my husband (32 y/o) has brain cancer. They found a brain tumor in late October, did surgery early November and discovered the cancer early December. This is all new to us. And considering the time line have not had much time to cope or deal with what is actually going on. Not…
