? For Martha and others - Long term side effects of 5FU and Mitomycin
A question for some of you who have been on the board awhile, I'm wondering what to keep an eye out for long term and seem to remember having a conversation regarding kidney or liver problems with no symptoms. Any info will be appreciated. Just want to make sure that my follow up care is all it should be. Thanks to…

Getting My Port Out Next Week!
Can't wait! This thing has been bothering me ever since it went in back in November. My doctor said that since I had a good DRE and that I understand that it might have to be put back in if the cancer comes back, I can have it out. Next Friday! Yay! How are all of you doing? I lost 30 pounds during my treatment and from…

Diarrhea
So three months after treatments ended I still get diarrhea every once in a while. Lately its been a bit more frequent. Its not the kind like I had during treatment where I had accidents and couldn't make it to the bathroom but it's the kind where my stomach makes all kinds of noises and then I am stuck on the john for 20…

Scared to death to have sex
I'm able to use the medium dilator daily, but still scared to have sex. My husband has been very patient and proud he is medically a large (me not so much). I'm not sure if I'll ever be ready. Have been out of treatment since the end of August. Anyone else have this issue? Is it just in my head?

Today I met with my colorectal surgeon for my 3 month exam. During our conversation he held up four fingers and said that in the past two weeks he diagnosed four new cases of anal cancer...all in women. Pretty scary, huh? All are early stage. I know I have a ways to go but feeling like I can actually do this. I was getting a little depressed but I actually feel it was the effects of the chemo.…

I completed my treatment today! 28 days of radiation and 10 days of chemo. I counted my medical appointments and in the past 66 days I've been to 71 appointments! And if you take off weekends and holidays, the average is 1.5 every week day. Wow! I am quite exhausted with oozing burns, nausea and mouth sores so I don't…

Those of us treated at MD Anderson receive newsletters, etc. I just received the latest Network newsletter. To my astonishment, a profile of an anal cancer patient was hightlighted! I was so surprised and appreciative. Ebba Dunn is a organist at Trintity Episcopal Church in Alabama. She traveled to MD Anderson and was…
