Hi SueRelays - Joanne - Martha - Lizdeli, Phoebesnow, Z and the Rest of the Crew...
You know, I've gotten to know quite a few of you - both here and on the colorectal board...and as such, I feel a kindred spirit with you folks:) I don't look at our cancers - I peel back the layer underneath so that I can see the person that's inside, because that's the core of what we all really are...this is where you…

Finally a surgeon
Ok, I finally got an appointment with a surgeon. He's not a color-rectal surgeon, per se, but he specializes in hemmarhoid surgery, so SURELY he'll know what he's looking at. I go the 17th. I think I'm only going to get peace of mind, but it's worth it to know I'm ok, right?

Another DRE!
So apparently the receptionist at my doctor booked me for an appointment yesterday that was supposed to be next month. I saw the doctor in February and had a DRE and thought I was supposed to go today but it was next month. Anyway he gave me another DRE and said things looked good. He did say that I had a "couple" of…

Pet/Ct scans
The stage of my anal cancer was T2 without any lymph node involvement or mets. NCCN guidelines does not indicate a Pet or Ct scan for anal cancer in remission. I am not sure my insurance company will pay for a PET/CT scan in view of the NCCN guidelines, so I am not sure I should go ahead and have one. What has been your…

Martha, questions please

reflux
Hi, I have felt "lumpy" in my chest when I swallow or eat for years and it is getting worse. I know I have asthma reflux from the endoscopy that was done ten years ago. I am going back for another one soon and of course am really trying not to "go there" to the cancer thing. My neighbor died of esophogeal cancer and my…

Asked my doctor about any special diet I need to follow and he ran out of the room and came back with a paper on diet supplements for me. Said I was to start now before treatment. (treatment should begin in a few more weeks I think). I am to consume 6 carnation instant breakfasts a day plus take 15g of L-glutamine twice…

Sympathetic Pain?
Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else. I'm about three weeks status post my last surgery, and all of a sudden this morning I developed a horrific spasm in my lower back, in the area of the lumbosacral junction. Since I just happened to have an appt with my primary MD today I told him about it, and he thinks it…

This time last year
This time last year I started chemo and radiation treatments. Wow! What a difference a year makes! I'm 10 months post treatment and so far NED is still my friend. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I had a sore right hip for a little over a month, but it's better now. It improved not too long after DRE and scope so maybe that…

2 years clear
Hi, everyone. I have not posted in a while. My insurance changed and I was not able to afford my 4-month scans since last June 2011. Luckily, I was able to access the cancer clinic at the VA hospital (I am a Veteran), and finally as of last week was able to get a CAT Scan. Today, I got my results... Thank God I am still…

1 year in remission ~ think I'm having symptoms again, please respond!
Hi; in late 2009, I started noticing "changes" ~ namely in bowel habits & feeling extremely tired. No "home remedies" helped; went to local doctors & was misdiagnoised. Four months later, went to a hospital an hour 1/2 away & was diagnoised with anal cancer. I got chemo & radiation & this Feb I've been a year in…

Hi - Recently diagnosed (Feb 28) with squamous cell anal cancer after months of being treated for hemorrhoids. (I also had salivary gland cancer in '93 - treated w/ surgery & radiation.) Can somebody translate this please?
I'm a little embarrassed to be asking this, as I used to be a medical transcriptionist. But I mostly worked in a family practice and neurology setting, so I am not up on my CA terminology. From my chart: -- begin quote -- DIAGNOSIS: Anal canal, cytology preparation: - High-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL/AIN…

Port incision problems
I had my first port put in and had issues with bleeding from the incision site. Had to have that port removed and replaced with a new one in which the surgeon had no idea where the bleeding was coming from. The new port immediately felt better than the firstt one. Yucky Mucus thing??
So...I'm just over a year out from Treatment for AC Stage3. Shortly after healing from radiation burns I noticed an almost constant damp drainage from the vaginal area (I think) and so always wear a pad. I also have that occasional mucus drainage that I believe we refer to as "whale snot". Its funny, this is probably…
