Off my very first mammogram: "Okay, you turned 40, go in just to get a baseline mammogram."
Since then, my doctors have all learned not to use the word "baseline" with me -- they get whacked if they do!
Traci
Yeah Traci i hear ya no baseline here either. I just Look at them when they tell me what people usually do. because I dont "usually" do anything. I was 34 the first time, 35 the second, and 49 the third. Praying there is no 4th!0 -

I also hear a number of people who get diagnosed around 50 that must be a hormonal shifting time. I also got diagnosed around pregnancy, while breast feeding, so for me it is hormonal fluctuations I think.0 -

In October of last year. I had a lumpectomy on December 7th (a day that will live in infamy -Pearl Harbor Day) which was two days before my 56th birthday.
We asked this before, in January, I think. We then averaged out the ages. It was shocking to see how many were diagnosed before they were 'at the age' for the first mammo.

Hi
I had my 1st mammogram more than 13 years ago. It was the most horrible/painful test. It
left me black and blue. From that day I said I would never have another one and would
take my chances. So after we moved to Texas in May 2008 I had to get a Dr just because
of other issues (diabetes). At that time I decided for the Dr to give me an examine. She said everything felt ok but go get a mammogram. Well you know what I did with that piece
of paper when I got home - trash can!!! No way was I going and besides she didn't feel
anything. This was July 2008. Well in March I felt a knot in my right breast, so I went to
the dr and she said felt like a cyst but go get mammogram and I said YES MAM. So I went
and discovered a 2cm mass. By the time I had both breast removed the tumor had grown to
5cm in about 4 weeks. I have a very rare breast cancer that chemo and radiation has no
effect and a subtype triple negative bc. I did take 6 treatments of chemo and as of Feb 1st
I'm cancer free.
God bless you,

How old were you.
I am 52 diagnosed 4/26/2010.Agree about the hormonal aspect of this.. Went every year because of mom for a mammo. Never missed from 40 on. This year wasn't going to go. Didn't feel anything, just didn't feel like getting my large breasts mashed again. I had a bone spur in my foot and saw a family doc and he said have you had your mammogram? I am saying to myself why is is he asking this? But said no took the script went home. Threw it on the counter saying not this year.. Well a voice in my head said why no this year? Everything fell into place and now I am here on this site with you all.. Waiting in limbo for BRACA then a new decision about treatment..Or not!! YAY. It was mean't to be..
