Shoot me now...PLEASE
So I finished up with my 5th round of chemo last week, had severe joint pain and developed a cold on top of everything else. I've been as sick as I've ever been, feel like my lungs are on fire and haven't slept but a few hours since Saturday. I have not had a fever but I called my onc nurse today anyway and after…

Deception at Duke
I had heard about this a long time ago, but thought I would post the "60 Minutes" segment (link) here just in case anyone was not aware of this. This is a transcript. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-18560_162-57376073/deception-at-duke/ Not only was Dr. Potti's research fraudulent, he claimed (falsely) to be a Rhodes scholar.…

Spices & Herbs
I purchase many of my spices and herbs at local stores such as Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. Wondering if anyone has a few on-line sites they're using for these items? Surely purchasing in bulk is a bit more cost-effective. One site I've been using is iHerb.com, but lately turmeric has been out-of-stock, with no date of…

Uterine MMMT: Does Your Oncologist Use CA125 test?
My oncologist NEVER mentioned CA125 test in a year of treatment. I did check my blood tests and only occasionally was CA125 tested; it was always less than 15. Are those of you with uterine carcinosarcoma being asked to get tested for this marker every three months? I thought it was not very reliable for this form of…

Post Treatment Meds
I had my first round of chemo (taxol/carbo) this past Wednesday. Reading through posts everyone speaks of meds they take after their treatments. The chemo nurse referred to my meds and I told her I wasn't given anything. Reading through the posts and some responses to some of my questions, the "make sure you take your…

Supplements
A gal in my therapy group who's a stage 3 breast cancer patient sees an integrative doc, plus very much into complementary approaches such as herbs, vit C infusions, etc. Judy mentioned a good book to read per her research and her integrative doc recommendation, so I picked it up at my library. Definitive Guide to Cancer,…

books on anti-cancer diet
I've been following the Anti-Cancer book by David Servan-Schreiber for over a year now. Just ordered from amazon Foods to fight cancer by Richard Beliveau The Plant Programme by Jane Plant (mainly breast, prostate cancer directed but could be good for us too) because I felt the need to extend my knowledge about diet (the…

LEG PAINS-TAXOL
Can someone elaborate on what type of leg pains these are? I am very concerned because I have suffered from leg cramps for years. When I say leg cramps I am not referring to your run of the mill, point your toe to your nose calf cramp. My cramps are almost undescribable. They start on the side of my foot or in various…

Insurance issues/UPSC
Not me. Very good friend is a 5-year UPSC, Stage 2 survivor. She had both chemo and radiation. Now, at 5 years her insurance company says no more gyn oncologist, you can go back to regular gyn for exams and see the local general oncologist here on out. She has mixed feelings about this and will discuss it with her gyn next…

Finished 1st round of Chemo
Had my first round of chemo yesterday. Long day...arrived at 830am and didn't get home until 430pm. The entire process, although lengthy, was uneventful. Started out with Benadry, Pepcid, Steroid, Anti-nausea medicine. Next was 3 hour infusion of Taxol followed by 1 hour infusion of Carboplatin. Like I said, all went well…

My mom's 4B care crossroads - Complimentary therapy recommendations needed
Hi all, My mom is 73, with stage 4B UC. She's had a full hysterectomy, then five sessions of Taxol/Carboplatin, and now because they've full a 4c mass in her abdomen area near her omentum, they are recommending more chemo. Will start third round of chemo
Went to the doctor today and he recommends that I start chemo again. My CA 125 is 2700, the highest it has ever been. My CAT scan showed 5 enlarged lymph nodes, three in the neck area and 2 in the abdomen. So I will start chemo February 9th. It will be Taxol and Cisplatin every three weeks. Since both drugs need to be…

Does your Onc Use CA125 as MMMT Marker?
Am a bit baffled. For nearly a year, my onc has said nothing to me about CA125. I always checked my blood test results and it looked as if they didn't always test for it. When they did (4-5 times), it was always less than 15. Since finishing all treatment in late August, NOBODY at my center has kept an eye on my blood…

Dental care before starting treatments
This topic came up recently. Anyone with UPSC 1A have chemo but NOT radiation? Or only external radiation?
I'm coming up to a crossroads and wanted to hear from my UPSC sisters. I was diagnosed IA in October after a robotic hysterectomy. Had de-bulking/staging surgery in November - 22 lymph nodes, omentum, tubes, ovaries, cervix, vaginal cuff, washings all were negative. Yeeeha! One gyn/onc told me I'd need nothing but…

Whine time for me :(
Just got my PET/CT report from early this week (which, btw, my gyn-onc was not inclined to order as I was asymptomatic, but I insisted). Up until now all recurrences have been in lymph nodes only. Today's report shows a lesion in my liver and multiple nodules in lungs, some new enlarged lymph nodes, other nodes reduced in…

Chemo choices... opinions?
My gyn/onc told me there are 2 choices for my chemotherapy and he gave me his opinions for each therapy were. I wonder if there are similar opinions from your experiences? Either therapy requires a port which I am having put in tomorrow. (I'm a little freaked out about this but am reassured that it will not be too bad.)…

Resolving Insulin Resistance and Reducing Cancer Risk
Insulin resistance is a precursor to type II diabetes. It is a result of a diet high in sugars and carbohydrates.
