Willing to try
Starting alternative treatments Thursday. Conventional medicine doesn't make as much sense to me at this time, they're treatment options are , put alot of poison in your body. I don't know if my route will work, as I have a very aggressive gleason 9. Wish me luck!

Good oncologist near Chicago for targeted Hormone Therapy?
Is anyone aware of a good oncologist with a focus on the various hormone therapies and combinations thereof, within driving distance from Chicago? I find Dr. Charles Myers' work hopeful and wondering if there is someone in the Midwest with that type of knowledge. (Father is 83, G4+4, PSA 56 on finesteride and several bone…

Dietary question regarding prostate problems
I have been researching and reading everything regarding prostate problems while I am waiting for a second PSA test. Does anyone here find it to be truthful about the red meat and dairy consumption contributing to an increase to potentially developing prostate cancer? The reason I ask is that my diet primarily consists of…

Too young
I can't help but notice, I'm the youngest on here by far. Can't help but think if I was 70-80 this would be alot easier. I'm only 39 years old, just found out what a prostate was, a couple months ago.

Big pharma
Just recently being diagnosed with very aggressive pca at age 39, I've been absorbing as much info as possible so I can make the best decisions I can. So far I've realized there is no money in the cure, money is in treatments, that make you sicker, ruin your quality of life and even cause more cancer. Anyone that thinks…

A new study . . .
A new 10 year study conducted in England reports that 99% of the men who were randomly assigned surgery, radiation and active survellience in order to "treat" their early stage prostate cancer survived a mediam (not average) of 10 years beyond diagnosis. Surgical Castration

The worst part is that I may have a tendency to gain weight (Lupron tends to cause people to gain weight too.) If anyone has had surgical castration please write about you side effects. I am scheduled for surgery in early…

10 days after surgery - margins involved by tumor
I had laparoscopic sugery for pc 10 days ago and was hoping to come away with a clean final pathology report. I'm 56 years old and frightened for my future. I've been healthy my entire life with the only surgery being at age 18 for an appendectomy. About 6 months ago, during a routine blood test, my PSA was 4.2. My family…

Newbie - high PSA
Recently I had dificulties urinating and went to see an urologist. The doc took urine and blood samples and measured prostate volume (by DRE). Results: prostate volume 5.1; Urinalysis: some red cells and white cells, but no infection or bacterial culture. PSA = 22 (this is my first-time PSA). Doc put me on Flomax and Cipro…

New to the Cleveland, Ohio area
Hi All, Looks like University Hospital has a new type of Proton beam radiation machine that controls the length of the beam. This should mean less damage to surrounding areas unlike other types of radiation that go completely through the body and hit other organs & tissue. Check it out as a possible resource, according to…

Post prostatectomy IMRT treatments
I had my prostate removed using robotic surgery in May 2010. A slowly rising PSA score of the past year up to the threshold of .20 for a recurrence led me to seek out radiation therapy (IMRT) to destroy some apparently late-developing cancer cells somewhere in the bed of my now-removed prostate. Although the success rate…

HD Brachy + EBRT + ADT Anyone with experience to share?
Our Radiation oncologist says that there is no data to compare HD Brachy+ EBRT + ADT (neo + 2 yrs ) to RP + EBRT. I'm concerned about outcomes and side effects. My husband (age 59) is very high risk. GS 4+5, PSA 28, all cores +, N0, M0 (Ct/bone scan) Maybe RT has very long term effects for younger men? Thank you.

Haven't been here for a while. Six more sessions of savage radiation left. Original plan was 70 Gy in 35 fractions plus 52 Gy to lymph Nodes with 62 Gy to nodes identified by the 68 Gallium PSMA PET/CT. So far, diarrhea two times, a lot of gas and some problems with constipation at other times - constipation lessens up…

1.5T vs 3 T mp-MRI rationale
Both places, A and B, have had 3T MRI machines. The first urologist I went to in A uses a 1.5T MRI. Now I am finding prostate patients can't get the 3T mp-MRI at location B either. What gives? I am scheduled this week for.... the 1.5T, and not totally happy about it. Talking with a tech in passing, he thought all prostate…
