I am a 64 year old man and on Nov. 26, 2001, after being informed that a routine gastroscopy and biopsy of Barrett's changes in my lower esophagus had revealed adenocarcinoma of the esophagus at the esophageal-gastric junction, I was admitted to USC University Hospital (after a bunch of tests including coeliac angiography,…

Fear of recurrence
Surprised to find a few patients with tonsil cancer on this site. I am 49, female, never smoke or drink. I lead a very healthy life as I am a school teacher so I was extremely shocked when knowing that I had stage 4 tonsil cancer in 9/2001. Thank God after the most inhumane battle of radiation and chemotherapy, I am back…

My Esophageal Cancer
On October 30th of this year I was diagnosed with Stage I esophageal cancer and am receiving radiation five days a week and chemo one day a week. The prognosis is very good; in fact, I think the tumor, which is in the center of my esophagus, is just about all shrunken now, but I'm having a side effect in the form of chest…

"TPF" chemo on advanced throat cancer???
My father was recently diagnosed with a stage IV squamous cell tumor which originated in the larynx. The oncologist's recommended treatment was to start with 3 sessions of "TPF" (T=Taxotere, P=Platinum, F=FU5) chemo followed by double dose radiation and finally salvage surgery if any of the cancer persisted. The doctor…

SURVIVOR & EXERCISE
April 2003 will mark two years post treatment for me and I remain cancer free. I'd like to talk to anyone who's had successful treatments for throat cancer and still exercises. I'm terrified when I get short of breath and I'm also afraid that I will not recuperate from pain; that I will end up back in bed instead of…

Symptom question
For a couple of months now, I've had a kind of ache in the chest that is sometimes accompanied by a burning in the throat. This sometimes last all day, and is not necessarily after eating something I'd expect to cause heartburn. I'm already taking Protonix, a proton pump inhibitor, for a possible stomach ulcer. Could the…

I completed radiation and chemo treatment the end of Jan. My doctor says I should try to eat. I have been trying, but unless it is very liquid I have a lot of trouble getting it down. I am still having some pain in my throat. Could that be the reason? I tend to think it is because I have no saliva. Will I get better? Is…
