surgery cancelled
I don't know if it is good or bad, but frankly; I am relieved. My surgery was cancelled. The PET scan, finally got the results today (delayed results because of hurricane Rita evacuation). The PET scan shows positive lymph nodes up the entire hilar region on the right side, meaning the only effective surgery would be an…

CT/PET Scan
Hi Friends, On Wednesday I met with my oncologist for a follow up appointment. It's been two years since my diagnosis of Stage 3 colon cancer. I received a colon resection followed with the Folfox regimen. My original CT scan showed three small spots on my lung. The largest of the three was biopsied and found to be a…

Please give yourselves a hug from me. :) My onc and I have decided to start with CPT-11 & Erbitux this weekend. Then, if no scary reactions, we will add avastin in 2 wks. He told me if I say to go…

My mom
Well my mom did her 2nd treatment of Folfiri and she has had a lot of diarrhea. Her blood counts are low even with the procrit and neulasta shot. She is being admitted into the hospital for a blood transfusion and to regain strength so she can continue chemo next week. Any advice or similiar experience. Could this be a…

Stage IV survivor w/inoperable cancer polyps?
Hi, my brother has just had surgery and the doctor has found that the cancer has gotten to his fatty tissues and his small intestines, some of which could not be removed. Through reading the site, I've found that some survivors have had their tumors shrunken after going through chemo. May I ask if others have been in my…

Emotional battle during treatment
In looking back on my experience with cancer, I often think about the many emotional issues I dealt with, issues that were separate from my day-to-day struggle with the cancer itself. And, I wonder what I would want to change if I had to go through it all over again. I believe that most of us going through cancer treatment…

re ozzie doctor;
Has anybody heard of John Holt, who has been using a different type of cancer treatment, involving radiowaves and eschewing chemotherapy. A colleague of his has set up a practice here in dublin, and I would love to hear if anybody ahs info about this, or know anybody who has gone for this type of treatment.

Splenda
What do you think about Splenda as a sugar alternative. Most of the research I have found indicates that it is a "safe" alternative. I say "safe" in that it should still be used sparingly.

Xeloda versus 5FU
I have a question for anyone who has experience with both oral 5FU and infusion 5FU. Although my scans recently came back clean (I was diagnosed stage 4 in May of this year), my oncologist still wants for me to complete my chemo cycles (I have five left and I dread every one of them). But the side effects get more intense…

Opinions, please
It is approaching the one year anniversary of my diagnosis. With that comes time to do the colonoscopy. We are in a new town which is small enough that your GP does everything from the delivery of your babies to seeing you for the common cold. Today, I saw the GP for my annual woman wellness exam and while I was there…

Grateful
"Theoretically, you are supposed to be dead." That's what my oncologist pointed out to me yesterday. Thankfully, I am far, far from dead. I completed a 60 km walk over two days a couple of weeks ago to raise money for cancer in memory of a dear friend we lost last year to the beast. I started graduate school last week. I…

DAD IS NED!
Well after having a little scare this past week with my dad's scans, it has turned out the little "spot" on his lung is truly nothing. In fact, the radiology report didn't even mention anything about it. My dearest dad is now 8 months post chemo and almost 1 1/2 years post surgery for stage 3 colon ca, and thankfully and…

to littlejulie
I know your mom is getting a mri today and i just wanted to let you know she is in my prayers. Again, when my dad was first diagnosed he had to have a mri too as a result of them finding a spot on his liver, but again, it was just that - a hemangioma. Good luck and let us know as soon as you find out. Susana

Ladies and Gentlemen: Just wanted to let you know that I DID complete my final treatment of FOLFOX w/Avastin this week, in spite of having a nasty headache and sinus infection that got carried away due to low white count. I don't feel the greatest right now, but it's OVER!! Please remember me next week when I have my CT…
