Three years
Three years ago, I faced a nearly totally obstructive colon tumor and I did not know if I would live a day, a month or a year. After surgery and a not too happy course of chemo, I have managed to make it through my three year CT and blood tests with no evidence of cancer. There have been side-effects and challenges, some…

Autoimmune?
Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but as a cancer survivor, am I still considered to have a suppressed immune system? I'm 15 years NED. Thanks,

Scan Not Great, May Try Folfox again, neuropathy tips?
The tumors in my lungs are having a field day. This includes one that is close to (if not actually started to) affect my airway. Yippee. I may be able to have radiation, but it is not clear cut based on the location and potential damage. The chemo options left would, at best, stop growth for a bit. The FOLFORI is…

A message from SandiaBuddy
I am posting a message from Sandia, as he is having trouble doing so. This is my 2nd attempt, so something is not right. I have composed several posts and lost them (blocked???) when I tried to post. In case others have this problem, it might be worthwhile composing in a word processing program, then cutting and pasting to…

Cancelled Cruise
Well I know that there are worse things... I know that. But... I'm 67 and for our 25th anniversary we booked a mediterranean cruise. We thought we would chance it even though my blood counts are low. I didn't tell my oncologist because I just knew he would advise against it. I'm not currently on chemo but I've had this…

Apt canceled
Got portal notification that my follow up apt with surgeon has been cancelled for next week. Since I have done so well, no issues, I am at low risk so can miss the apt. Its because of this coronavirus. The plastic surgeon wants to keep apt with him but do it via teledoc style.

Tumor marker CA 19-9
Hey guys, I have a question to the tumor marker CA 19-9. Yes during colon cancer they use CEA a lot. But in the case of my dad they use both CEA and CA 19-9. Apparently, they like to test it when mets are present... Does anybody got tested in this one as well? What are your experiences in treatment with it? Does it rise…

No scan, bloodwork only.
Ok, I'm going for my second appointment since my surgery on Friday. I thought I was going to get another CT scan, as when I first starting seeing this oncologist he told me I would get a CT scan every 4 months for the first year. I assumed that they would schedule the scan a few days before the appointment, so that the doc…

Dad has Stage IV colon cancer and MS
Hello guys, My dad, 55, was diagnosed with colon cancer stage IV recently. It was all a huge shock for us. His mom had a malignant polyp removed when she was 53. His grandfather also had colon cancer and was living until the end of his life with a plastic bag. Even with this background we did not expect it. My dad was…

Chemotherapy and MS
Hello my dears, I wanted to write down how my dad is with stage IV colon cancer and multiple sclerosis. Probably 28th of Feb the chemotherapy with FOLFOX will start. He will get every 2 weeks 48hours of infusion. After 2 months they will check again. The liver metastases have a diameter around 7 and 14mm. Even though my…

SBRT Side Effects?
Hello, I've been through my three SBRT treatments for a metastisis in the upper left lobe of my lung and definitely am feeling the fatigue. Does anyone else have experience with this? Know how long it lasts? What the window is for it to get worse or other side effects to appear? I've read online it can last months and that…

Cannabis Oil
Since being diagnosed with a recurrence in my lungs and a failed surgery due to additional spread I have been using cannabis oil and chemo. This topic has been explored, discussed and debated on this board and others. I think there may be something to it. I've started a facebook group to explore this in a private setting…

End of OXA
With three FOLFOX treatments left, tonight was the last Oxaliplatin I'll receive (hopefully, unless one bugger returns). I told my doc I didn't want to have it anymore and she agreed (various reasons, persistent numbess even though not very debilitating and the years of life I have left, a lot!) I make my living by typing…

A life expectancy is given by MD Anderson
The MD Anderson fave me a life expectancy because I asked for that. It doesn't look nice. A story of a relatively young healthy adult who had 3 colonoscopies with 2 different docs and a scan that missed the first liver met over a year prior to diagnoses. Sure, they are not God and when mire information arrives tgey can…

Microsatellite Instability in Colorectal Cancer
My husband (Stage II) was found to have Microsatellite Instability, a genetic defect. Colon cancer patients with Microsatellite Instability have a slightly better prognosis than colorectal tumors without MSI and do not have the same response to chemotherapeutics. This is relatively new information and means that genetic…

Erbutix rash
My erbutix rash was so bad that I couldn't sleep at all. I put cream on but that didn't help. Then I just took the hottest shower I could and after about 20 minutes the pain went away. Anyone else use hot water to stop rash pain?

There's always something new around the corner
There's always something new around the corner. I post this not as a current, valid alternative to chemo, but to give us all hope that there is something new around the corner: Electrochemotherapy is a promising anti-cancer approach that potentiates the cytotoxic effect of drugs by application of external electric field…

cat scan or pet scan
A good friend of mine was recently diagnosed. The doctor is recommending a CT scan and not a pet scan. I am an eight year survivor of stage 4 anal cancer. Is it normal for a CT scan instead of a pet scan to stage her? I had a pet scan. What is the normal protocol? She doesn't have a clue what questions to ask. I want to be…

Well, Made It 5 Years. Hopefully Another Treatment Crops Up- Keep On Moving
It is 5 years since I was released from the hospital since my first surgery. Then had chemo. Then a lung met. Then another surgery. Then it came back again. Failed Immunotherapy trial. Then radiation and chemo. Chemo stopped working. Did not qualify for another trial. No real chemo options of value - will go on one well I…

The shrink backed off......
I did start to look for a therapist about a year ago. I had 2 very dissapointing encounters with 2 guys. My oncologist told me that we don t have anyone in the area who specifically trained to work with people who have cancer. I found the 3rd one who seems ok. It happened after I returned from MD Anderson with a clear case…
