Can anyone tell me about tumors causing fever? My mum had to be taken to the hospital last night because of a high fever 102.7 to be exact. She was given tylenol which brought her temperature down. Blood work came back and all negative. Chest x-ray was negative also. However, this is the second time she had a spike in…

a teacher who is feeling blue
I am feeling a little blue these days . . . . I am an elementary teacher and it is hard to see kids getting ready to head back to school and talk to other teachers who are in their classrooms getting things ready for the year. I love teaching - the kids, the families, the laughs everyday, the challenges - I love it all.…

Some things we can all agree on
Please excuse me for stepping in this mess. Is that your dog??? LOL We all have a dog in this fight so naturally we all want to have a say in the outcome. With all the "arguing" that follows an "informative" post sometimes there is a tendancy to sepperate into our groups and settle down into quiet discontent for awhile. I…

chemo brain?
I'm on my second treatment now. Should chemo brain be setting in already? I've been on my computer for about a half an hour all the while wondering what that bubbling sound is. I had forgotten that I put soup on the stove. My nausea seems to be better this time. Hooray! Also my water is tolerable at barely warm. Last time…

newspaper article on vitamin D benefits
I know vitamin D has been discussed here many times, but I came across this article today from the San Diego Union Tribune. Note that the FDA recommended vitamin D levels at the bottom of the article are actually pretty low- most naturopaths recommend quite a higher daily dose, especially to those with cancer or anyone who…

saliva and painful tears?
Is this typical with chemo? Tons of saliva. It's been a week of it since my last (2nd) treatment. And it hurts my eyeballs to cry. Maybe it will help me "buck up" a little :) But I cry easily when I'm feeling grateful or loved or watching a touching commercial. -Biz

Have a great, safe Labor Day Weekend!
I woke up to the smell of coffee; I stretched as my husband walked in with my coffee and morning kiss. A few minutes later, I tiptoed to the atrium room, where my husband was working on my computer. I sat on my wonderful couch and sipped my coffee to the sound of water dripping in my nearby water fountain. Listening to the…

Why can't we agree to disagree?
Just read Emily's post as I had seen it had shot up to 78 new messages. Been coming here as some of you know since I got diagnosed back in 2009, and I know we have arguments about either religion or alternative medicine. This is why I remember once Donna saying to me, when it gets like this on here everyone goes and hangs…

Today I found out lab work...all good…

Has anyone had exploratory laproscopy for high CEA but negative PET scans?
I finished my treatment in May 2010. My PET scans have been clear, but my CEA number keeps climbing. It was 160 ng/ml after my surgery and before I started treatment. It was 3.4 ng/ml (normal) when I stopped treatment and I has slowly creeped back up 3-6 points every blood test...now I am at 45 ng/ml. We think that the…

Insurance
So, I've been walking 3.5 miles a day, eating oatmeal, avoiding fast food, avoiding foods that may have cholesterol, and all around trying to eat and live healthy. Why? Because I thought I needed to pass health tests (BMI-Cholesterol-blood sugar-blood pressure) to qualify for $900 towards my health insurance deductible.…
