Hi everyone, I'm 27 years old and just got my diagnosis yesterday. DCIS. I'm still feeling strong and optimistic today but I suspect that might change soon. I hope it doesn't change!! On Monday they're going to put the port in me, which I'm a little scared about. I don't like needles AT ALL so weirdly it's the shot of…

Repeat Cancer Fears
I had my first mammogram since I finished treatment today. The findings were "Your mammogram shows a finding that we believe is most likely benign" Somehow, that didn't ease my anxiety. At all. I think we all have a fear of it returning or showing up someplace else. There are women dealing with that very dilema on this…

Our definition of Cancer may be wrong. If we change how we define it, everything starts to make sens
I thought it would be an appropriate starting point to use this quote from Mark Twain. “What gets us into trouble is not what we don't know. It's what we know for sure,… that just ain't so.” This sets up the question, ‘what if we made a mistake right out of the gate?’ What if everyone is pursuing an answer that lies in…

Hydrating! So hard!
2nd round of Chemo, currently on Day-5 post-infusion (TAC): i have have NO interest whatsoever in drinking! Liquids feel like mercury: slimy, metallic, not at all refreshing: actively gross, off-putting, offensive. Been trying water-ice, a little lemonade crystal light added to water, it's just awful! My mouth feels wet,…

Chemo and short term fasting
There is research on the benefits of fasting while going through chemo. I would paste links, but can't seem to do it from my iPad. If interested, just google "chemo and fasting". i had my first chemo last week and I fasted for a total of 67 hours. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has tried this. jan

*BOOM!* No more chemo, straight to mastectomy!
Reeling a bit from this news -- after 2 rounds of chemo (which were pretty darn tough, several on my Team of Onc, surgeon, intern, chemo nurses, etc mentioned that i got hit harder than most they'd seen), i was re-imaged with mammogram and ultrasound, to see how well the chemo was taking effect. Based on effectively Zero…

Hi, I just had my expanders taken out and my implants placed. My next step would be nipple and areola reconstruction. I am so unsure of what is the best option. These are the options I have. 1. Do nothing. 2. create by tattooing. 3. Just create nipple from skin already in the breast area. 4. Take skin from the area of my…

Breast changes after treatment
Last year, I had 8 rounds of chemo (AC/T) for my TN IDC, followed by a UM and the path report showed no remaining cancer cells. I then had radiation on that side only. My mammo that led to that diagnosis showed micro calcifications in the other breast, but they couldn't get to them to biopsy so said they'd watch it. I just…

Chemo port not flushed for three years
In 2006 I was diagnosed with breast cancer, Stage II, treated with a rather large lumpectomy, CMF chemotherapy via a Bard port, and attempted radiation that was not completed since the catheter placement was not good, and it had to be removed. It almost fell out. My veins were extremely bad for several years, so because I…

Regaining fitness after cancer treatment
All told, my cancer treatments took about nine months from chemo to surgery to radiation. I spent most of that time in bed, except during the breaks between treatments, because I was always exhausted. Exercise, other than the occasional slow walk around the block or grocery shopping trip, was out of the question. But as…

taxatere after-effects?
More than 6 weeks after my last taxatere treatment, I still have fairly weird "side effects": fairly severe edema in my ankles & up into my calves, very painful muscles, sort of all over (only when I move) and, of course, toe and finger neuropathy -- which is the only symptom I have heard about. I also seem to bruise…

Finally, some relief and comfort!
My mastectomy and sentinel node surgery was on June 14 and I have had that awful 24/7 sensitivity and burning pain sensation since a few days after the surgery. I went from taking no pain medication to starting up again with Aleve, but that did little to relieve the symptoms. Might have taken the edge off slightly, but not…

Swollen oral glands after double mastectomy
My wife had a double mastectomy a few months ago. The surger included the removal of 14 lymph nodes. She received 28 radiation treatments but no chemotherapy. She now suffers from swelling of the tongue, lips, cheek, front of throat (thankfully, not all at the same time). This began shortly after starting arimidex. But…

I am a 18 year survivor I had a mastectomy and I can't remember how many nodes were removed but none were positive. The only area they draw is left and I have blown every single vein. Need a surgery(kidney stones) soon and I dread because of the sticks all over to try to get a good vein in that one available arm. How long…
