Preparing for Surgery
I am currently scheduled for DaVinci XI assisted prostatectomy in July. I'm trying to prepare for surgery and try to set some expectations for post-surgery (eating, clothing, mobility, incontinence, etc.) If anyone is willing to share your experiences it would be greatly beneficial. We are traveling to California for the…

Confused after MRI
I know I am in the early stages of possible PCA diagnosis as my biopsy is scheduled on 4/23. But I am really blindsided by this. I am 52 years old. I have absolutely no symptoms other then noticing some possible ED over the past year. My doctor ordered PSA test in on 2/20 and it came back as 14.97 and another test was…

very high PSA after major peripheral artery disease surgery for legs
Hi, I'm a 75 year old man. A week ago I had major surgery: A femoral endarterectomy for PAD. When I was discharged I was scheduled for my check up with my internist. I mistakenly asked for a PSA test. Since I'd been through so much I believe I should have waited. My PSA came out at 9.00. But on the other hand, I had a lot…

Missing items from RALP Discharge Summary
I thought I would offer these notes and tips that seemed to be missing from my discharge instructions, to those that come after me: + Days 1-3 + + Waking up in the recovery room ……. I awoke without fanfare, flashing lights or sirens. For this I thanked my lucky stars without complaint. Everything else, come what may. + +…

Newbie here and meeting Urologist tomorrow for next steps
Have had BPH issues for years and PSA fluctuating from 4-8. Had a few CT scans over the years and with PSA rising I talked Doc into MRI and have one lesion roughly 1cm x 1cm and PiRads 4. Meeting with my Urologist tomorrow to discuss next steps. Prostate is 130cc. Appreciate any advice or questions I should ask.

Surgery vs Radiation: another question
I am 67, Gleason 7, unfavorable, and PSA 4.2. Both surgeon and oncologist say I am on the borderline age-wise and that either treatment would give good results. I am more concerned about long-term continence than longevity. I am changing my mind ten times a day. Any input appreciated.

MRI with or without contrast
Hi, I am already one year in active surveillance but I have decide to treat this year with focal therapy. Before starting the treatment, I had an MRI done yesterday but it was without contrast. Should I request another one with contrast before starting a treatment? Thanks, Fred

PSA after surgery interesting
From John Hopkins Study Explores AccuPSA Test During one study, Dr. Partin and his colleagues examined blood samples from 31 patients whose PSA level had been undetectable for at least five years after radical prostatectomy. All these patients had PSA levels less than 0.1 ng/ml after surgery. However, one third of them…

Gleason 8 and Proton Therapy vs Surgery
Hi there. I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer on the right side. This was following an MRI on 23 Feb and a Biopsy on 28 March. Had bone scan and PET PSMA scans on 18 and 24 April 2024. Met with a Urologist and two different Radiation Oncologists since then. Biopsy result was 6 of 13 samples were positive for…

15 Years Post RP Detectable PSA
Submitted to a radical prostectomy in June 2009 after an initial PSA of 16.9 and a confirming biopsy. Total time lapse from detection to removal was less than 120 days. My PSA screening occurred regularly for several years post surgery and each result was undetectable - until now. I'm an older veteran and have recently…

Post RARP cath removal incontinence
Good evening to all. I had my DaVinci RARP at Advent Celebration and had a great experience. Stage pT3b involved 11 - 20% of gland. Negative surgical margins. 3 lymph nodes negative for malignancy. Cath removed yesterday, and now I have very little control - very incontinent, especially with 6 - 8 8ounce glasses a day. I…

ADT Side Effects & Different ADT Drugs
My brother-in-law has recurrent prostate cancer (he was originally diagnosed with stage 4a) and his oncologist wants him back on ADT drug he took for 2 years. Thing is the side effects were horrendous. From what I've read (NCI, ACS, etc.), side effects can vary some between the various ADT drugs. His oncologist said they…

Advice for Pt3b N1
Hello all, I am so grateful to have found a community during this time. This is all very new and scary for us. My dad had a radical prostatectomy, and we are scheduled to have a radiation appointment in a week. He has pt3b (cancer in one seminal vesicle) and in one of the ten lymph nodes. His PSA levels are good as of now,…

Starting PT pre Prostate Surgery - not what I expected
My Dr suggested that I do some pre-surgery PT to help shorten the incontinence period after surgery, and then continue with therapy aftwwards. Going into PT I thought I was going to get tips on how to do Kegel excersises properly. But instead the focus was on strengenthing the Pelvic Floor. The therapist first checked my…

biochemical recurrence
I just joined and was wondering Is there already a discussion of this? My husband had stage 4 prostate cancer but radiation and Hormone T has resulted in a five year remission with undetectable PSA. In the last six months PSA is up several times and is going for PSMA-Pet in three weeks and I'm wondering what all this…

Decision Process re: radiation Type
Having just received a diagnosis of prostate cancer, my urologist indicated that radiation is his recommended approach and I'm scheduled to meet with radiation oncologist shortly. I'm stage 2, with evidence of Cribriform pattern 4 so active surveillance is not an option. Recognizing that everyone is different and…

How long to worry about clots and strictures
If I have surgery, how long are blood clots and possible contractures a thing to look out for? Do people still have to pass daily thin catheters through to keep things open for a period of time? I'm wondering if it is advisable to travel overseas within three months of surgery, if all goes well. I know it depends on how…

Advanced Cancer and waiting...
I've been watching my score go up this year (surgery early 2010 and salvage late 2015). My PSA is now .310 up from a .207 in March and .210 in July...I continue with a good and mostly plant base diet, which I believe has helped me over the years (outcome could have been aggressive but it hasn’t to date). Some days I hate…

Just had MRI
Hello everyone, just had MRI because my PSA was 14. I have 3 lesions: 1.6 × 0.8 x 1.4 cm lesion left anterior transition zone at the mid gland (ROI #1). PI-RADS 5: Very high (clinically significant cancer is highly likely to be present) 1.9 x 0.9 x 2.5 cm lesion right posterolateral peripheral zone at the gland base and…

What to expect with no treatment
Hi all. I have a biopsy coming up but, unlike most, I'm not interested in finding out what kind of treatment I may qualify for (frankly, they all sound absolutely terrible) but, rather, how much time I have left. All my friends have already passed on so it's pretty much just me alone at this point so no real desire to put…

Tumor Size Question
My MRI results from last October (below) mention lesion in right mid gland with a measurement of 1.9 x 1.0 x .09 cm. I'm assuming this is the size of my tumor? Is this a length / width / and height measurement of the tumor? If so, is that considered a smaller or larger tumor? Can anyone help me understand this better?…

Delay times between MRI and Biopsy?
67 y/o male, PSA 6.7ng/ml, recently discovered on blood test. I'm getting healthcare thru VA, who also outsources to local hospital because they have the latest and greatest in MRI/Biopsy abilities. I just had my MRI on 4/21/24 which indicated 19mm lesion and a smaller area of abnormality as well. A targeted biopsy was…

Biopsy is done. 26 cores extracted. All benign. What is the next step?
I posted earlier with my data below: "I am 68. I live in Southern California. I have Medicare and medigap insurance. In early 2022, my PSA was 3.9. By November 2023 it went up to 5.3. My PCP gave me referral for a urologist who asked me to do a 3 Tesla MRI, and a urine test. My MRI shows my prostate size: 47cc PSA density:…
