Chefdaddy New Up-date on Mike 5-30-10

Hi everyone I just got off the phone with Chefdaddy, he is in the hospital having problems with a blood disorder. He is not doing very well so please keep him and his children in your prayers and your thoughts. He has had a very hard time going through treatment and is only 11 days post, radiation burns to the skin on his neck made a lot of painful open sores most of that is healing ok but now another set-back for him.

He has no idea when he will be getting out of the hospital or what the doctors plan to do next, I will try to contact him every few days and give you all an up-date.

    Thanks Hondo for the update on Mike. I know a lot of us were worried when he hadn't posted for several days.

    What about his children?? Are they staying with his brother until he is out of the hospital? Hopefully they are able to deal with this and it doesn't cause them anymore setbacks. That entire family has had more than their share of bad things happening to them.

    They will all be in my prayers. Say hi to Mike for all of us when you speak to him again and assure him that he has a lot of prayers coming his way.

    Pls pass on our best. No surprise he is a wreck, considering what has been through. Immediately post treatment can be the hardest part and to have his additional complication is really sad.

    I just got off the phone with Mike he is back in the hospital again today with double pneumonia; seams like the doctors misdiagnose his condition last time. He is also suffering from malnutrition and has lost almost 70lbs; he is very weak at this time.

    As bad as he is he did sound a lot better then the other day when I was talking to him. The skin on the back of his neck is healing the pain is a lot better, he is starting to eat but very little as it is still painful to swallow anything. He said the hospital yesterday gave him some soup, which he did try to eat but it was not long before he realized that there was something wrong, it had pepper in it. We all know what happens to someone who eats pepper after radiation to the head & neck.

    As you know his Son has been on Chemo for 3 ½ years and is due for his last treatment this week, Mike wants more then anything to be there for him. Keep them both in pray so that Mike can get better and be there with his Son for the last of his treatment.

    He's really been through the mill
    70 pounds!
    And when you mention the pepper, believe me, I feel his pain.
    Prayers will be heading Mike's way.

    Let him know we are all waiting for him to return here and hear of his war stories first hand....

    Also, let him know that the fishing is getting good here in Tampa. I'll definitely be thinking of you both if I get out this week-end (you'll both be with me on the boat)....

    Please let Mike know that he and his children are still in my prayers. I miss his humor, even with everything he has been going through he has maintained his sense of humor.

    G’day Everyone

    Got off the phone with Mike a little while ago and he is still in the hospital. He was in a lot of pain all last night because the doc cut his pain med’s in half with out letting anyone know so the nurses could not do anything until the doc got in this morning. His Sons last Chemo was today and he wanted to be with him more then anything but was too sick.

    He is having another problem with blockage of his intestines, I am hoping and praying this is because of the Chemo and nothing else, he is really worried about this new problem as they never found his primary.

    Even through all his pain and trials his spirit remains strong, I don’t think in all my days I have ever meet some one like Mike, he is a fighter and for a good reason, his children.

    He did ask me to say hi to every one of you and to thank you for your continuing prayers and support.

    Cancer destroys a lot of things but one thing it can’t destroy is the friendships we make live though it.

    Sending e-cards to Mike in Hospital
    If you know what hospital he is in, first and last name, sometimes the hospital has a website where you can send him a card by email, that is printed by the hospital and then delivered to him. If you you have that info it would be great.

    I will be talking to Mike on Sunday and try to find out what hospital and room he is in, He is very lonely only his children and brother and his Daughter must stay and help the son, so he has no one to even visit him.

    Hi Hondo,

    Please pass on our best and of course let him know we are all thinking about him.

    I am wondering if his intestinal issues are related to the pain meds and general lack of food he has had. I had bad stomach problems during and after treatment and it was like everything had stopped. I am convinced it was a combination of the Morphine and also the fact that I hadn't been eating.

    I was given 'Fleet Water' which almost sent me into convulsions (from the pain) as it is basically a very heavy Saline solution so you can imagine what did to my mouth and throat. They later tried the same in enema form which helped things along. I hope it is as simple a problem for Mike as he really hasn't been able to eat for a long while. Anyway I hope things improve for him soon.

    Hi everyone, Mike is not doing very well; the doctors are telling him his colon is swollen and not working at all. He has stopped take his pain meds as it could be one of the things causing the colon not to function right. He does not have internet service nor does he have a computer and the way he is feeling I don’t think he would use it if he did. He is getting depressed and feeling as if he will never leave there alive, I ask each of you to pray and if God puts it on your heart give Mike a call, he needs to know how much we care. 503-346-1802 His room is 5C-11 B2
