Update on my amazing husband
My angel Art was diagnosed with advanced renal cell carcinoma in September of 2007. He sustained a fractured femur when he stumbled getting off a plane, and it was discovered to be caused by a tumor. Further tests revealed that the tumor was malignant and began in the kidney. Art endured 4 surgeries, 3 weeks of radiation…

Good News on most recent CT
I really can relate to all the fears, problems, etc. that you all are going thru. But just have to share that my CT came back OK. After having the initial surgery in 2006 and mets recurrences in 07 and 08, plus some really questionable CT's this past winter, I was ecstatic to get a clean report this week. Altho I'm used to…

Kidney cancer but having pain on the other side also?
I am recently diagnosed and wanted to know if anyone had pain on their unaffected side. My scans turned out OK for the "good" side. Needless to say I am worried. I am not getting much response from my doctor. I still am waiting for my specialist appointment and am wondering if I should investigate this pain further. Thanks…

Symptoms
Hi everyone! I am a 6 year survivor of RCC. I had a radical nephrectomy in July 2003. At the time of diagnosis, my only symptom was blood in my urine by testing, not visible. My first CT scan showed nothing. The following year, a mass showed on ultrasound. My concern is this. I recently saw my nephrologist to check my…

Awaiting Open Partial Nephrectomy
New here. I am having an open partial nephrectomy on my left kidney on October 1st. I haven't received an actual diagnosis yet. As I'm reading through so many of these posts it seems as though many people already know the stage, etc prior to surgery. Urologist told me that 90% of the time, the type of tumor I have is…

Hello everyone! I am a 52 year old male who has just been diagnosed with a 4cm solid Rt. kidney tumor. I believe now that I have been mis-diagnosed for 5 years, having symptoms of back pain. DaVinci Surgery: who has had it?
I was wondering how many people here have had the DaVinci robotic surgery and if so how did it go? Where did you have it done? Were they able to just remove the tumor or did the whole kidney need to come out? I'm having trouble finding a doctor who will use the DaVinci on me. So far two have said it would be overkill in my…

combination of drugs
There is a fairly good chance that my husband will be put on avastin and interferon. Am I right to think that this will increase his chances of getting side effects if, for instance, if both drugs list a particular side effect. If anyone has been on this combination or can speak to this situation, I'd be grateful

Freezing your cancer tumor: anyone do it?
Hello everyone. I am brand new here... recently diagnosed with a tumor on my right kidney. One thing I read about was the idea of freezing your tumor and/or kidney after removal so that they…

Did anyone here get a biopsy before surgery?
My doctor said that getting a biopsy of the tumor on my kidney to make sure it is malignant is risky because it could actually do more harm to me. He said the normal treatment is to just go ahead with the kidney removal. I was wondering if people here heard similar advice and did anyone go ahead and get the biopsy anyway?…

Other forums like this?
This is a very informative forum but I was just wondering if anyone can suggest some others? I haven't had much luck finding many from Google searches. I just find places like this with comments from real world kidney cancer survivors very supportive and helpful. If you know of any other similar forums, please share.

Avoiding kidney removal: who should I see?
A recent catscan turned up a 4.9 cm tumor on my right kidney. I've seen two urologist surgeons who both want to remove the right kidney completely. I read an article on WebMD about a study done in 2008 that showed that most surgeons prescribe kidney removal because its easier than just removing the tumor. So how can I find…

TF+
As a newly diagnosed and post surgical patient I was told to take TF+ (4life transfer factor plus) by another poster. I thought I would do some of my own research but also start a new thread here to see if others have taken it and what their experience has been? Can anyone provide some insight or thoughts of TF+? Thanks so…

How many "second opinions" did you get?
I was wondering how many "second opinions" people here got before finally deciding on their treatment. So far I've seen two doctors and am seeing a third next week. Is it typical to see three or more doctors? Did your insurance pay for all these visits? On a related question, do you tell the doctors who else you've seen?
