Renal Carcinoma and the Vena Cava
My mother had surgery on Friday to remove the kidney and mass, and repair the vena cava. Unfortunately, her surgeons said that after removing the mass and viewing the vena cava, if they attempted to remove the blood clot she would probably die. The blood clot/ cancer cells extend from where her right kidney was up to her…

What followup was ordered after the initial removal of the kidney for cancer? Has anyone had a P.E.T. scan? I think that is what it is called. I have had breast cancer and kidney cancer within the last year and a half. I just had my kidney out in February 2005.

Symptoms
Hi everyone! I am a 6 year survivor of RCC. I had a radical nephrectomy in July 2003. At the time of diagnosis, my only symptom was blood in my urine by testing, not visible. My first CT scan showed nothing. The following year, a mass showed on ultrasound. My concern is this. I recently saw my nephrologist to check my…

DaVinci Surgery: who has had it?
I was wondering how many people here have had the DaVinci robotic surgery and if so how did it go? Where did you have it done? Were they able to just remove the tumor or did the whole kidney need to come out? I'm having trouble finding a doctor who will use the DaVinci on me. So far two have said it would be overkill in my…

combination of drugs
There is a fairly good chance that my husband will be put on avastin and interferon. Am I right to think that this will increase his chances of getting side effects if, for instance, if both drugs list a particular side effect. If anyone has been on this combination or can speak to this situation, I'd be grateful

Did anyone here get a biopsy before surgery?
My doctor said that getting a biopsy of the tumor on my kidney to make sure it is malignant is risky because it could actually do more harm to me. He said the normal treatment is to just go ahead with the kidney removal. I was wondering if people here heard similar advice and did anyone go ahead and get the biopsy anyway?…

How many "second opinions" did you get?
I was wondering how many "second opinions" people here got before finally deciding on their treatment. So far I've seen two doctors and am seeing a third next week.
