Test tomorrow
Hi all, I'm having the cystoscopy tomorrow at 8am. They will put me to sleep to do this. I have had this cathether since I had my cancer surgery on May 20th, so you can see it's been a long road. If they could take this out and I'd work right, it would be the best Christmas present I could get. Please say a prayer for me.…

THOUGHTS ON SURVIVORSHIP
I just wanted to share some of my thoughts on surviving and even thriving after cancer. As a 6 year survivor of stage 3 rectal cancer (diagnosed at the age of 36),I've had to face this disease and rebuild my confidence, my self-esteem and my spirit for life. The treatemnts, surgeries and side-effects can be so onerous that…

Another Update
Hi all, thanks for your support. Well Scott is in the hospital again. They opened him up last night and said his bowels were a mess. There were adhesions and perforations all throughout. They also found some white spots on his colon. Surgeon said this could be dead cancer cells from chemo, or it could be live cancer cells…

Thanks Spongebob for your great advice and pep talk. I wrote down all my "greivances" and also all my side effects down and presented it to my onc dr. He spent an hour going through each thing with me. We agreed to drop my dosage down to 80% letting the plastic surgeon dictate on Wed if we continue chemo at this time. My…

New Chemo Regimen
So far, so good with my new chemo regimen. I take Oxaliplatin once every 3 weeks and Xeloda daily (7 pills). The pills are really the worse part - it is getting harder every day to down them. But so far no vomiting or diarrhea - some nausea, but manageable. Not exactly the way I wanted to spend another Christmas holiday. I…

Nurses start your drips...
I have precisely 18 minutes to change my pouch, shower, do my hair (that is falling out) put on a touch of makeup so I "look" healthy and fly out the door to that wonderful place I go for chemo. Round 2 starts today. Oops. Now I only have 17 minutes. Gee... am I procrastinating? I think I just heard the dryer buzzz...…

Positive thoughts please
Hi everyone, It's been a long time since I posted. Things were going well for me (or so I thought). Finished Folfox on the 7th of Oct., got a clean bill of health on the 20th and so decided to go on the truck with my husband Bob (he's an OTR driver in the western states). Had a beautiful time until a week ago when I…

Trouble coping...
My Dad was diagnosed with State 3 Colon Cancer back in August. He went through the surgery fine and is undergoing chemo. He is now halfway through the twelve treatments. For the most part, he is tolerating them well. This has been so hard for me to deal with. Like everyone else, I never imagined that this would happen to…

HOPE!
I am not a frequent poster, but check in almost daily, partly because you people are the only other people that know what this disease is really like. Yes....it is a ROYAL pain. I am an almost 6 year survivor of rectal cancer. I managed to avoid a colostomy, but dealt with all of the issues that so many of you are dealing…

Hi to all, It is 2:06 AM and I just had my 3rd one hour tub bath in less than 15 hours. My butt feels like it is on fire. I am scheduled for a permament colostomy on Jan. 14. What am I going to do with all this time that I will have from less time in the tub. I will certainly get more sleep. lol. I am going to try and…

constipation and diarrhea
Anybody have ideas about walking the tightrope between the two? Senna and lactulose are causing major cramping. But a day without a movement causes more cramping and bloating. This is complicated by Avastin, bowel cancer, and the need for pain med (morphine), which right now is needed for the cramping and distention only.

RE: Stage 3 Colorectal Cancer
My dad was diagnosed in August with Colon Cancer. He had surgery in Sept. The pathology reports showed 9 of 30 lymph nodes postive for mets. The exact result were TNM stage T3b, N2, MX or Duke's C2. He has just finished his first cycle of folfox and begins his next this Monday. They plan on doing this for 6 months but…

Just when....
Just when I am at the end of the rope and think I cannot handle one more thing... I come to the website to vent and realize I am one of the lucky ones. I recently started chemo and am finding it hard to go back for my second round. But I feel humbled when coming to this site because at least I have a second round. I will…

Remember this motto to live by:
Hi Everyone, Some friends who live in England sent me this so I thought I would pass it on.. Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally…

Bob is losing the battle - help me cope!
Hello Everyone! I was going to post last night but I was in a very bad place and couldn't deal. I am doing a little better today. new... have a few questions
My mom was diagnosed with cancer in March 2004, had surgery and thought to be ovarian cancer. Pathology said colon but her colonostipy (sp?) was clear and blood work seemed good so they treated ovarian cancer. She went through months of treatments for ovarian, at first it seemed to respond then it stopped. I got her post…
