Hi all, I'm new to this forum and this is the first post I make. I recently had a colonscopy due to suferring from bloody bowel movements in which a mass was dicovered. The doctor who perfomed the procedure initially told my wife it was cancer from what he saw in the photographs that he took. I went back a couple of days…

The biggest blunder I ever made........
was not having a colonoscopy at an earlier time in my life BEFORE the irreversible damage began.....Whatever my lifestyle prior may have contributed to my diagnosis I feel most,if not all, of the responsibility for my condition rests upon myself ,crucially my refusal to do what I knew I should've done, esp since I already…

My fellow female Colorectal Cancer survivors who have lost hair
Ladies, I purchased a wig when I first found out that I had cancer. I was very fortunate not to have had to use it, not once. I have never worn it. I would like to give it to one of you, to someone that needs it, maybe someone who cannot afford to buy a wig. I have posted a picture of it on my expressions page. It is brand…

Post op infections
My father had surgery for bowel cancer 10 months ago followed 48 hours later by a blood transfusion due to internal bleeding. His abdomen was packed with gauze for 4 days to stem the bleeding. Since then he has had multiple abcesses in the abdominal cavity which burst out through the wound. He goes back in for two weeks…

Disappointment....
My husband and I had scheduled a 30th anniversary second honeymoon/60th birthday trip(for him) to return to where we spent our honeymoon. We were scheduled to depart on the 4th anniversary of my diagnosis (April 6.) However, in light of current world events, we have canceled our trip to Japan, and are sending our good…

Does the body get used to chemo
I am wearing my little black box right now. This is my 4th Folfox with Avastin. I noticed that this time, I am not sneezing as much, and my runny nose isn't as bad as the other times. Also, the nausea isn't as severe. Does the body acclimate itself to the chemo treatments? Do the symptoms get better the more treatments you…

Even the best laid plans go awry....
Oh well.... Even the best laid plans go awry.... What was going to be a two hour operation (with a one week recovery period) to remove/repair a partial intestinal obstruction, turned out to be a total mess. I went in for surgery on January 28th, and tonight (February 28th) I am home, typing. I had been released last week…

small bowel adenocarcinoma
In 1999 I was diagnosed with jejunal adenocarcimoma. In Oct, I had a bowel resection, followed up with 7 weeks of radiation with a 24 hr continous infusion of 5FU, then 6 months of chemo (5fu,lv and cpt 11). CTs have been clear for the past 3 years. Then 2 weeks ago, Jan. 2003, I had an enlarge lymph node in my neck…

Colostomy
My husband has stage 4 colon, with mets to liver. Last month he had a blockage causing emergency operation, ending in a colostomy. It has been very difficult for him, he is trying to adjust. Home health brings the supplies. But they told him that insurance only approved a box of wafers per month. (5) He went through that…

Chemo done/Port out/back to work (TAE for T3 follow up)
Hi all, I had my last round of chemo in mid January, returned to work the beginning of March, and had my port removed yesterday. Only lasting side effect is still some chemo brain forgetfulness and a little fatigue -- it can't be my age ;-) . Nothing exercise and diet will not be able to overcome. To keep continuity, I've…

Irinotecan (CPT-11): how long stay on?
I'm currently on Xeliri (Irinotecan otherwise known as CPT-11 plus Xeloda - the "pill form" of 5FU) -- plus Avastin. I'm tolerating it pretty well (although I can give you a list of moans, if you like! -- mostly about the Xeloda and my feet....). My question is: how long can I stay on this? I just finished cycle #20, so…

Scan update-good news
Greetings all! Good news on all fronts. My husband's sister and niece drove him home from Ft Collins, CO to Wyoming on Wednesday and settled him in nicely with a recliner in front of the fireplace and air mattress on a futon in spare bedroom. He's healing well albeit slowly as the swollen disc (discitis) takes it time. The…

Folfox 6 and Infusion?
OK! I am confused....I understand that my husband will be hooked up with a "box" that will come home with us on one day and we will return on day 3 to be "unhooked". Here's for the confused part: Is there an infusion that happens in clinic before we go home with the box? I am sure the oncologist will let us know. I am just…

Folfox 6 side effects
My husband has recently been diagnosed with Stage 6 cancer of the small intestine. He will be receiving Folfox 6 via a port that has been implanted in the upper right chest area. I would like to know what to expect.

Silly question
When someone says they have been through 2 rounds of chemo, does that refer to two chemo appointments. Like say I had 12 chemo appointments completed is that 12 rounds of chemo, or just one round of chemo since 12 is the entire run of it. Yes I know a weird question.

New Adventure tomorrow (Tuesday)
Well, let's see what tomorrow brings :) Today, I stopped by the Cancer Agency to do my blood work/CEA. I won't be seeing my oncologist tomorrow because since we now are on the new schedule of the half-dose of Irinotecan every two weeks instead of every three weeks... I will see my oncologist every other chemo week. But, of…

Not on Topic but was on "Lock Down" today
Yep, hopefully my first and last "LOCK DOWN". Some 45 year old student (gives us oldies a bad rep, just great)threatened to kill students, teachers and some administrators. My son was in his anthropology class on the opposite side of my classroom, and I was in my Political Science, we were busy texting each other. I looked…

Weight gain/loss poll
I have read that some people gain weight, and other lose weight, during chemo treatments. I started chemo on January 31 of this year, and I am still at the same weight (I need to lose some lbs). I am surprised that I have not gained weight, because on the week that I don't have chemo, I eat like Ms Pacman on fire. What was…

I know you all like a little good news now and then
Jim's scans came back and showed very slight "shrinkage" in his tumors and less activity showed up on the PET scan. We are still going ahead and getting a second opinion on treatment from THE CANCER TREATMENT CENTERS OF AMERICA. We leave Wednesday and will go for a five day evaluation. We are pleased that the current…

Interesting theory:, "Tumours could be the ancestors of animals"
tho I kinda go with the idea expressed by other researchers that individual cells within the tumor compete with each other to survive,( as per Darwin)which these authors disagree with, nevertheless, an unusual concept, found at www.newscientist.com/article/mg20928033.700-tumours-could-be-the-ancestors-of-animals not…
