Study in the British Journal of Cancer on cancer, fruit and vegetables i find difficult to digest:
".....For colorectal, breast and prostate cancer epidemiological studies suggest little or no association between fruit and vegetable consumption and risk......" I know once diagnosed, increasing fruits and vegetables is supposed to be of benefit; apparently, nasty habits hurt more than good habits help in preventng cancer in…

At 42 years of age, one finds that there are fewer and fewer "Cherry" experiences, but last week was a good reminder that I still have a LOT to learn... My surgeon schedules me for my followup colonoscopy last wednesday, and gives me a script for "MoviPrep" to take the evening before the procedure the following morning.…

I broke the pattern
I broke the pattern- my recent CEA pattern, that is, of up-down-up-down. Last time it was drawn (4 wks ago) it was up to 295. Following the pattern, it should have gone down this time but it didn't. It wasn't a huge jump, but a rise all the same- it went from 295 to 319 this time. I was bummed. I did my sauna detox last…

Final Chemo Treatment -- Questions for Oncologist
My husband has his final round of chemo this week -- if his blood work allows. We are meeting with his oncologist. In the past, when we meet with the doctor, I come with a list of questions. The answers are very vague and I feel a little brushed aside. Now we are coming to the end and I am a nervous wreck about what is…

STupid CEA keeps rising
Darn it, was down to 2.1 CEA in Feb, and every three weeks it goes up 2 to 3 points. Now up to 3.2, so Onc is increasing Xeloda to 5 pills in morning 4 pills in evening. This is normal amount for Europeans because they don't eat a lot of bread. Since I don't eat bread either, he thinks this will work fine. If not, then…

Capsaisin and Cayenne

what are the odds?
Do you know what the chances are that colon cancer will metastasize to the brain? Between 1 and 3%. That means there is a 97% that it won't happen. This location of met is being seen more now in colon cancer patients because of extended survival time. As a result of prolonged survival with metastatic disease, the incidence…

Starting New Treatment...
Well, time to get back to the battle. My CEA continues to rise....high enough now that anything else has been ruled out except recurrance. Even though the scans show nothing.... that nasty crap is out there lurking...somewhere. Onc said no sense in letting it grow till we can see it so we might as well nip it in the bud…
