Radiation Offers New Cures, and Ways to Do Harm
"As Scott Jerome-Parks lay dying, he clung to this wish: that his fatal radiation overdose — which left him deaf, struggling to see, unable to swallow, burned, with his teeth falling out, with ulcers in his mouth and throat, nauseated, in severe pain and finally unable to breathe — be studied and talked about publicly so…

scan results => Good News
Last post I was worried about upcoming scans. Context. I am 49 year-old male, Stage 4 CRC, diagnosed in June 2011. I originally underwent 11 treatments of Fofox/oxciliplatin before rising CEA levels prompted concern of cancer growth. Even though CT scans were showing all clear, my persistent onc (good thing) called for…

Trouble Swallowing while undergoing Chemo
Anybody have trouble with swallowing while undergoing chemo treatments? Feels like I am swallowing something too big for my throat/esophagus, even when it is liquid and don't know if it will go down.

Go visit nature
"Humans have enjoyed forest environments for ages because of the quiet atmosphere, beautiful scenery, mild climate, and fresh, clean air. In the present study, we found that visiting forest parks, but not a city, enhanced human natural killer (NK) activity, increased anti-cancer proteins, such as perforin, granzymes A and…

Anyone given the "5 year" speech?....
I'm just curious how many of the Stage 4 survivors were given the 5 year survival speech by their doctor?....More importantly, if you were, how long ago was it?....(pretty obvious where I'm going with this....)

Ready To SCREAM
Sorry I just wanted to start a post for anyone wanting to vent like I know I do. I always had the fear of my cancer returning and now that that fear has become reality i feel as if i might actually lose my mind this time. I had to have my port and liver pump flushed the other day and when the nurse stuck the needle in my…

He had liver resection in November of 2011 and 5 months later new lesions showed up. He has been on FOLFIRI ever since. His most recent scans showed new liver lesions.…

Imerman Angels
I read about Imerman Angels on this forum. Dixondukes mentioned it and I was intrigued. It is affiliated with Gilda's House and provides one-on-one cancer support from people who have had cancer and can provide support. I volunteered as a mentor. A rep from Imerman Angels called tonight to interview me. I was accepted but…

Update Folfiri + Zaltrap
Hi All, Just wanted to give an update on my Zaltrap experience. It's not as exciting as Pete's adventures in Germany but still worth a mention :-) I actually had to look at my profile to see when I started Zaltrap - I started in Oct 2012. I can't believe it's been that long! But that explains why I'm ready for a chemo…

Andrew and anyone else who may be hesitant to post once treatments cease ...
Sometimes one might feel as Andrew stated in a previous post ... "I feel my poor prognosis does not help those who are still battling with this disease"... I have thought about this as well. I also sometimes wonder about the term survivor and the the other war-like military terms associated with a cancer diagnosis and…

Worst Time Magazine Cover of the Year?

Where we are
We went to Madison in hopes of rfa or directive chemo but the tumor is too close to the hepatic artery so he is starting chemo next week. We also found out he is Kras - wild type so I am trying to wrap my brain around that and figure out what exactly that means. I am wondering how we got this far with out testing for that…

O/T: Post what makes you happy
l . The "Pets" thread was fun, but it limited things to those who have pets (obviously). I thought this thread could be for posting whatever makes you happy... a place, a person, a meal, anything. Could be pics pulled from the Internet too, so those who don't want to post anything personal can still take part. I'm going to…

Care to share one kind thing you will do for yourself or another tonight or tomorrow?
I did this a while back and many folks responded, thought I would try it again ... I'll start ... for myself: I am going to lock myself in my art studio for one hour and tell my husband and my son that no matter what they must fend for themselves. for others: I am taking my Cavalier Spaniel therapy dog to the local…

Spleen embolisation
My spleen embolisation was successful. Platelets were up to 630 so I was able to get full dose of irrotecan. Had to skip one treatment while I was recovering. CEA doubled I was hoping for a chemo break. I've been doing this so long but guess that is not going to happen now.

How's the world treating you two darlin's this morning? I've thought about both of you and after talking with Jen about the Coping Mag project, I was inspired to send them another story. "On The Road Again"
To quote one of my favorite singers. New port surgery went well. Just one glitch and it's not a new one. It appears that some nursing staff are not familiar with the particular heart device my hubby has. It is a "hybrid" unit which only fires on the top half. The bottom half only fires if he goes into V-fib, to restart the…
