CSN Wish List
Are there things you'd like to be able to do on the forums? I'd like to suggest... I'd like to make members post searchable! Since most people don't sign each post or thread, you can't search an old member and read their journey or a newer member to find their story. Think 'Find all posts by pookiesusie54.' I'd like to…

singles with cancer
what do people that live alone and are undergoing treatment do with their weekends? Both the "good" weekends and the "bad"? Are there not some sort of social gatherings where singles can meet. A BBQ, a trip to the zoo, a day at the beach???? I can't see myself going on match.com and asking if anyone is into bald chicks? :)…

Round trip radiation treatments
We discovered dad had at least 18 tumors in March, the Monday after the tsunami in Japan. When I also discovered dad had been dropped of his (now ex) wife's health insurance over 2 years before, I told him not to worry, we'd save $ and fly him over Fukishima!

Patsy tells us...
you have cancer! Anyone remember in Terms of Endearment when Debra Winger's character is ordering cake during a fancy lunch with her friend Patsy and Patsy's uppity friends? In response to that, a little later in the movie, one of the women says, in earnest, Patsy tells us you have cancer! Always cracks me up! My little…

Attitude is everything
I know that losing our hair can be quite traumatic, but the following helped me put it into perspective (and made me grin, as well): There once was a woman who woke up one morning, looked in the mirror and noticed she had only three hairs on her head. 'Well,' she said, 'I think I'll braid my hair today.' So she did and she…

Caught with my pants down
I had already found the lump on my shoulder, that would turn out to be non-Hodgkins lymphoma. As a physician I knew that lymphoma was on the list of possibilities for the upcoming excisional biopsy. I went on line and searched on "lymphoma". I found the web site of a guy who found a lump in his groin that turned out to be…

Things you wished never happened
As a male I never had to face a Gyno doctor or have a breast exam. But after having cancer my doctor decided that I should have an Ultrasound on my testicles. Of course my first thought is that it will not happen for a while and I can think about it. But no, the test is in 20 minutes. My next fear was realized when a very…

Kidney Pie
My wife decided we should go to a bed and breakfast on the Canadian side of Lake Huron a few weeks before my Kidney Cancer Surgery. We went to the nicest restaurant in town and they brought all the meals out on a cart to display them. At the time I was not amused about the kidney pie. Now I can laugh about it.

A Thanksgiving memory that makes me smile.
November 22, 2009 - 12:38pm A couple of years back we all decided to gather in the desert for Thanksgiving at my sister in-laws house in honor of her (she had passed several weeks earlier). We decided none of us wanted to cook so we pre ordered our dinner from Safeway, sounds easy right? Well, we weren't in a hurry to eat…

captain's log 042410
Captains log 042410..... Eight days previous, I arose from bed, looked in the mirror pointedly at each and every hair follicle, and proclaimed with a deep and demanding voice much like that of Zeus, "Let the follicular recharge....BEGIN!" However, during the course of the following week, daily inspections have found my…

For Mother's Day, some silliness
The Police A policeman was taking a vandalism report at an elementary school when he was interrupted by a six year old girl. She looked up and down at his uniform and asked, "Are you a policeman?" "Yes, I am," he said. "My mother told me that if I ever needed help I should ask a policeman. Is that right," the girl asked.…

OUT OF THE MOUTHS OF BABES
Just something to make you smile. Tonight my daughter was watching a survival show with her husband and 3 little ones. It was based in the North Pole, the survivalist said "if you look closely you can see signs of life", Ian my 5 year old grand son excitedly told Landon his 3 year old brother "did you hear that he said if…

ON THE WATER
We used to own a boat and we would tool around the Delta on it. I do not swim well so even though I enjoyed myself I was always a tad bit nervous. One day we were docking in prep to go home (I am not good at docking either)which always made me more nervous. I trust my husband totally so when he told me to go to the front…

Lego MRI
NPR blogger Scott Hensley featured a story about a MRI machine made out of Legos. Check it out on their website, it is hilarious. I won't ever be able to look at the machine the same way again. http://www.npr.org/blogs/health/2009/12/we_want_a_lego_mri_for_christm.html

The toilet caper
After I was told I had Lymphoma it was decided that I needed a lower GI to check things out. So my father, brother and I drove 180 miles in the early morning to the hospital where this would take place. The first thing that scared me was this tube attached to a two gallon bag. The second thing is when they tell you its…

The Love of a Child
I have a cute and somewhat humorous story. In 2007 I was dx with cancer for the 3rd time and of course chemo was required, to say that I was not happy about it is an understatement. Well, I went in had the chemo came home and pretty much slept the rest of the day. When I awoke the next day I felt pretty poorly, however I…

Life reminders
As a cancer survivor and caregiver I seem to get constant reminders about our struggles in life. My cousin and I went out for a quick evening sail on his small boat. We were heading back home when the Lake Superior wind completly died. We were becalmed two miles from our dock. Feeling quite secure with out new outboard…
