My Mom, Stage IV colon cancer, will be getting a port in soon. Can anyone give us a heads up on this? - pain involved, management of port, chemo treatments (easier, etc.?). I have read a little about it but would love first hand info. What can I do to make it easier for Mom? I had my chemo through IV, so I'm not too…

Stage 1 survivor with question
I am new here so please bear with me. I had surgery on March 7th, 2003 to remove a Stage 1 tumor that was so low in the colon that it required the surgeon to remove my "rectal reservoir" as he called it. I needed no further treatment of any kind, Praise God but I am going through the problem so many of you have with…

Mom just had a colon resection, mets to liver, lungs, thyroid, and one lymph node in the colon. Recovering fairly well from surgery. The oncologist wants her to start in a couple of weeks with chemo (with a port). Is very hopeful and says this can possibly add several quality years to her life. He plans on using Erbitux…

Am I more at Risk?
If there is colon cancer in my family (my dad) does that mean I am more at risk to get colon cancer or all cancer. My doctor told me that I am only more at risk to develop colon but as for the other cancers, I am as much at risk as anyone else. You thoughts/comments would be appreciated. Thanks

liver met question
OK, when I met with my onc. two weeks ago, I asked if I could be a long term survivor. I have 1 liver met and have been on chemo for 3 full rounds of out of 6. Liver met has shrunk 50% to 1 cm and onc. thinks that at my next MRI (next Monday) it may be gone totally. He said that I have met the two conditions for possible…

Results from CT/MRI
I just got my results from my MRI of liver and CT of chest. The good news is that their is no new tumors. However, the tumor on my liver, which had shrunk 50%, is still the same size as it was in May, 1 cm. Since there is no reduction in size, does this mean chemo isn't working anymore? Could it be dead cells? I have an…

Stage III Question
My dad got his scope today, and they didn't find anything *thank god* so they now think that his urinary problems are cause by a cut nerve during the operation. He is still having severe cramps in his pelvic area, he goes for a scan on Monday...I am a little nervous about that. Does anyone know if and when it meets the…

Hi everyone, I had surgery for rectal cancer 3 weeks ago. The surgery turned out to be more complicated than anticipated and lasted 9 hours.
