Interesting 60 Minutes story on Duke U. trials using polio
Watched the program tonight and was impressed at the possible breakthrough of the researchers using the polio virus to weaken tumors while, at the same time, awakening the hosts immune system to the presence of any and all cancer cells, which the T-cells would destroy. They were dealing with Glioblastomas [which my wife…

Next step is to call doctor. Possibly colonscopy. My hands and legs are swelling and my hip hurts so I wonder if there is some sort of swelling.

Can I borrow a shoulder to lean on?
Hello all. I'm post-port. Just like all of you shared with me, it wasn't bad at all. Logistically, it was a whole production like surgery but the procedure seemed like hanging out with the radiologist and nurses to swap tips on where to get the best fish and produce. Yes, that's what they talked about while I was in my…

Rock Bottom Today
Surgery. 3 weeks ago today. I wish I could say I am back 100% and life could be back to normal. Whatever normal might be. But not so much. I still fatique easily. If I do too much there is a level of pain that reminds me I have over done it. I still have restrictions. Food is a trial and error effort. More often error…

2nd scan results from starting chemo
Results showed my husband's 4 spots in lungs has grown just 1 to 2 cms since last scan. Overall they are still small 5-6 cms. One good thing is there is no new growth anywhere else. So since starting chemo back in Sept. everything is gone except these few spots. He switched to Folfiri 2 treatments ago from Folfox. He also…

CEA Numbers Question
Question on CEA numbers... In December my dad's CEA was 14. After 2 weeks of radiation on his thyroid it went down to 8.6 in January. At one point, he said it was 125 - this was well over a year ago. He has not been on chemo. Also, even though he has two small mets in his liver, liver function tests come back awesome -…

Sun Sensitivity?
We're having unseasonably warm weather here and I got a sunburn this past weekend. Not a bad one, just very red, sensitive skin and a nose like Rudolph the reindeer. It made me think of my aunt who passed away from bladder cancer after having beat breast cancer ten years before. She passed away 20 years ago so her…

Celebrating TWO YEARS NED
Today I recieved the results to my lastest set of blood tests, and my CEA (a good indicator for me in the past) is 0.9. Now I am two years out from my Liver Ablation. Happy? Indeed I am! SUE

Feel the love, and know that we wish you a Happy Birthday and a very happy year ahead. :( I can no longer post my emoticons. Must check with the powers that be, to find out why. SUE

Another post surgery update
I had my post surgery consultation with my oncologist yesterday. She agrees with my surgeon that right now as far as surgery, scans and pathology show there is no sign of any cancer left. That said, if there are tiny microscopic drop cells still hanging out they are to small to show up. With my history after 3 times it is…

Good news from pathology report
Hi all, Getting released from the hospital today. The surgeon just stopped in to let me know the pathology report showed clean margins and no evidence of disease in the 19 lymph nodes he removed. Hopefully this bodes well for the future. I will continue to post from time to time. Wishing you all the best. Ellen

Mom has colon cancer stage 4
My family learned of my mom's colon cancer with mets to her liver and lungs in February after she had a colonoscopy. She had abdominal pain and a constant bloated feeling before she had her colonoscopy done. She's 57 and will be 58 in a couple of months. I'm taking care of her and working from home. My family and I have…

Been a while...
So the last time I updated, things were okay. He was depressed. About a week later I was visiting and he had a stroke (or a seizure, I'm not sure). Lost the left side of his face/upper body. We call 911, they come, take him to the hospital. We get to the hospital, and it was like nothing had happened. Then they did an CT…

Post Surgery Appointment
Appointment with my surgeon went well. He was astonished I was off pain meds, just taking a Tylenol once in awhile and was walking so well. In fact he told me I was amazing. Some of his patients half my age don't recover so well. The staples are out all 89 of them. 2 more weeks of being careful of stairs. 1 more month of…

Panic Attacks? Anxiety?
I'm finding that now that I'm feeling pretty good and living almost normally when something good happens it makes me anxious as well as happy. It's like I've lived with so much bad news and things going badly for the past fews years that when something good happens I feel like it's a magnet for something bad to happen…

Understanding lab and pathology results better
Hello everyone; My wife had a small orange size mass removed from her colon a month ago, the pathology came back saying the tumor was cancer (20 of the 24 lymph nodes came back cancerous as well). The Oncologist stated she has stage 4 cancer and once she heals from her surgery we would start chemo. His plan was to approach…

How Accurate is a PET Scan?
I saw my family doctor today. We were discussing my situation and I mentioned that my surgeon had said that the PET scan had showed that the spots in my lung were likely cancer but they weren't certain. My family doctor agreed. I didn't grill him because I had other things to ask him but I'm wondering. Just how accurate or…

Anticipation
Hi! So after 2 1/2 weeks of radiation/chemo for very low stage 3 rectal cancer, I had to stop treatment. It turns out that it worked so well that the radiation burned through the wall of the rectum and through the wall of my vagina resulting in a rectovaginal fistula. I will spare you the details of the effects of this....…

For those with a HER2-positive mCRC
(Tho probably most of us don't get tested for HER2 which is more common in breast cancer-which is why a breast cancer drug is now being suggested: http://medscape.com/viewarticle/862774 Link doesn't seem to work as you need to be a member of site but study cited says Herceptin has proven very effective in mCRC involving…

Stage 3 Diagnosis
Greetings. I'm fairly new to online forums and completely new to the world of cancer at 36 years old. I was diagnosed late in March. Had open sigmoid colon resection at the beginning of April and learned it was Stage 3 that spread to my lymph nodes. It has been a whirlwind and I still don't understand 99% of this language…

How good can come from sad
I followed Stephen Sutton's short life, impressed and motivated by his determination to do good with the hand he was delt at such a young age. Diagnosed with CRC at 15, dead at 19; but wow, what a legacy he left behind. Of course, we are all not able to make such a huge, newsworthy impact, but we are still able to make an…

The Waiting Is The Hardest Part
Well kind of. Scans done today and waiting. Bloodwork done and I have results, other than CEA which is the one I want to see. Turns out a few CRC types were waiting, including yours truly, for testing today. We spent some time putting some minds at ease for newbies and their family. CRC people rock :)

Home from the hospital
Hi all. Well the surgery is done and after 5 days in the hospital I finally got home. The good news is the pathology report shows the make up of the tumor is the same as the 1st and 2nd time. My dr is still convinced we are dealing with slow growing leftovers. It was totally localized and other than the one spot none of…

New to this board
Hello all, I've been reading the board for awhile now to help me understand what I may be facing. I was diagnosed in mid December with Stage II colorectal cancer. I have already gone through 5 1/2 weeks of radiation with chemo (Xeloda). I still have some pain (quite a lot actually) due to the radiation burns, but seems…

Running out of options
I'm still reading most days, but haven't posted in a while. My liver mets are back in full force 6 months after SIRT. Mostly under one cm but filing most of a lobe. Interventional radiologist says I'm back to systemic care for the rest of my life. I'm currently on Lonsurf which doesn't appear to be working but we'll give…

Hair.....
I am stage 2b. The oncologist ordered 6 weeks of 24/7 5-Fu chemo (in the pack) Monday-Friday with daily radiation, followed by 4 months of once a week chemo. He said there could be hair thinning and some mild hair loss. I'm curious how it has affected others. Should I expect to lose a noticeable amount of hair?
