I just have to share this....
Avastin is now being used to treat retinopathy of prematurity. This is the condition that causes blindness in extremely premature infants. Their eye vessels grow too fast and tortuously and can detach their retinas. This is usally treated fairly effectively with laser surgery. But now, some brilliant person has discovered…

Has anyone had arm pain/swelling during radiation?
My sister was diagnosed with breast cancer (stage 2 estrogen negative) in August 2005. She had lumpectomy Right breast with one lymph node removed (negative) followed by chemo and radiation. Nine weeks ago she finished her A/C and Taxotere. She has been doing radiation and only has 8 treatments left. SHe has developed…

Why is good news scary?
Started chemo again Jan 12th and have had 4 treatments. I had an appt with onco on Wednesday. He said he thinks the chemo is slowing the progression of the cancer, but we wont know for sure until I finish 5 more treatments (3 months w/3 weeks on/1 off). I am hopeful as this is the only positive I have heard, but at the…

you all were right, don't try to interpret the films
I got my MRI with and without contrast back today....and thank God, it is negative. There was a little discussion about some surgery.....to remove the "mass" or was it just surgery on my incision that is growing??? I will need to call back and ask for that to be repeated, because all I really heard was "negative". Thank…

This weekend was particulary hard. Went to an awesome U2 concert on Friday, but felt quite removed from all the fun...extra tired and so conscious of my hair. My scalp has been quite painful and hair started falling out after 3rd chemo on tuesday... It is amazing how many people (with the greatest of good intentions)…

We are so much confused!
So my mom saw the second oncologist today. He went through all the tests that she has already done and examined her. He told her that it is not clear for him yet that she has a breast cancer not lung or bone cancer. The mammogram showed only a small nodule in her breast. The biopsy report is not very clear for him and there…

Immune system back to normal?
Does anyone have any idea how long it takes for your immune system to return to "normal" after chemo? My oncologist told me that "normal" is considered 4.1-11.0. Before I started chemo I was in the 6 range and then 2 months ago (3 months from the end of my chemo) I was at 2.6. He told me that I would probably never go back…

getting more support from sig. others & friends
The man in my life is an engineer and thus certainly a 'fix it' person. He was coming by (we broke up after 10 years last Sept!!) after my diagnosis but it was uncomfortable, he'd rush in and out and I'd be left feeling worse than if he hadn't come. So I emailed him to just not come by because it seemed like he didn't…

anyone have a family member that "doesn't want to hear about it"????
My 26 yr. old daughter says that is the way she copes. She wants no part in going with me for testing...Friday I had an MRI, and she was off work also, so she could have gone with me. I invited her and said we could go to lunch and shopping afterward. Then, she basically never wants me to discuss anything. My mastectomy…

How do you handle the waiting without fear?
I guess I need some advice from you all... After dx in 7/10 of Stage 1C IDC, Triple negative, med grade I had 2 lumpectomies (to get clear margins). I've made it through 6 rounds of chemo but my tumor markers were going up instead of down (31-8/25/10, 36-1/7/11 & 41-1/25/11). My doctor didn't like the upward trend, so I…

Got tread?
I know weird title but let me explain. Ever since my diagnosis and this whole cancer hooplah, I have become super sensitive, I was sensitive to begin with, and also my tolerance for stress is below what it used. I get overwhelmed quiet easy. I can cry at the drop of a needle. And therefore keep anything sad or depressing…
