Weight Survey
Folks! I'd like to do a quick survey on weight. If you can just post, what your weight was, pre-treatment, post treatment, and +1 year, +2 years, +3years out.
Mine is:
Pretreatment: 160 lbs
Post-treatent: 140 lbs (-20 lbs)
+1 year: 148 lbs (+8 lbs)
Reason for the survey: Im no longer gaining weight, despite chewing down 2000 - 3000 calories a day. I'm "stuck" at the current weight, and lose weight very quickly if I don't eat. It's a subject that I'm researching. Apparently it's a term called "cancer cachexia", where the body is just metabolically defective. I wanted to check if anyone has the same issues, and if there's any tips/tricks/research/personal experience.

I'm in the same canoe....
I was 97 lbs when I began treatment....got down to 77 lbs by the end. I have weighed 90 ever since treatment ended in August 0f 2012. Like you, I drop weight fast if I don't eat. I didn't know there was a name for it. Also, I had a recurrence last year....I stayed 90 before and after treatment.

I do believe that treatment affected by metabolism.....but I'm not wasting away....I am strong, and I walk a lot....like 3 miles a day in the winter and 5 miles a day in the summer.

Pre trewatment I was around
Pre trewatment I was around 260. Yesterday, at my 14 month oncology visit I weighed in at 176. I have been struggling to go over 170 and am pleased as punch to be 176 but will never allow myself to go over 180 again. I have found that I don't need to be eating all that food anymore. I probably never top 900 calories a day anymore, but am on disability and not very active. I can eat pretty much anything I want now, and taste has returned for everything, but still very litle saliva production so have to wash most things down which kinda puts a damper on whatever taster enjoyed when I put it in my mouth. Good luck to you, NEGU and I hope your outlook continues in the direction of health and happiness

Wrong Place
Pre-Treatment: 182
Post Treatment: 156
Current weight at 4 ½ years out: 175
So I'm not the only one. Hmmm. I lost weight all over including my face. It came back mostly on my stomach of course. (guy thing) My face looks older now than it was not just because of time but some fold lines that I never had before. No complaints. It's good to be eating right.

WEight Again
Ate a huge Thanksgiving Dinner last year....lost 3 lbs. Chemo sure does changes things. New normal I guess. I did buy a pair of padded underwear so I could wear some pants, size 0-2. Use to be a 36 C, now I don't have a size, maybe F for (flat chested), I have so much excess prune/wrinkled skin I could probably Clone Myself. I started out defting the odds doing better than they have ever seen but 1 yr later Radiation is starting to do new damage. Oh such a gift that keeps on giving. Just in the Hospital for water poisoning, decided after eating healthy.....first time in My life that I am going To enjoy My days. I realize this Cancer is a **** so Im going to enjoy what I want since time is limited or radiation will take its toll. Just My opinion, doesn't work for everyone. Just lost a friend toCancer that she was maintaing for 3 yrs. Came back with a vengeance, died 2 months later before her 62 birthday. Was healthy her whole life. So enjoy each day of life, don't sweat it, no rhyme or rseason to this nasty crappy Cancer. Have fun, go for it! My Brother-in-Law always said " Quality over Quanity". Though He died at 67, he lived his life "My Way" and had no regrets. He was so well loved for his upbeat personality. My Mom lived way beyound the rest of her Family and at 93 will managed COPD will herself to die last yr since she no longer felt she was really living. I live in Florida and see the Elderly constantly, they are alive but NOT living, so to speak. I love to travel, eat wonderful food, good wine & good friends. By taste & smell is 110% , but sugar is tooooo sweet so No wine now but some good lite beer is refreshing.....a little Baily's in coffee great after dinner relaxing. My Drs all know, I don't hide a thing. They understand Mywishes, & most are surprised what I can eat & drink, moderation is a key, & let me enjoy My life. Again, this is MY OPINION, , if you disagree, that is OK. We are all different. To All.....I so wish You all the best!

Hey Phrannie "P", Boy how this nasty Cancer & Chemo changes so much. It appears so many of Us have this problem. I refuse to drink or eat nasty processed, surgery drink like Boost/Ensure & found a great Organic shake called Orgain which you can get ready made from Whole Foods, Walgreens, CVS, Amazon. Tastes good, not chalky & like 1/3 the sugar. But great protein & sugar is organic. I eat like a horse & cant gain weight. Gaining a few, added some padded underwear to My wardrobe for a little boast. I don't think I was born this thin. Eat as much as you can, try for the the healthy stuff, don't sweat it, stay positive & if We stay this thin......We can Model the Runways, We can fit all the clothes...teehee. Your such a Sweetie.

Very timely topic, I have
Very timely topic, I have been looking at something like what you are describing, but I'm only seven weeks since last rad and not sure what is normal/abnormal.
Pre weight 218
End of treatment 177
7 weeks out 180. High was 184
But I went from around zero calories at the end to 2,000 daily within a week post-treatment. If I miss 2,000 by as little as 100 calories, I can lose 1/2 pound in two days. Right now I'm still pretty much only liquids while my ulcers and sores heal up.

weight
pre surgery: 160
2 weeks later: 140
After radiation: 118
2 years later: 120
3 years later: 140
It took more than 2 years to gain weight, I burned off tons of calories. If I did not exercise everyday I would be back to 160 now, but I enjoyed being able to eat and not gain while it lasted. I was a bit worried about it though for those 2 years and weighed everyday and tried to eat a lot.

Which brings to mind another
Which brings to mind another very interesting question -keeping it off. It seems that more than a few here were probably struggling with losing weight pre-treatment. I was locked in a 10 pound range that was 15 pounds more than I wanted, and no amount of healthy living changed that. My primary care doc was always on me about losing some. Now I am a greyhound and he is a pudgebucket. I need to regain some, but 10 pounds is maybe the max I want, never again do I want to be looking at 200 from above. Did all of this trauma destroy that old set point? When you did start regaining, was it fast, or did you have some control?

For weighty subject
Pre-Treatment........220
Post-Treatment.......170
After 8 years.......currently 183. Been walking 18 holes five days a week for the last 3 weeks, so missing lunch seems to make a difference in weight loss (Duh !). Still can't make a 5-6 foot putt.

Try the pool table method for the putts.

let me be thin enough for the runways now that I'm old!!...hahahahaha I thought about padded underwear, but was taken back in my mind when my mom bought a pair of padded underpants, so she'd have a butt....when she modeled her stretch pants (remember the ones with stirrups??)....my sister and I howled with laughter....she looked like she was wearing two frying pans. Have they improved over the last 35 years or so??

I'm not alone!
Seems like I'm not alone in this. Strength in numbers (!), not sure if this is a good thing.
I guess it takes a while for the body to recover from all the trauma. It is encouraging to see some do put on weight after a long time. I don't think I've ever been at 148 lbs (maybe when I was a teenager). The meat on the face will probably also not come back. oh well. Thanks for those who responded to the survey! Keep the numbers pouring, and if anyone had any tricks that helped them gained weight (in a healhty way) please share.
I'm trying out something new. Based on the reports I've came across, weight gain isnt' just about eating, but it had to be a combination of eating, and exercising. It's something to do about "making the body use calories" from the exercise. Kind of counterintuitive (burn calories to gain weight?) but I'm going to give it a shot and see how it goes. It will take a few months to have a reliable result and plan to keep everyone posted.

in 3 month clumps. They scan my chest every three months, since the recurrence....I live my life like nothing ever happened for 2 months and 28 days....go to the ceiling fan for 4 days, and when everything is ok....it's back to doing what I want! Sometimes I think the recurrence was the best thing to ever happened to me....my worst fear came true, and here I am still hanging in....I got over the fear, and started living....YOU GO GIRL!!!

I'm six weeks post-treatment. Yours is the most uplifting post I have read so far. Me, +8 years, 190 lbs, flyrod. Right now that sounds incredibly hopeful.
