    LOL....mother natures joke...

let me be thin enough for the runways now that I'm old!!...hahahahaha  I thought about padded underwear, but was taken back in my mind when my mom bought a pair of padded underpants, so she'd have a butt....when she modeled her stretch pants (remember the ones with stirrups??)....my sister and I howled with laughter....she looked like she was wearing two frying pans.  Have they improved over the last 35 years or so??

    Padded Underwear

    Hey "P"......

Ck Amazon.  Got a comfortable pair, not expensive & padding is slight & can be taken out if you want to order a larger set of padding.  Only wear it for special times & it does give a little padding with sitting.  Bony butts can hurt on harder surfaces.  Up to 106lbs, only 20 more to go.  Look out, love Creme Brûlée.   Lisa

I'm living the same way, Daisy....

in 3 month clumps.  They scan my chest every three months, since the recurrence....I live my life like nothing ever happened for 2 months and 28 days....go to the ceiling fan for 4 days, and when everything is ok....it's back to doing what I want!  Sometimes I think the recurrence was the best thing to ever happened to me....my worst fear came true, and here I am still hanging in....I got over the fear, and started living....YOU GO GIRL!!!

    p

    Hey P,

I was doing well, making saliva on My Radiated side.  Than boom, clogs up.  Swell when ever I ate but can't get out.  My ENT & I did the usual but didn't work.  So went to a Specialists 3 hrs away.  She looked over all My past scans & recent .  NO stone, but feels delayed radiation damage that narrowed the duct.  Still swells up with saliva whenever I eat but no draining. Made Me realize how fast "The gift that keeps on giving" as in Radiation can hit whenever it damn well pleases.  Will check more options to try & save it but made Me realize "Just Live Each Day as Best a You Can".  Been reading a lot on the HPV 16 + Virus & Cancer...... not the best outlooked for Throat.  Seems to be moving to so many other places.  So I agree......." You Go Girl !!"  Live a Life & Enjoy !

    Pre diagnosis 175

After diagnsos (freaking out) beginning of treatment - 165

    Post treatment 140

1 year 142-45.  Honestly, I was over weight, drank and ate lost of bad calories.  Now I eat very well, don't drink calories (beer) anymore, I have not gained any weight really but I feel good.  I can't gain weight though.  Not sure if this is just my natural weight with my new lifestyle, but as long as I don't lose more weight I think I'm good.  I think it may also be a product of on the weekend I have  no problems eating and gain some weight.  During the weekday while working eating is still a pain and I don't do the best job.

    Weight

My husband weighed in at 250 prior to treatment.

At end of treatment he was 175.

Now, 2 years post treatment, he is 185.

He feels good, rides a bike to work most days and in many ways is living a healthier life than prior to treatment. He no longer needs blood pressure medication and his cholesterol dropped significantly.  It was a heck of a way to loose weight, and I don't recommend it, but thankfully, he is doing extremely well. He does have to work at maintaining his weight. His taste buds never returned to "normal" and his saliva isn't what it used to be, but he does enjoy most foods, just not the same as before treatment.

    I'm not alone!

Seems like I'm not alone in this. Strength in numbers (!), not sure if this is a good thing.

I guess it takes a while for the body to recover from all the trauma. It is encouraging to see some do put on weight after a long time. I don't think I've ever been at 148 lbs (maybe when I was a teenager). The meat on the face will probably also not come back. oh well. Thanks for those who responded to the survey! Keep the numbers pouring, and if anyone had any tricks that helped them gained weight (in a healhty way) please share.

I'm trying out something new. Based on the reports I've came across, weight gain isnt' just about eating, but it had to be a combination of eating, and exercising. It's something to do about "making the body use calories" from the exercise. Kind of counterintuitive (burn calories to gain weight?) but I'm going to give it a shot and see how it goes. It will take a few months to have a reliable result and plan to keep everyone posted.

    Hi Kenny, thanks for posting

Hi Kenny, thanks for posting this. My cousin who is 36 years old & has been fighting npc for 1 1/2 year now. She is also suffering from cachexia and I am researching on ways to help her gain weight, that is how I came upon your post. Pre-treatment she was 115 pounds and now she's about 90 pounds & still going through treatments. Please keep us updated here on what you find & I will do the same as well. Good luck!

    Weight survey
I’ve not started yet but weight before you start treatment is still relative to your height and life style. Running marathons in December last year I was 134 lbs (BMI 23) people said I looked ill on that weight which usually means it's about right for running. Even before I was officially diagnosed I was beginning to think cancer in January so I started building weight, 161.4 lbs this morning (BMI 28)  I think I have about 3 weeks before treatment starts so I might get a few more pounds on. Regarding weight gain is it worth looking into some of the methods the body builders use for putting weight on when training?

    My hubby:

    Pre-treatment 235

    Post-treatment 200

    Pre-surgery 200

    3 months post-surgery 185

He's been using the PEG exclusively since Oct 2016 and I have been putting about 2500 calories in daily....mostly blended food but boost now and then.  I've just upped it to 3000 calories to see if I can at least stop the loss.
