More Very Bad News

I have been having intense pain in my right ankle and right thigh for a few days now. My personal Doc talked to me this morning and after hearing my description of the pain and looking at the latest CT scan, he thinks there is a strong possibility that the cancer has spread to my bones. He immediately scheduled me for a bone scan tomorrow morning just to be sure. Oh, man, I don't want to think about the pain of bone cancer. Last night, my thigh was hurting so bad that I was just whimpering as I crawled around the house. I finally got enough demerol in me to numb the pain. My wonderful wife, Sue, was with me today when we heard this news and we are both in emotional turmoil. I think both of us knew this nasty cancer would take me someday, but we were hopeful it would be quite a ways away. I have no guesses yes for my longevity, but I sure hope it's a ways off. Gotta go now as I have lots of things to think about.

    I'm sorry for your suffering
As you do I have no thoughts about prognosis with this type of cancer to the bones, perhaps someone here has faced this development. I only offer thoughts that your suffering and your wife's suffering is somehow diminished.

Roger; I hope that the pain
Roger; I hope that the pain you're feeling now is not what your Dr thinks it could be.
Keep in mind that depending on what treatment you had; you could have side effects from it (I say this not knowing your history). You mention hip pain which could be from your back being out of alignment. Also; if you're on antidepressants; they have side effects too. I have an 18 year old suffering side effects from them.

My hub was prescribed Actiq pops & said they were the best for his cancer pain. Keep it in mind & ask your Dr for a script. He may be able to prescribe a few just for you to try.

    Good luck

Roger, hoping the doctor is wrong and there is an easy explanation for your pain. I wish you the best.

    Lots to think about
Hi Roger, very sorry to hear of your symptoms. Certainly you do have a lot to think about. Nothing is conclusive yet. When it is, then make your plans, whatever the prognosis. Keep love in your heart, and hope.

    Thoughts with you
Sorry about the diagnosis and hope Sue holds up ok as well - I know she too must be scared. Wish you guys were down here in Mexico, wouldn't change anything but the area would be uplifting and the tequila would......

    Hang in there bud!

    bone mets
    Roger,
My husband has bone mets but no pain. There was concern about one lesion in his pelvis for fear of fracture, so they radiated it. I do know that radiation is used for palliative care with bone pain and is quite effective.
Andy's mets were found in June and they have not grown. On his current treatment, they have actually shrunk so, I do believe it can be kept at bay and maybe for a LONG time.
Hope it's not mets but just wanted to share our experience, just in case.
If they are positive, I will be glad to tell you more about his current treatment.
