This post started out as walking, but we are an open minded bunch and now we have many exercise types listed in the title. Just move if you can.
We also have the unique 100,000km 30 year clinical trial being run here. will anyone make this target, dare is say even earlier than 30 years. It would be just so amazing. Obviously we will all have to live that long to get an invite to the party.

This is the walking post. I am walking to the naturopath right now.
I feel fine, with energy just bad diarrhea. Its good having a bag, I don't have to find a tree anymore. haha
If you have some energy and are well come for a walk with me today. A walk around the world if you will for 10 minutes to 5 hours whatever you can manage. going to do this everyday.

1. What is the relationship between physical activity and colon cancer risk?
Colorectal cancer has been one of the most extensively studied cancers in relation to physical activity, with more than 50 studies examining this association. Many studies in the United States and around the world have consistently found that adults who increase their physical activity, either in intensity, duration, or frequency, can reduce their risk of developing colon cancer by 30 to 40 percent relative to those who are sedentary regardless of body mass index (BMI), with the greatest risk reduction seen among those who are most active (3–7). The magnitude of the protective effect appears greatest with high-intensity activity, although the optimal levels and duration of exercise are still difficult to determine due to differences between studies, making comparisons difficult. It is estimated that 30 to 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per day is needed to protect against colon cancer (6, 7). It is not yet clear at this time whether physical activity has a protective effect for rectal cancer, adenomas, or polyp recurrence (3).
Physical activity most likely influences the development of colon cancer in multiple ways. Physical activity may protect against colon cancer and tumor development through its role in energy balance, hormone metabolism, insulin regulation, and by decreasing the time the colon is exposed to potential carcinogens. Physical activity has also been found to alter a number of inflammatory and immune factors, some of which may influence colon cancer risk.

Among obese patients, activation of the protein biomarker CTNNB1 was associated with better colorectal cancer-specific survival and overall survival, whereas post-diagnosis physical activity was associated with better colorectal cancer-specific survival among patients negative for CTNNB1, according to a study in the April 27 issue of JAMA.
Activation of the WNT signaling pathway (a network of proteins known for their roles in cancer) and cadherin-associated protein beta-1 (CTNNB1; [beta-catenin]) plays a critical role in colorectal carcinogenesis. Accumulating evidence indicates a role of WNT-CTNNB1 signaling in obesity and metabolic diseases, according to background information in the article. Considering the dual roles of CTNNB1 in carcinogenesis and energy metabolism, the authors hypothesized that activation of WNT-CTNNB1 signaling might confer proliferative ability to cancer cells. "In addition, epidemiological evidence suggests causal effects of obesity or excess energy balance on colon cancer incidence and mortality. Notably, physical activity (exercise) has emerged as a modifiable lifestyle factor that may improve cancer survival," the authors write.
Teppei Morikawa, M.D., Ph.D., of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston, and colleagues conducted a study to examine whether CTNNB1 activation in colorectal cancer modified prognostic associations of body mass index (BMI) and level of postdiagnosis physical activity. The study included data from 2 U.S. prospective cohort studies (Nurses' Health Study and the Health Professionals Follow-up Study) to evaluate CTNNB1 among 955 patients with stage I, II, III, or IV colon and rectal cancer from 1980 through 2004. A model was used to compute the risk of death, adjusting for clinical and tumor features.
During follow-up through June 2009, there were 440 deaths, which included 266 colorectal cancer-specific deaths. Analysis indicated there was a significant modifying effect of BMI. In obese patients (BMI 30 or greater), positive status for nuclear CTNNB1 was associated with significantly better colorectal cancer-specific survival (5-year survival: 0.85 for patients with positive nuclear CTNNB1 status vs. 0.78 for those with negative status) and overall survival (5-year survival, 0.77 for patients with positive nuclear CTNNB1 status vs. 0.74 for those with negative status). In contrast, among nonobese patients, positive status for nuclear CTNNB1 was not significantly associated with cancer-specific survival or overall survival.
The authors also found that for patients with negative status for nuclear CTNNB1, high level of postdiagnosis physical activity was associated with significantly better colorectal cancer-specific survival (5-year survival, 0.97 vs. 0.89). However, for patients with positive status for CTNNB1, physical activity was not associated with colorectal cancer-specific survival or with overall survival.0 -

it was absolutely fantastic and great for my soul and the community i live in.
the weekend raised over $500,000 for cancel council funds to go research.
did alot of laps and talking, met heaps of survivors and carers.
we had great food, music and fun and were being healthy.
the walking went all night. my wife turned up at 1am and did 18 laps.
I jogged one lap, walked many, don't like running with the bag, but made.
I was jogging on completely numb feet, feels so strange. Its a small miracle but now I have most of the feeling back in my feet. thankyou G.
I am absolutely determined to walk and run the marathon next year. its an annual event.
that 106 laps of the 400 meter track.
On saturday night we had to light a candle for our friends departed half way around the world 1000s of aussies walked past a candle in a bag with kerry's name on it, one also for John. I feel a little guilty but I could not remember marys name at the time, but I remembered her avatar. I also did one for our aunty val who died of lung cancer in nov2010.
My kids wrote messages on the bags and had fun with the candles. Hundreds of candle lite bags. with a little sand in the bottom. the rememberance service was short and so emotional. I felt privileged to be alive.
So many other carers, survivors and supporters. Raising money, being healthy, remembering and celebrating life.
I did my walking, had some free massages, healthy food. its an amazing event, its massive.
I helped them cleanup all day yesterday, and met an amazing naturopath from usana.
As an amazing co-incidence my kids school is doing our sports carnival at the same track as the weekend realforlife. I have a donation bucket and I have asked the school if its ok for the kids to do a rememberance lap. she said ok. so it should be good tomorrow.
back to swimming squads this afternoon. cannot wait. also emailed onc if I can get the tumour tested the exercise bio marker.
lets get moving, exercising and enjoy our day.

Paddling
Hi All,
Pete it sounds like the Relay for Life was awesome! I love that your kids were involved.
Yesterday, **** and I went stand-up paddling at Ala Moana Beach. (If you saw the picture of the 2 water spouts yesterday, they were right off Ala Moana about 4 hours after we left.) We had a great time. **** went out into the waves and caught 3 smaller waves and then a fantastic wave. I watched the whole thing while I paddled. When we were putting the boards in the truck, **** was a new man. Exercise is the key for so much for him. He felt strong, healthy and invigorated. Very good things to feel since he has had 40 rounds of chemo. For him exercise is helping to keep him going. If he wasn't exercising he would be tempted to just give up and give in the the feelings of sickness and weakness. (His words.) Everyone is different in this area, I am just sharing what works for ****.
I also felt so happy after getting out of the water. I was happy on the water as well. Good for mind, body and spirit.

dicks surfing is not only helping him, but its helpings lots of others who for whatever reason are unable at this time to get out and enjoy the water or their place on our beautiful planet.
