"Look Good - Feel Better"
Once again I haven't seen anything recently about the "Look Good - Feel Better" classes and we have a lot of 'Newbies' so thought I'd bring it up again. "Look Good - Feel Better" is through the ACS and local Cancer Centers - it is for women AND men. You will be taught about so much as to how to 'look good' and thus 'feel…

Are Lytic Lesions on CT Scans Always Cancer? Worried.
My mom who is an 11 year Stage 3 breast cancer survivor had an xray done for shoulder pain at the ER which was clear. A CT scan was ordered of the neck/chest/abdomen/pelvis because of her history and the results are suspicious for malignancy. We are going stir crazy waiting for an appt. for biopsy and she has a bone scan…

newbie, in limbo re deciding treatment for DCIS found after breast reduction
I've come to this forum a bit backwards. Had a breast reduction in late summer (pre-op mammo showed nothing) and at my 2 week follow up with the plastic surgeon, he almost casually mentioned while he was removing stitches that the preliminary pathology report had shown some "breast disease in situ" in right breast. said i…

Genetic testing
I was DXed with DCIS in July 2009. Lumpectomy and brachytherapy went well. All subsequent semiannual mammograms have been A-OK. Now a new gynecologist is insisting that I get genetic testing. As with so many of us, I had no family history of breast cancer. I feel she is pushing this as part of some agenda she has, not for…

Got through it--OT
The colonoscopy that is. You ladies were right. The prep is the worst! That first glass had me gagging right from the get go. I used a straw too! It was a long hour and a half getting that stuff down my throat. But immediately after that last sip, BINGO! The earth stood still, the angels were singing, the planets aligned…

Hi, new here. Just had bilateral mastectomy and want to know about swelling?
I found out in 1999 that I had LCIS from a stereotactic biopsy. In 2000, I had a lumpectomy to remove calcifications which were DCIS. At that time I had a partial mastectomy to get a clear margin. I had a lumpectomy in 2008 to remove calcifications which were benign. In October 2012 I had another lumpectomy which showed…

Ovary problem now...
So I had my first pelvic ultrasound to see how the Tamoxifen is treating my uterus after 5 months on the medication. They found that I have a 6 cm growth on my left ovary, probably a dermoid, and now I have to have to have my left ovary and tube removed. I also will need a D&C. If they find any cancer during the surgery…

Would like input on Herceptin as part of treatment
I had surgery on 10/5 for Stage IA her2+ and ER+ tumor. Nodes were clear, on 10/12 Oncologist advised TCH treatment. I will meet with oncologist Monday to discuss path forward. I have been doing a lot of reading and am not sure I want to do the Herceptin part of the chemo. Did anyone out there have a hard time deciding if…

Has anyone had a DIEP flap reconstruction on just one side, then a second surgery to make the breast
I am new to CSN and to breast cancer. I have surgery scheduled for Friday 11/16/12 for "in situ" CA with immediate reconstruction after a total mastectomy, preserving all the skin and hopefully the nipple. The doctor said if I have a mastectomy rather than a lumpectomy, I will not need radiation or drug treatment and will…

Can I have a Fistula (for dialysis) put in the same arm that my lymph nodes were taken from?
I had breast cancer of the right breast eight years ago. I had a Lumpectomy and three lympth nodes removed. There was cancer in one of them. I was told to Never have blood drawn, or blood pressure taken on my right arm again. Now eight years later I am set up to have a Fistula put in my arm for dialysis. The surgeon wants…

decision time
I was diagnosed with grade 1 breast cancer a week ago. the mass is still small...2 cm. I am so torn over what treatment to undergo. The lumpectomy seems like it would be least invasive. But, the radiation and hormone therapy sound pretty lousy. Is it an overreaction to even be considering mastectomy? And even crazier to…

Herceptin with taxol
I will be starting my chemo treatments on the 29th of November. I will recieve taxol(or taxotere) with herceptin once every 3 weeks for 18 weeks, then will continue the herceptin for a full year. I am curious as to when to expect my hair to fall out. I want to shave it off before it falls out on it's own, I plan on sending…

My talk from today's worship service posted on my expressions page
You may remember my telling you all a few weeks ago that our minister and I were offering a Sunday worship service honoring everyone whose lives have been touched by cancer, and to talk about how this month of pink ribbon mania feels to survivors of other forms of cancer. Our “Surviving October” service was this morning,…

I've had MANY operations to include my bilateral,…

Post-lumpectomy drains
I'm 3 weeks post-lumpectomy; had drains placed on Friday because the fluid build-up was so enormous and out of control. Saw the surgeon today - drains still in. When can I expect to feel better from the drains? (Yes, the pressure is gone, but I'm horribly sore and feel the constant drainage.) Any idea how long the drains…
