Today, the DJ on my favorite radio station played a request for a 'forgotten 45' - The Shape of Things To Come by Max Frost & the Troopers. If you remember this song, we are very close in age. It was from the movie 'Wild in the Streets' with Christopher Jones (a cutie). Released in (ugh!) 1968. I was 14 & a half. Good grief! Shhh, that means I'll be 57 in December.

So, what dates you? WHAT, not Who!

    I wore a tube top with overalls. Remember that trend? (mid 70's) Had an 8-track player, watched Donny and Marie, had the Farrah do.

    When I think about the Paul McCartney concert I will be attending with my hubby next month, thanks to my darling daughter and son-in-law, I wonder if I'll have tears streaming down my face like I did when I saw the Beatles on Ed Sullivan that Sunday night in February, 1964, at age 12 and a half. I can't wait!!!!

    I prefer raisons over dates, thank you. I am almost a year older than you - I will be 58 in November. I do know that when I was 14, being the age I am now was like being on another planet. What I remember about being 14 was babysitting all I could to make some money - sewing my own "cool" clothes because stuff off the rack was boring. In love with all of the Beatles, and Donovan. My brother, who lived in California at the time would send me underground newspapers. I skipped school alot, but alway managed to slide under the scope. It was the good old days of no responsibility, no rules I couldn't escape, and lot and lots of exploration.

    Sometimes, in retrospect, I think I might have put those years to better use. But hindsight is not alway 20-20. If I went back, knowing what I know now, I would probably just make different mistakes. So I will be content where I am, and rejoice in knowing that Jesus will save me from my sins.

    Nice thread - I often wonder what it is going to be like for the fourteen year olds today when they reach our age. When I look at the bounds and leaps of technology I can't imagine.

    Enjoy your age - it's a once in a lifetime opportunity.

    I had HUGE hair going North, East and West. Humongous hoop earrings, pink frosted lipstick, green eyeliner on the top, blue eyeliner on the bottom. I kept Merry Go Round clothing store in business...OMG!

    It's really funny. My long term memory is great, short term memory not so good. I remember the song well. Flashback to the good old days.

    I loved peace signs!

    In 1975 you could catch me in my leather mocassins, Lee jeans, tie-dyed t-shirt, Marsha Brady hair style, and a puka shell necklace. I liked the hippie style.

    Music - Crosby, Stills & Nash, CCR, Led Zepplin, The Eagles & Hall & Oates to name a few.

    1st concert - Tower of Power & Billy Preston (Will it go round in circles?) My concert ticket was 5 bucks.

    Room Deco - My room had a red & white Coca Cola bed spread, a bean bag, Lava lamp and posters of Rod Stewert.

    FAV sitcoms - Brady Bunch, The Partridge family, Love American Style, Love Boat and The Midnight Special!

    I saw the very 1st Saturday Night Live and the very 1st MTV video.

    Great thread Sue, it was nice to take a mental walk down memory lane...

    My husband and I made and sold macrame' flower pot hangers in local stores in Southern California~ we also made candles in milk cartons (they were big and burned a looong time!)and we saved money in our first apartment by burning oil lamps instead of turning on the lights!
    We also got a HUGE box-full of books upon books of H&S Green Stamps sent to us as wedding gifts! With them we got lots of stuff to furnish our little place with at the local Green Stamp redemption store!

    The first LP Album I ever
    The first LP Album I ever bought in High School was The Dave Clark 5! Prior to that I had a stack of 45RPMs but the DC5 was the first album. Funny how we remember that stuff, huh?

    I was a concert-going freak back in the day~I still am, actually! When I was 19, I went to one of the "most different" for the time...it was the introduction of the first Rock Opera, namely Tommy by the Who! I remember being mesmerized at how a rock concert had a story and a theme attached! All of us at the concert were amazed and came out LOVING the Pinball Wizard! And now,the Who is making a boat-load of money by having their songs used as the theme for all of the CSI series on TV. Strange, indeed!

    I am one of those girls who truly remembers the 60's! I never liked the wacky-tabacky and I stayed as far away from it as possible...still can't stand to be around the smell of it.

    But I wasn't angelic~ one of these days I might tell you about how I was with a bunch of GI's just returning from VietNam and we stole a Red Cross helicopter for a nighttime joy-ride up the Rhein River in Germany! Oh wait~ I think I just DID tell you about that! LOL LOL In this post 9/11 world we would be shot out of the sky....but in the 60's? not a chance!

    Flakey~ I just saw Donovan not too long ago! He knows someone who knows someone, etc and he was invited to play in my little town at the one and only tavern~ and he graciously wanted to! He is still married to the same woman he has been with since forever, like 40+ years or something~ and he sang all of the old songs and was as Hippie, sweet, gentle and funny as ever! He still has the long wavy hair, tho it is (sigh) grey now...
    It was a great evening! A bunch of 50-60 somethings singing Jennifer-Juniper! LOL LOL

    I also remember Petti-coats! We laid them out in a big circle on the floor at night and starched them so that they would stand out even more under our skirts! OMG! And we pressed creases into our jeans too! And YES! we had to button the cardigans in the back~ those sweet round pearl-like buttons! Which reminds me...Wringer Washers taking those buttons off of our clothes and if we were not careful, smashing our fingers! Hmmmm..rather like a mammogram! LOL

    and . . .getting bottled pop out of the machine where you had to move the bottle over to the corner, put your $$ in, and lift it out

    I love these trips down memory lane. Traci, I am an 80's girl, too, and remember all that glitter and Madonna-style clothes and hair. I remember when everyone used phone booths and it was 20 cents to make a call. I remember when the movies were $3.50. I remember crimping my hair and trying to get my bangs as high as possible with lots of hairspray. I remember getting 5 perms from the age of 12 to 17. Favorite sitcoms were Growing Pains, Family Ties, and the Facts of Life. Remember the young Leonardo DiCaprio on Growing Pains and George Clooney on Facts of Life? Hee hee.
