Drinking
I also drink slowly and I try to have liquid flow down the middle of my mouth/tongue, to avoid the sides and especially the backend of my mouth/jawbone. Mostly at room temperature-forget about cold liquid. I get extreme bad feelings when liquid hits inner jaw aND WHEN FOOD IS CHEWED, FIRST FEW BITES REALLY GEt to me in jaw area but I kept chewing, it lessens as I eat and I get some food into me.I Rely alot upon nutrition drinks-Ensure plus, CVS version, etc.0 -
Tea
I love sweet tea/ iced and hot. I found that after just a day or so, I could drink room temp tea. Hot tea was always okay. I had to let my O.J. sit out and get to room temp, but that was spring and summer. Room temps this time of year isn't that warm. ) Loads and loads of bottled water!0 -

Gargling with the mircle mouthwash that I got form my ONC helped. It numbs the area.0 -

Ah, I remember it well....almost made me give up eating altogether....good for you that you plow thru!!!
I, too, drank ALOT of ensure....tried the boost, but it didn't taste good. Also drank Propel...it tastes wierd anyway, so the taste change didn't bother me...

Coffee........and all other warm or room temp pallatible drinkstiny one said:drinks
For me lemonade usually tasted good. I also liked tea, coke. Seems like room temp drinks I could handle. Coffee, hot chocolate, hot tea, maybe those will work for her. Watermelon always tasted good while I was going thru chemo.
Sunkist Orange Drink, Ocean Spray Crangrape, Hot chocolate, Warm Dr Pepper with lemon, Hot Tea, Makers Mark, Very Old Barton...OOPS...Kiddin...
Out of all of them the Sunkist Orange in the 2 liter bottle was the best at room temp...0 -
On the way out the door to
On the way out the door to infusion, I would set out V8 fusion for my husband so it would be at room temp when he gets home. That way he got some vegetables since he doesn't like to eat for the next few days. He also uses a straw to get the liquid to the back of his mouth. Recently he has had a taste for margarita mixer and is drinking it at room temp.0 -
Same issue
Between the temperature factor and the nausea it is a challenge.
I drink a lot of herbal tea and green tea. Also blue Gatorade (can't seem to get any of the others down). Warm apple cider. And I drink Isagenix shakes to get protein and other nutrients in - I mix in a banana with it usually.
First cycle I drank Tahitian Treat soda. This time I can't do it. I tried orange soda, but sweet things just aren't going well this time around. (And normally I eat very healthy and do not drink soda - but on chemo you get down whatever you can.)
I haven't tried it yet, but my dietician also suggested hot chocolate.
Also remember that "soft" liquids count too. Hot cereal counts as liquids - Cream of Rice, Cream of Wheat. Soups.
I normally drink a LOT of water. But I just can't choke down warm water.0 -

believe it or not - buzzard was the one with the sunkist orange soda, and it's the best at room temp - but there were also days where room temp was bad. I drank hot tea and apple cider - and they have it instant in the coffee/tea isle in the store! coffee was a complete turn off to me, even the smell while on chemo for the most part - but I did get hooked on dunkin donuts vanilla coffee (pricey and its a shame, but I still love it now).0 -
OceanSpray room temp pink
OceanSpray room temp pink grapefruit juice, lemonade, boost or ensure or whichever protein shake tastes good to you, hot tea & coffee. These are what works for me at the present. I've had 9 (10 Wed) Folfox 5-FU treatments out of 12 and can't hardly wait until this is over and I get put on more of a maintenance chemo and some of these side effects subside0 -
Drinks
Week on treatment: Warm water alot of the time. If the sugar is not an issue and need something with some flavor, then Caprisun drink packs work (great at room temp and you drink it through a straw), hot tea and coffee.
Off week: Could drink iced drinks, but have to ease into it. First few days always slowly through a straw, small amount, and leave it in your mouth a little while before swallowing. Towards the end of the off week I could drink cool drinks straight out of the glass.

Warm Drinks
After my mom's first round of modified Folfox 6 (which includes Oxaliplatin) she couldn't touch or drink anything cold. She said as soon as she sipped the cold liquid her tongue instantly felt mushy and it hurt. So I came on the board and was told warm drinks but nothing warm tasted good to her. Then Lisa42 (if I recall correctly) suggested Ensure warmed up with cinnamon. This was a great suggestion because my mom really needed the protein and vitamins that Ensure has but she didn't like it. She loves cinnamon. So I thought if I warmed the vanilla Ensure and 'doctored' it up with some cinnamon and whipped cream, it might work. Well, it worked wonders. She loved it. Even now, she's on round 8 this week, she still has days where she's not hungry and nothing tastes good. On those days the warm Ensure with cinnamon saves the day. Well, at the very least, it makes me feel better that she's getting some nutrition. It makes her feel better because she can tolerate it and it tastes good.
