Looks like the Mooperino and I were a little bit optimistic in our guess (our dear hope) that we would be headed home on Monday.

It now looks like Moopy's rads will be done on Wednesday. That's because the hyperthermia machine crapped out for three sessions last week, and Dr. Taylor is bound and determined that Moopy is going to get all the treatment she came up here for. Who are we to argue?

Moopy also had her first meeting with the Physical Therapist, Dr. Ivens, who specializes in helping mastectomy patients with all the issues that occur. It went extremely well, and Moopy was quite impressed with her both as a person and as a doctor. As Moopy says, we sure have the A Team up here. She has another physical therapy session Thursday morning, which will give us time to round up the pooches and take them back home.

If you ladies wouldn't mind, I would appreciate it if you would gang up on my beloved wife and belabor her into taking it easy this weekend. Moopsy always says she's going to relax and catch up on her rest, but somehow she really never does. She won't listen to me because I'm a guy and, more than that, her husband. But I hope she will listen to her fellow women.

Thanks in advance!
Joe

    Moopy,
    You need to listen to

    Moopy,
You need to listen to Joe. You are so near the finish line and you don't want to overdo. This would be the ideal weekend to kick back and totally relax. Give yourself the g i f t of complete down time. Besides you will be through with the treatment soon and back in the swing of your ordinary every day life soon enough. A year from now you will be kicking yourself that you didn't take some time to pamper yourself, to baby yourself, to be allowed to be a flake with no consequences. I say go for it. Give some good books, turn on the telly, sit in the comfy chair or better the big bed and let Joe wait on you hand and foot. Who knows when an offer like this might come along again. It will be good for you and it will be good for Joe. Because he loves you so much he wants only the best for you and he wants to see you well rested. So if you can't do it for yourself, do it for Joe. You have been through so much and been so strong but it does take its toil on us. If you get all this rest this weekend you will be super charged to complete your treatments and head home. So rest dear Moopy cause we're having a party when this is done and you have to be able to keep up.

    Ooooohhh!!!
This is my department!! I am the ultimate "rester"! Not to be confused with lazy or being a sloth! A women needs her beauty rest and needs to learn how to get more of it as there is not enough down time at night!! We women must pratice the fine art of delegating duties and fine tuning our bodies. By gosh, just look at all those beautiful painted pictures of women from centuries ago. How well rested do they look? Laid back on those Roman loungers, adored and being waited on!!
First of all, find your comfort spot. This is claimed by you and will be available 24/7 and must be relinquished by other users at your whim!
Second, find your comfort food. This must always be stocked and readily available for you.
Third, find your comfort pleasure. This may be a favorite show or movie to watch, music to listen to, scenery to view, a relaxing bath, a massage or closing the curtains and crawling into bed (sleep not neccessarily the goal!).
Last, we must learn to ask to be waited on! This may be accomplished by using the following phrases....."My goodness, I am exhausted and need nurishment. Honey, would you bring me a bowl of ice-creeam?"..."These treatments have taken the wind right out of my sail. Honey, would you mind massaging my aching muscles for me?"..."I wish I could just relax from all this stress. Honey, would you fix me a warm bath to soak in?"..."Gesh, my body is tired but my mind is racing. Honey, would you bring me my book I was reading?" (you get my point!).
We women must take charge and put our beauty rest at the top of the list!! Our bodies are precious and we must pamper them any chance we get!! We must choose to snooze!! Fellow women....unite!! Ummmm.....that means you too Moopy!! :(-) Pammy

Yep ... Moopy ... listen to Joe!
Moopy ... this is a weekend where you need to hold off on the retail therapy etc ... and just totally take it easy. As Stef said ... just read, watch TV etc. and let Joe wait on you. We can tell that he will do anything in the world for you ... so ... this is a weekend to let him do just that.

Rest Moopy ... and take care of yourself.

    big hugs.

Moopy, believe me (and Joe) you really do need to rest. I will rest with you OK? I don't know why we as women always think we have so much to do and sometimes it really is hard for us to leave a few things undone and just rest. But you have my permission, and Joe's along with all of our sisters here, so take advantage dear!! there will be plenty of time to catch up (slowly)
I hope you have a relaxing weekend, sleep and rest is what your body is begging for ..after all it has been through so very much in the last months. You are almost done!!! yeah!!
Thanks Joe for posting , and I got your back!

It is my latest goal in life to bring back zaftig, Rubenesque women as the Normal, Desirable, Sexy standard! No anorexics in those old classic works of art~ not even in the curvaceous stars/starlets of the 1940's and 50's! So, in order to advance that, we need to stretch out on a chaise lounge and be served bread and cheese with wine. Or ok~ ice cream!

    So sorry
for the road bump in your plans for celebration! That stinks, but Moopy's doctors sound very good.
Now Moops-you be a good girl and get your rest!! I know about not listening to our husbands. Mine says "How come you won't take my advice sometimes, but when your friends give you the same advice-you take it?"Don't know what to say about that!! Honestly though Moopster, you do need your rest so you can heal!

Ok, you made me post. I wasn't gonna. Moopy, you don't have to just lay there to rest. Get a good book you've been wanting to read. Then tell Joe all the new info you have that he doesn't. I found this book in my son's room and started to read it. It is called "Self-Discovery" by Vladimir Savchenko which is translated by Antonina Bouis. It's a science fiction. Don't have it finished yet. Who would give up the chance to read? Make Joe get you an interesting book.

P.S. Sometimes I buy a book when we go places and afterward it reminds me of that time. Maybe later in life you can say, "That is the time we went with the dogs for rads." On the inside cover write a little note to yourself, or Joe do it. Put the date also.

    You are the goddess

    Pammy,
You are the goddess of rest. I thought I had this all down but that was awesome. My hat is off to you. Questions that are actually commands. Gentle requests that must be done. Oh, you are good.
It made me remember when the doctor told me after my hysterectomy not to vacuum. I didn't ask for how long so I don't. It's been 9 years and my hubby is still pushing that vacuum around for him. He is either really wonderful (which he is) or really gullible (which he might be). Either way, it works for me.

I think I have a shrine to Antonina Bouis in my study. Just about everything written by a modern Russian that gets translated into English has "Translated by Antonina Bouis" on it. I've studied Russian for years (and even understood a fair amount of it between 2005 and 2007, when I took four trips to Russia), it is nothing at all like English. What impresses me about Bouis's work is how she is equally strong at translating poetry, fiction, history - you name it, she translates it. What an amazing woman!

    As always, dear Joe...
Thank you, so very much, for keeping us all thoroughly updated on dear Mooperino's progress and plans. Really - ALL good news! Thank goodness, and it's about time.

Mooperino (yet another nickname variation!?!) will completely finish her treatment. YAY! Reassuring. After all, that's the sole and entire reason you're there - living in a rental unit, pups included. Great news on the physical therapy front. Hoping Mooperino will soon get some relief from her discomfort.

    Again, Joe - thanks!

OK - the remainder of this post is to Mooperino:

REST, woman! Slowly try to savor your last weekend in St. Louis. No out-of-town company to entertain. No appointments over the next two whole days. Not leaving 'til Thursday - plenty of time to get ready for that starting Monday. Sleep in. Eat a leisurely breakfast. Laze around. Nap. Eat a leisurely lunch. Nap. Maybe go with Joe and the pups for a little walk (get some outside air). Return & nap. Eat a leisurely dinner. Watch a movie, read a book, whatever. Just so long as you're NOT moving around too much. Please. For you own sake, dear friend. :-)

Remember that since Joe has now enlisted our help to get you to take it easy - he'll be obligated to let us know if you, indeed, submit to our unanimous advice.

    Kind regards, Susan

P.S.: "Mooperino"?!? I'm still stymied. Vaguely Italian? Inspired by Mooperino's new hair color?

    Master and Margarita!
It's waiting in my pile to be reread. My 16 year-old is on a Russian writer kick (Dostoyevski...Brothers Karamazov, at the moment). We are also going to revisit War and Peace which we tried together when she was 13, but didn't manage to finish (she gave up because she had trouble with the patronymics ). I asked in an earlier post (and may have missed your reply - I've been away from home for 1 1/2 days)... What is a hyperthermia machine?

And this is for Moopy...I made the mistake of NOT resting during rads, and I paid for it for months and months. Your body has been through the mill. You are not being lazy, slothful, or any other related Thesaurus word. You are taking care of yourself. And you get to nap and read (or talk on the phone?). xoxoxo Lynn

    Moopy,
Your eyes are getting tired. Your head is feeling heavy. You must rest, you must rest. You must put your feet up and be waited on hand and foot by darling Joe. You must have your every need and whim catered to. You must relax in warm baths, rest in soft beds, sit in comfy chairs. You must not left a hand to do anything. You will awake from this, if you are lucky in months and months but at least not until after Wednesday.

Sorry about the delay in returning home. But it sure sounds like you have a great team of doctors!

Now, pleeeeeeeease kick back and just take it easy this weekend. (OMG, how I wish someone would tell me to do that!!)

Anyway, get your rest and just be a couch potato for a couple of days. Gotta recharge our batteries every now & then. Your sweet hubby thinks that the time to do that is now. So, listen to his good advice.

    Love ya!

    Okay Miss Moppy... it looks
Okay Miss Moppy... it looks like it's pretty much unanimous... looks like you might as well not fight it and just relinquish total control over to Aortus... okay well maybe not total control.. just over everything that you want him to do... so that you can sit with your feet up... slowly, leasurely pet one of those cute pups... eat ice cream... watch a favorite movie... tell Joe ladies choice...definately chick flicks...that should take care of tonight (Friday)... Saturday... no getting out of bed before 10am... at which time Joe can serve you breakfast in bed... okay maybe a little assuming here.. I figure he's such a good guy that he probably cooks... so it should work.. if not ... you can go with toast and cereal in bed... after breakfast you can do all the girly things we do to make ourselves feel better... then around 11 it can be a nice slow walk with the dogs... before it gets hot... fill the rest of the day.. reading, napping... you get the jest... you NEED REST WOMAN!!

Don't make all of us show up in St. Louis... It maynot be a pretty sight..

    What a novel!
I got to see Bulgakov's gravesite the first time I was in Moscow. The headstone was formed from a rock which once was part of Nikolai Gogol's grave. Which is pretty appropriate, because Bulgakov was a great admirer of Gogol. As am I: this coming semester I get to make my students read The Nose again. You and your daughter might enjoy it too: at very worst, it's much shorter than Brothers Karamazov or War and Peace.

The hyperthermia machine is used to heat a part of the body (in Moopy's case, the chest wall) to render the radiation more effective. The body part is maintained at a temperature of around 105 degrees for an hour either before or after the radiation treatment. Moopy has had both. Her only real complaint about the procedure has to do with the radiation therapists' interesting musical tastes. She theorized once that no cancer cell could possibly withstand the combination of radiation, hyperthermia, and Barry Manilow.
