Salad, anyone??? Come on over!
I am growing 3 types of lettuce, tomatoes, the non ending zucchini plus other varieties of squash, corn, both White and Indian (just like Reggie and me! LOL) a buncha of peppers, mild to hot, Italian parsley, chives, and basil. And of course, beautiful flowers. Right now, I am loving the heady scent of the night-blooming jasmine surrounding the house. Ahhhhh, Spring!
Hugs,

Claudia, you are a.......
Claudia, you are a HOOT! The corn thing!!
The days of my large veggie garden ended a few years ago. But I have a few roses, which I love!
Sadly, last year, my rose bed had just gotten going and everything there was beautiful & I got my dx. So, the poor things were neglected and I soon a had weeds the size of the roses.
This year, the tulips that are in the same bed had just finished blooming, and we were about to really get going with the clean up, and hubby is now out of commission for awhile.
Once he is home, I can make some progress in there, but I need to dig out some of the weeds now, because of their size. And when I dig, my arm gives me trouble afterwards. So, will work slowly on it.
The whole point of this long post is to say that.....I have some roses! LOL!

Good Morning Jackie!
So good to see your smiling face as I log on here! Your garden sounds great! You do plant a lot and to give away your "growings" is such a kind and wonderful gesture! We have a small vegetable garden compared to yours. My brother plants a huge one, so, I "take" from his. lol But, we do plant tomatoes, peppers and leaf lettuce. I usually have an abundance of tomatoes and peppers, so, I give them away. I have gotten to where I cut the peppers up into small pieces or small strips and put them in freezer bags for my friends to freeze for those winter chili's or w/e they want to use the peppers in. I usually write some "colorful" saying on the freezer bag so that when they take it out to use, it puts a smile on their face from my silly drawing or my silly saying. That is my goal in life you know, to put a smile on everyone's face.
I loveeeeeeeeeeeeeee flowers! We have a little over 3 acres here and I have flowers everywhere. The spring flowers have bloomed and the summer perennials are just starting to bloom. I am always buying more perennials and my husband just shakes his head and says " Now where are you going to plant that?" I just say.." I will find a place". And, I do. lol If I have to, I will just make another flower garden. lol I have posted a few pics on my Expressions Page to show just a couple of my gardens starting to bloom, so take a LQQK if you want. I will change the pics when they bloom fully this summer. They are beautiful!
Well, I didn't mean to write a book here..lol I would love to see pics of our lily's! Mine haven't bloomed yet. Have a great day Jackie enjoying your family and your gardens!

We just plant tomatoes, which we love! And, I usually have so many that I give gobs away. My Mom cans them, but, I have always seen that as wayyyyyyyyyyy tooooooooooo much trouble. lol But I admit, I enjoy the rewards of her canned tomatoes in the winter. So nice of you to share your canned veggies with your friends and family Jackie!0 -
Children planted....
My kids planted our garden this year. It was the first thing they have EVER done together as adults!! son (29) + daughter (25) planted tomatoes, 2 kinds peppers (reg + hot), oinions, and....opps can't remember. I just burned that moment into my memory... watching them dig the soil, plant, and put up the fencing while I relaxed with a glass of wine!! God, I love my children!! Pammy0 -

I have got so much going on here I can barely name all the plants...I put in a fence (Low maintainance hedge) last year and put in the backbone shrubs...It didn't look like much, This year I'm putting in the perennials and a few annuals ...Picked up loads of black mulch yesterday and I've been working on that today. I planted up the little 'hillock' behind the pond, rock garden style... Pachysandra near the bottom to trail into the water. Jungens, for effect and a huge clump of miscanthus zebra grass at the top for height. The front garden is FULL!!!!!!!!! At last...Today I decided to put in 2 new beds either side of the deck and plant up the urns to go at the bottom of the deck steps.
I am growing Moneymaker tomatoes from seed (sent over from good old Blighty) Marconi Rosso peppers, Marigolds, catmint, Chilean Glory vine (eccremocarpus), Canary Creeper (Tropaeoleum Caneriensis), Chinese bell vine (Rhodochiton a/sanguinium), Nicotiana sylvestris, Broccoli, Lettuce, Carrots, Courgettes, Runner Beans, black eyed susie (thunbergia), Love lies bleeding (Amaranthus cordatus) and last but not least ... Ophiapogon nigrescence...Black Grass.
I TOLD YOU not to get me started on plants.......I'm an international bore!
Hugs and happy gardening Jxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx0 -

Jake and I planted cukes and pumpkins in our little veggie garden and then we planted a bunch of flowers in his garden--marigolds and others--marigolds are what Jake calls "stinky flowers" which keeps the animals out from eating the rest of the other flowers.
Then in front of our front porch--more pumpkins and small flowers--heck only knows what they are--once they flower I might know.

My one and only tomato plant
My one and only tomato plant is in a pot up against the house. They promised me 60 frost free days here but they didn't say they would come all at once. Last year we had a July frost which set back the beans and tomatoes to a point I didn't get a chance to harvest cause they were so late. This year I bought 6 Romaine and 6 broccoli seedlings which I've had to cover (even last night). I also planted by seed, beets and spinach. Most of the flowers I have are perennials except for the petunias in front of the house and basket stuffers in a few pots. Some of the perennials are purple salvia, pink salvia, musk mallow, roses, blazing star, pinks, phlox, purple iris's, weeping crab apple, can't think of anymore off hand and sorry I don't know the Latin names. I really miss the moderate climate of the coast All of your gardens sound fabulous and don't be afraid to send some canned goods this way0 -

I have two tomato plants,
I have two tomato plants, and a fig tree. Last year I canned 87 jars of fig preserves.I have six left. My family and friends were overrun with fig preserves.
I have a nice flower bed and little garden pond that was over run with weeds. While I took a nap today my hubby weeded them for me.
I did not know that squash is good for fighting ca. No wonder my daughter is growing it and giving me alot.0 -

Great Idea Jackie!
How nice to use all home grown veggies for Susans Birthday!. Sounds like you have a green thumb! I have only a few veggies growing, some tomatoes in a hanging basket, and artichokes. But our backyard has two avocado trees, a lemon tree, two orange trees, a plum tree, pear tree, nectarine tree, and a peach tree. I also have bunches of roses, iris's daisies, geraniums, bleeding heart, and more, but my chemo brain is having a hard time remembering. Playing in the yard is one of my favorite things to do on the weekends, if I'm not working on a glass project. We don't have acres here though, it is just a bit larger that a normal city yard, but with all the hills, we have lots of areas for plants.
I usually bag up oranges, lemons, plums and avocados for the people at work, because we could never eat all that comes off the trees.

Warm welcome, jnl!jnl said:Hi everyone!
I just joined and saw this. It is nice to just see normal subjects and to get away from the big C convo for awhile. So, hi, I am Leeza. I only grow tomatoes, but, have my flowers too. I think that working in flowers is great therapy!
You found the perfect group, though sorry for the reason you're here. Yes, we wholeheartedly support and encourage each other all along the breast cancer journey. Yet, we do also enjoy the relief of fun!
I, too, am an avid gardener. I often refer to gardening as "holistic" therapy - good for the mind and the soul.
If you'd like, please feel free to start your own thread (topic of discussion) and introduce yourself to the entire group. You'll be welcomed that way by many, I can assure you.
Best wishes to you, Leeza.
Kind regards, Susan
P.S. TO JACKIE: Awesome idea for a thread! I can't wait to enjoy the bounties of your gardening efforts, come this December! :-)0 -

Glad you like my graphics Jackie! And, I hope your tomatoes look as good as the pic and even better. I love cherry tomatoes in salads. I usually grow one kind in a pot. Then when you go by it, you can just pluck one off and eat it!0
