Can you all tell me what type of anesthesia you used?  I am being given a choice of twlight or general anesthesia.  Both carry worries from my end.  Twlight I am afraid it will hurt (me and medical procedures do not get along)  GA and I am concerned about my heart palpatations and my obesity.  Let me know what your experiences were

I've had both types of sedation. My first colonoscopy years ago and the port insertion last year were done under twilight sedation.

Except for a brief moment, I was pretty much out for the colonoscopy.

I was awake during the whole port insertion process, but it was very quick and I didn't feel any pain since they had also given me a local anesthetic.

I've had general anesthesia for both my D&Cs, two most recent colonoscopies and hysterectomy.

I've had no problems with either form of anesthesia, despite being obese and having a naturally fast heart rate. When I have a choice, I prefer the general anesthesia since that ensures an anesthesiologist will be in the room during the procedure. This isn't always the case during twilight sedation where the doctor performing the procedure may also administer the sedation drugs.

I had Twilight all three times.  Never had a problem with it.  all of my D/C's were less than 1 hour long.  You should not worry.  As long as your EKG is okay, you are good to go.  Don't forget the Cytotec.  That was my main problem because of my closed cervix.

Clederman,  I am not overweight and other than having had cancer, I'm very healthy. I had to have an EKG and xray prior to my D&C too. Just wanted you to know that it is not uncommon for doctors to make sure all is well so that they can avoid any potential issues or at the very least, be prepared for possible problems.  While there is always a risk with surgery, they have come a long way in managing us while we are under.

Hi all,

D & C went fine.  Didn't feel any pain and even though I was terrified about anesthesia, I came out just fine.  She found a polyp and is 99% sure that was the cause of the bleeding.  She scraped the lining and I have an appointment Wednesday for the results.

Well I started bleeding again.  Terrified.  My pathology was clear but she did have one fibroid she could not get out.  Is it possible that even with clear pathology that the one she left behind could be cancerous?  Doc appt tomorrow

the procedure called myomectomy that could remove the fibroid in question and determine if it is benign (almost always) or not.
