My Patrick passed away today
Devoted husband of 31 years, loving father of our 2 children, great walker of our 2 dogs, and the very best friend that I could ever hope for. He fought this battle bravely for almost 3 years, and when he got knocked down, he dusted himself off, and kept fighting till the very end.
He was a hands on type of guy. He loved woodworking, gardening, refurbishing old cash registers, and weekly trips to Lowe's or Home Depot. DIY was his motto and he did it well. He didn't have much time for tv unless it was sports, especially our hometown Philadelphia teams. Drove a truck for the same company for 30 years and was a proud Teamster. One of 14 children (9 sisters/5 brothers) and lost 2 sisters and his father to cancer.
Pat wasn't much for technology. I made him get a cell phone when he returned to work about a year after his colon resection for just in case. He hated that little phone! Our computer only seemed to confuse him. And when I mentioned all the good folks on this board and would he like to join, he always put it off. But, I would read many a topic and responses to him and that was good enough for him.
How am I going to manage without him? We started dating when I was 16 and he was 18, got married when I was 22, have 2 wonderful children (now young adults) made a home and a life that suited us just fine. A very good balance for so many years. And now he is gone. I am so sad that my body seems unconnected and lost. I miss him.

Oh Ellen
If only words could take away your pain of the loss of your dear husband. I am so sorry that his life was cut too short and he had to leave you alone, but always remember how well he fought to remain with you.
I can only give you a virtual hug and send my love, I am so sorry.
