    My name is Toni and I've been told my whole life it is a 'boy' name. Last time I checked, I'm not one of those.

    I did get a call from my doctor and he got the biopsy back and confirmed that it is indeed anal cancer.... (big breath) So, now I just have to meet with him on Thurs and we will go over my plan of attack for kicking this thing in the butt. Going to stay positive here. Will let you all know what he says on Thur.

    I'm very sorry that you have gotten this diagnosis, but keep in mind that the treatment has a high success rate. I'm glad you are meeting with the doctor so quickly and hopefully, things will get underway very soon with your treatment. Please keep us posted. We are all here for you!

You have no idea (then again, I think you do) how much this means to me to have someplace to go where people have been through this and are so willing to help others through it. I will be keeping a positive attitude through this. After all I think they say you can do just about anything for a short time. And this will be a short time, as far as I am concerned. Just a 5-6 wk period out of my life to be cancer free. Or at least I think that is what it will be. Will keep you posted on what my doctor tells me Thur. afternoon. Thanks again! Hugs and prayers for you all.

    Like everyone else, I am sorry you have to be here, but grateful that you found this forum
    Many of us didn't have a forum to go to when we were first diagonosed. But then a wonderful woman named Joanne began this forum and what an incredible blessing it has been for us.

    We will help you through this. It's not an easy road by any means, but it is a curable form of cancer and that cannot be said for many kinds of cancer. The treatment period is comparatively short but challenging.

    Wishing you both the best, most of all strength and healing.

    Sorry to have any newcomers to this nasty disease... But, you will find tons of love and support from all of us here. I was 58 when diagnosed in June 2009. I am currently 2 years NED. Pattie, Matt, remember to keep a positive attitude and to laugh. As you read through these posts you will find so many scenarios about who gets what side effects, etc. We have all been through this. We will offer our stories and experiences as a means for you to cope with your own situations. Keep us posted with your progress. While I am glad for myself, and that I will hopefully continue to get good reports, my husband's cancer has returned. He was diagnosed in June 2008 with esophogeal cancer. He only had surgery, which took out about 8 inches of his esophagus and about a third of his stomach... then connected the remaining portions together, so that his stomach is now behind his lungs. He had many complications from the surgery. He was in intensive care from September 2008 to December 2008 and then in isolation with MRSA until the end of January 2009. His February 2012 scan showed multiple activity throughout his body... so far, after several PET and CAT scans, they still cannot locate the source of the cancer.... possibly, the bones so more scans and biopsies are needed. At this point surgery is not a good option for him... just chemo. Sorry to ramble on... but, this is the place to vent, ask questions, and receive loads of support.
    I wish both of you good health and an easy journey through the treatments. Keep the faith and God Bless.

    Five years out....
    I just had my CT scan and I'm still clear and in my 5th year. The doctor said that statistically, I'm cured! But I will continue to be vigilant with my health. All the best to you - keep coming back to this site with questions and concerns - it's a great support group. You'll learn the little tricks that the medical staff may not know to tell you.

    Thank you for the warm welcome Captain11. I did see my Dr. yesterday and we talked a bit, but he was not able to give me too many answers because I need to ask the oncologist those questions. But he did answer any questions he could. I did find out the reason that I have been in such pain is that the cancer is laying right on top of my muscle down there so that is where the pain is coming in. After my Dr. appt with the VA I had a call waiting at home from the oncologist so I called back and have an appt. Mon afternoon to see him. Want to get this thing started and over with as soon as possible. I did find out that the VA works hand in hand with University Medical Center here in Tucson and thats where I will have my radiation.
    Captain11 I will be praying for your continued success and for your husbands health to improve and I hope they can find the source and nip it in the bud.
    I suppose I should start a thread for myself and my process/progress instead of keeping posting on this one. I thank you all for your suggestions, love and support.
