Diagnosed in January of 2011 at 44. (for some odd reason I thought 45, but did the math and as I am currently 45, well, I couldn't exactly have been diagnosed over a year ago and still be the same age.) Besides if there was an age I'd want to freeze at, it wouldn't be 45. lol
Finished treatments April 12, 2011. (One year out now and everything so far has come back with no cancer evident.)0 -

Hi. I'm new here, but thought I'd chime in on the age question. I was diagnosed last week at the age of 64.0 -

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but at least now you know and it won't be silently growing.
I remember freaking out the first week. Even had to stop coffee because I was too wired.
Then after that, just got used to the idea and dealt with it.
Hope you are ok emotionally. It's good that you found this forum.

I finished treatment 2/16/11.
Last day of radiation was Oct 20th 2010, one of the happiest days of my life walking away from that radiation machine and hoping never to see her again. 2 weeks ago I had colonoscopy, CAT scan and blood work and 100% cancer free! Still dealing with a fissure from the radiation and a few other side effects but with time they should go away.0 -

I'm 59 and was told of my diagnosis on March 29th. It was discovered during a routine colonoscopy on March 9th. The oncologist I was sent to spent most of the consultation trying to convince me that I had to be HIV. I fired him and now have a team that truly understands this particular cancer. I had the lesion excised on April 10th. I am Stage I, Grade 2. I was hoping to start the five weeks of chemo/radiation today but got put off by the surgeon who wants the excision to heal more. I see her tomorrow and hope to get the OK to start treatment on Monday, May 7th. I appreciate finding this site and know that every case is different but reading through the threads I certainly appreciate the advice from those who have gone before me.0 -

Sorry you have a reason to join us here, but glad you are finding good info and support on this site. The experience you had with that first doctor is unfortunate--there are a lot of doctors who are uninformed when it comes to anal cancer. I'm glad you are now in good hands and I hope you'll be able to get underway with the treatment on the 7th. Please let us know how it goes and come here if you have any questions that we can answer. We've all been there, done that, so there's lots of wisdom here. I wish you all the best.0
