I replied to your message! No big party; my husband & I spent "grateful time" together! I was given the diagnosis on a friday, our daughter graduated from high school the next day, & our son got married the day after that. It was one heck of a weekend, I tell you!

    Wow!!
What a weekend! Well congrats on all counts.

    Age at Diagnosis
I was 63, am now almost 7 years out of treatment, due for follow up colonoscopy this month, only long term after affect of radiation is vaginal stenosis? My advice to anyone going into treatment is to be sure and ask your onocologist about dialators, mine didn't mention it until afterwards.

you are the longest post treatment
I believe you have the most history of any who have posted since I first signed on. It's great to hear from a 7 year survivor. Thanks for posting.I told my radiologist how important that he gave me a dialator was according to these posts. We need to really let our doctors know. It seems like no one could look me in the eye when they gave me the dialator and they didn't mention it very often. I am like - "this is really important!" to them and they think I am funny but they are happy it is part of the protocol for us at MSK.

    All the best,
    Sandy

    Wow
You must have felt numb. Did you let your daughter and son know right away, or wait to tell them? Just curious. All the best!

I was diagnosed at 61, May 5, 2011. My last tx was August 15th. My scans are all clear. At the time of diagnosis, I was very symptomatic with a lot of pain down my right leg, which I still have but the pain is managed by Lyrica now and it is not caused by cancer but from scar tissue which can be inflaming area with nerve related response. I was T2N1 with the tumor located South or 6:00. I think we here have sometimes slightly different symptoms based on the location of the tumor. For example I did not have the vaginal and urinary tract pain others had during treatment. Anyway, how many people can say they are feeling better this year than last at my age and expect to feel better than this next year? Yippeeee! Congratulations on your diagnosis. You are on your way to full and complete recovery. Word to the wise, it takes time, so try to be patient. Patience is not a virtue I come by easily.

    Diagnosed on the same day
I too was diagnosed on May 5, 2011.

I guess this is as good a place as any to introduce myself. My name is Matt, and I just joined CSN this morning. I received my cancer diagnosis last week at the age of 51 years. It was a blow, but I'm going to stand up, brush myself off and keep going. I have always lived by the immortal words of Nietzsche: "That which does not kill me makes me stronger." I see no reason to stop now.

So far the only treatment I have received has been surgical excision, and my doctors are optimistic that I won't need radiation or chemo.

    Hi Matt--
I always hate to see newbies here--one more person with this crappy diagnosis. However, if you can be rid of this with total excision only, that's great. I wish you all the best and hope you'll keep us posted on how things are going.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I believe that the most effective treatment for any disease is to keep a sense of humor about you and surround yourself with friends. I am blessed with a very strong support network.

I know what you mean about hating to welcome newbies. As a person with AIDS as well, I am active in a local group called The Aliveness Project where I've also been able to connect with others who have been diagnosed with the same cancer I have. There, too, I hate welcoming new members.

Nobody has really talked about "staging" with me yet, though I suspect the answer will be Stage I or in situ, since they're not talking radiation and/or chemo yet. As I learn more I hope to be able to use CSN as a resource to learn more.

Thanks again for the warm welcome. I feel I am truly among friends.

    Hi MattButts
Hi and welcome to the group. Like everyone, I'm sorry you have to be here - but it's nice to meet you.
Have to ask - that's not your real last name, right? Just kidding - with us, our butts are the focus of a lot of attention.
Now this is a funny kind of congratulations, but congratulations on not needing radiation or chemo. I'm glad that it was found prior to being a stage where you need the radiation and chemo - there are so many side effects you won't need to deal with. And I imagine having AIDS as well, you've know your share of doctors, treatments, and all that goes with them.
Again, welcome and I wish you good health and happiness always.

Hi everyone. Age 53 here. This past Friday I was getting ready to have a thrombosed blood clot removed and the doctor got in there and saw some things that told him that was not what it was. He is 99% sure it is anal cancer and should have the biopsies back this coming week. I have an appt. with him on Thur. to discuss chemo and radiation for it. A bit scared, but keeping a positive outlook that I shall overcome this too. Glad I found this group. I don't know anyone else who has had this and will be nice to come here and found out what I am in for and also to celebrate with you all when I get done with treatment.
    Thanks for you time.

Really do hate welcoming new people here. This cancer is indeed a pain in the butt. Yes, a sense of humor helped get me thru; helps get a lot of us thru. MattButts, I hope they caught this early enough to avoid chemo/radiation, & Pattie13, I pray the docs don't find it to be cancer. BUT there are enough people here to help answer questions, & guide you if need be. Thinking of ya'll with positive thoughts, & healing energy.

Thanks so much Mohoper. I am praying too, but he seemed pretty certain. I will come back on Thur. afternoon and let you all know the results. Thinking and praying for all of you for continued healing.

Yes, that is really my name.
And you can imagine I was teased incessantly as a child.
