OT: How Are You Trying To Enjoy Fall?

Another change of seasons and I cannot believe summer is gone and we are well into Aumtun now. Just wondered what every one likes to do and what they look forward to doing in fall and what you have been doing to have a little fun and try to enjoy life's moments.

I realize we are all in various stages of treatment and recovery, but thought maybe it would be fun and inspiring to share these things.

I am looking forward to some apple picking.

There is an Apple Festival at church on Saturday.

I had fun at a Pet Halloween Costume Contest and Nizzy won 2nd prize with his costume. He was the horse and he had the Headless Horseman on his back.

I also went to The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire. There are three pix of me in costume and with my friend on my expressions page or if you would like to see a bunch, you can use this link:

So what do you enjoy about fall?

Sweet, You get to see the seasons change. I do love fall at school and will miss that again this year. Fresh, fall leaves--the grandsons love to help grandpa, so. . . I might show them how to jump in the pile of leaves after they have raked! Starting to go through the closet, winter will be upon us and I will need to have the clothes ready, layers. I remember last year that eggnog tasted so good, keep checking but not in the market yet. Hopefully we will be able to take the boys to the pumpkin patch, we have a great one out in the country that is more social studies and science--I am not a fan of Halloween. Did put pumpkin scent in my Scentsy flameless candle.
You have been busy, hopefully you are feeling better.

Love the pics. My daughter used to go to the Ren Faire, I remember making clothing. Many patterns online for the Ren Faire challenged mother!

Hey Sweetblood, the season activity check is a great idea! It sounds like you are having a lot of fun. Down here in S FL, there is not much of a leaf change, except in the swamp where the cypress do lose their leaves, but not so colorfully. Now that autum is here the mosquitos have gone, so it's safe to hike without worrying about being carried away. So, I'm looking forward to hiking and camping in Big Cypress as much as possible. Happy Autum all!

    Florida Fall...
LOL, Dawn fall in Florida (at least south of Central Florida) might last all of three weeks...if we are lucky.

It goes by so fast, very hot and humid, to nice for those few weeks with lower temps and low to no humdity. Straight to cold (for us Floridians) at low 60's during the days to 30 - 40's at night, LOL.... Then an occasional 30 - 40 days and 20's to teens at night.

We have had our first few cool days, hot again this week...but those first few days is the signal that fall is on it's way for us.

During the fall, fishing gets really nice, LOL....winter is for sea trout and speckled perch (crappie)....

Floridians can't wait for winter, then after about 3 - 4 days, we can't stand the cold any longer, LOL....

We can run our AC during the day and fireplace at night...all in the same 24 hour period, LOL...

Yes, I guess I am 'lucky' that I get the change of seasons.
Except I hate snow and winter! And John, don't be picking on me, that you live in Florida. I know Shelley loves fall! Even if it's not the same down south as it is up here. :)

Raking and playing in the leaves sounds like great fun to me! I used to love doing that as a kid. We have a good pumpkin farm here too, but idk if there are any pumpkins because of the flood we had. I am betting that his fields got flooded.

Halloween was always a favorite holiday of mine. I used to have a lot of costume parties and love Halloween decorations. Not a fan of eggnog tho! Different strokes. :)

I finally found the Pumpkin Spice creamer I like. It's even good in tea!

For my scent in the house, I bought Bath and Body Fig & Acorn. I'm loving the fragrance.

I've been a little busy. Trying to keep my mind off worrying. :)

I've made a couple of skirts. I really wish I knew how to sew though. Costume pieces are expensive. I love any excuse to dress up. Lol

I don't even want to go there with you guys in Florida and what you think is cold. Course I have it good compared to other places too. They think I'm being silly when I say Its freezing when it's below zero here and I only have a foot of snow.

I love Florida in October. Was always my favorite time of year to go to WDW.

    No Mosquitos
I hate those things! You know, my last name is literally means 'sweet blood'. I can be outside and not one person will have a mosquito bite, and I will be chewed to a pulp. :-/ Apparently the Mosquitos think that sweet blood is tasty.

Growing up on Staten Island, idk if the worlds largest garbage dump made the Mosquitos mutant or what. God knows what toxic crud is in that dump, but I swear the Mosquitos were the size of sparrows.

    Have a great time hiking!

    Damn Yankees & Mosquitos
LOL, you know we are both damn yankees (a yankee that comes to Florida, and stays).

We both love the fall and me growing up in Ohio, and like you, it was a great time...burning leaves, crisp fall air, Friday night high school football (I lived in a very small safe town), LOL...

BTW, you know the State Bird of Florida is the Mosquito....that's because they are so big here...

love October and November in Florida
This is the best time to camp and fish in central Florida, I wish Jim was stronger so we could go but it will come in time. One thing I do not like is raking the leaves. Yuk! We have a big Sicamore in the back and it sheds leaves for six months, at least it seems as if it does. It is going down this Spring.

I too loved Holloween. Especially when I was in Cedar Key. They would bring the kids from the mainland by the truck trailer aand truck load. I love seeing the little ones dressed up. In my younger days I dressed up for Holloween but my husband isn't into that so haven't done much since my 30's.

My hope for fall is that those who are recovering from recent treatment are at least able to enjoy some pumkin pie.

    State Bird
Lmbo. I guess I should be happy that's not our state bird. I think ours is the grouse. Lol.

Yes, Friday night football is big entertainment here too. Not much else to do in these cornfield towns.

    Pumpkin pie.
I have never liked pumpkin pie. It's a textural thing for me. Makes me gaggy. TMI.

I do however, after treatment, now like pumpkin roll and pumpkin whooppie pies. Mmmmmm.

    Skeeter Key
LOL, when we lived in Gainesville and would go to Cedar Key on the week-ends back several years ago...

My then little boy JP, had been targeted for some of his sweet blood by those pesky mosquitos. He thought the name of the place was "Skeeter Key, LOL...for real he did.

So from then on, we always referred to it as "Skeeter Key", LOL.

Dawn, actually as you probably know, the State Bird for Florida is the Mockingbird.

Debbie, did you live in Cedar Key...back 25 years ago or so (mentioned above), we were good friends with Bill that ran the Cedar Key Inn I believe...It was the hotel that you would have ran straight through into the bay if you didn't make the turn from the main road (left to the pier area)..before the big gray townhouses were built.

    Faire
Did you enjoy the Renaissance Faire? We've seen the ads for it, but not sure if it is worth checking out. We live in southern NJ so it's not too far from us.

    As for fun Fall things:

    1) going to Washington's Crossing State Park to hike and look at fall colors
    2) going pumpkin hunting with the grandkids and then helping to carve their pumpkins

Great idea! Let's us all focus on something else for a change.

    enjoying the fall
since I live in Ohio, I get to see the leaves turn color. I love fall but detest the cold winters.
I was thinking back to last year and how after each day of radiation I would go back to my friends's home where I was living and take their dog for a walk. I am an amateur photographer and took my camera with me on those walks and got alot of photos of the colorful trees in their neighborhood. This year, I am home in my very own house with my own colorful trees; what a treat!
I bake biscotti for the holidays as gifts and to sell so this is the time for me to start that. I truly missed doing that last year. I am lucky to feel good enough now to not only bake again but to be able to eat my own biscotti!
And I love rock n roll and October for me is Rockober! I am heading to Cleveland the end of the month to see Sharon Jones and the Daptones, my friends band next weekend in Columbus and then the first Saturday of November back to Cleveland for the American Music Masters show where this year they will honor the music of Aretha Franklin...
And I guess what I enjoy the most is just that it isn't last fall when my cancer was found and my treatments started.
For those of you that are new and just starting treatments....each day can seem like it lasts forever but the year WILL fly by.....

    Polaris
The last time I was at Columbus, we stayed in Polaris...I really like that area.

Speaking of leaves, last October we visited my neice and relatives in Cleveland, Mansfield and Akron...

We got there tha latter part of October and the leaves were in full color.

It made me really miss Ohio and my roots....then it got cold with the wind coming across the Lake....I about froze to death after being in Florida for 30 years...LOL.

Actually, I didn't know that. I knew it wasn't a big skeeter though. Lol. If I had to guess the Florida state bird, Id've guessed flamingo. Lol

Yes, I love the Faire. It was my 16th year going. :) I like that sort of thing though. Huge science fiction fantasy geek and my favorite movies are like, The Princess Bride, Lord Of The Rings, and Braveheart... I love getting dressed up. You kind of have to like that sort of thing and be open to having a good time. Which I always am, where ever I go. It's not an inexpensive day out though. A lot of times, you can find coupons at Burger King. We got $6 off for going on a Sunday with that coupon. I think labor day, is always a deal like buy one get one ticket free or something. This one in Manheim, is the biggest and best Faire I've been to.

I've not carved a pumpkin in a few years. Maybe I will do that this year. Sounds like a good idea. I heard today on Martha Stewart, that if you want to keep the pumpkin fresher and less likely to shrivel quickly, that you should put Vaseline on the cut outs.

This is what I would like
5 days of winter, and I only have to drive if I want to.
2 months of 70 degree autumn
2 months of 60-70 degree spring, with no deers eating my flowers.
all the rest 70-80 degree summer without humidity or forest fires.

I'm not asking too much am I?
