Welcome to the board.
I bought lovely scarves from www.cjhats.com. They are made by a bc survivor and they are reasonably priced and lovely. She also has some great hats on her site.
Also, contact your closest American Cancer Society, as they have wigs available at no cost.

We are going out to a movie tonight, then going out for dinner! Made reservations at a steak house that we love! Can't wait!
Tomorrow we are probably just working outside in the yard together. Well, he will probably be in the hammock. lol

Last night was our local survivors celebration at the zoo here. Very awesome to see the hundreds, yes hundreds, of folks who are treated at the cancer center here. We had hotdogs, ice cream and snacks. Got to ride the train and the carousal. And the zoo was closed to the public and only open to us. I saw many people I knew from the center. And also many people I knew just as neighbors or church folks who I had never known had cancer. It is so humbling to see all of these people. At first I was not wanting to go because it always moves me to tears. But I went and will continue to go in honor of my parents, both gone from cancer. I know my Mom would be pushing me out and saying be proud, you survived the fight! So I will continue to go.
Sunday I will get my commission as an Extraordinary Minister at my church. What this means is that I will be able to take communion..I am Catholic...to anyone in a hospital, nursing home, or shut in who desires to receive communion. This is truly an honor for me, and I will probably get misty eyes there as well. And our local casino has sent out vouchers to all the locals to come by and match their voucher numbers for cash. Maybe I will be one of the lucky ones who wins $10 grand..they are giving away five of those!
I will also be resting up Sunday. On Monday I get to fulfill another of my longtime dreams....I get to help paint a Habitat for Humanity home here. I am excited to be able to do this. When I think of how much has gone on in my life these past 2 years, I am so in awe of the fact that I can get up and get going and do things. Yes I get tired, and after being on my feet for an hour, my legs just automatically walk withour much feeling. But it will not stop me. I feel so lucky to be here. So lucky to be alive that I just want to help wherever I can.

Well, I'd be the first to admit that our marriage isn't perfect -- we are both difficult to live with -- but this was so romantically out in left field for him to do, that I was really, really touched (still am).
So...after walking the dogs, Xiaoxiao's violin lesson, some easy gardening, and hopefully a nap, we're going to renew our vows and go out to dinner with Xiaoxiao, and Susie. After that...probably a good night's sleep. I am still sore and weak from surgery, so anything more romantic than gentle hugs and a kiss is out for me!
But Rich said he wanted to do something special, after the last few months and the surgery, to show me how much he cares. Awwwwwwwwwwwww. I guess he's pretty special after all is said and done.
(I just wish I had the body I had the first time around.)

Was at the hospital this morning and hubby seems to be doing a bit better. very good news!
But, I am so excited, because I got to go and see our new puppy girl this afternoon! She is still very young, but she is just beautiful!
She won't be coming home until July, but that will coincide beautifully (I hope) with hubby's activity level increasing. So he will be official puppy walker!

Sskene, I know it may be hard, but don't worry too much about the hair loss, it will happen, but we all have gone through it and we survived even if we thought we wouldn't. I usually went au naturale (sp?), but if my head got cold, I did have a couple of little knit hats I would put on. You do whatever makes you feel most comfortable, and welcome to our big giant happy family!

I went to Relay for Life last night (Fri) - it was incredible and awe-inspiring. I also got to re-connect with one of my best friends from elementary school who is also a survivor. She is just ending her treatment, while I begin mine! A new great resource for me!
Today, I am trying to write a paper for grad school. Am I crazy to be pursuing my Masters Degree while undergoing treatment? Feedback please!

I started my 2nd MA not long after treatment and I didn't think I would make it through the semester, but I was told by my dept head that I could take a leave without penalty if necessary. My feeling, if you want to give it try--go for it. If you run into a challenge, your school will probably offer you leave w/o penalty option, too.
I'm taking my time going through, one class at a time, that's enough for me while I work full-time, spend time with my daughter who may soon be leaving the state upon graduation from college, care for my hubby, and volunteer with my newly certified therapy dog. You may choose to take only one class at time for now and just take one day at a time as you gain your health back. That's really all you can ask of yourself.

My family thought that I should drop my classes until this was all behind me, I also work full time... but there was no way NO WAY I was going to let this beast stand in the way of me pursuing my dream.. hang in there and if it comes to it you can take a withdrawl without penalty.

Friday was Bert's day off, so after radiation we had a lovely lunch. All the children and grandchildren came over yesterday, so I cooked a buffet lunch and everyone had a fun afternoon swimming. In the evening, I tried out a new curry recipe..relly good. Today is just for us. Berthas gone for a walk with his new backpack...getting ready for 2 hikes this summer and then we will just mess around the yard and relax. Maybe dinner out tonight.

May I use you as my personal poster child to encourage my students to stay in school and pursue their dreams? I tell my story (divorce, near fatal car accident, re-marraige [I leave out the two-year custody battle and losing my daughter for 1.5 years when I was accused of trying to commit suicide when I hit black ice on Nov 24th, 1996 with my young daughter in the car!],cancer, MA-almost-times-2,...) but it would be great to tell another story. I love to hear the success stories.
Now, off to my gardens. I truly love you gals. Wishing everyone a wonderful day. The sky is blue and my flowers are calling me.

dmc.. absolutely... I raised my children with the knowledge that we can achieve anything that we want to achieve.. as long as we set our minds to it, I truly believe that if you can dream it you can achieve it.
Trust me.. I was a single mom for 13 years, and starting out when they were one and two with just a 9th grade education did not make the road very easy. I remember lieing on my resume to land my first job after my divorce.. Then worked very long hours working numbers backwards to figure out how numbers were figured out on a report. (It was a full time bookkeeping job)..I had to scratch and claw to the place I am now.
I always said after my children received their chance for college.. that it would be my turn.. I am hoping that I can graduate with my daughter.. I think a cap and gown together would be just perfect! It's hard work... and I couldn't do it without all the support of my hubby!

For Tricia and Trisha and all the others in school...I also was one year into night school before the beast visited. Last year three surgeries and radiation couldn't keep me away. This December I get my Associate degree in Medical Transcription. I had to take a lot of stuff including computer technology, which was challenging to say the least. In January of 2010 I start on my certificate in human resources. I figure as long as I keep busy and focus on something else, the better off I will be. To all of you, especially the ladies with families, you guys deserve big hands for doing it. It is a lot to go through and concentrate on everything else. Thanks for the inspiration.
