Hi Everyone: I just wanted to let everyone know my Tremendous and Wonderful Feat that I am now 5 years cancer free! I was originally diagnosed in February of 2011 with Stage 1 of UPSC and I never had a reoccurrence. I am so thrilled and happy that I made it to my 5 year mark. I plan on going out to dinner in the next few days to celebrate with my family for a delicious steak dinner from a gift card I had received during the holiday season to Outback Steak Restaurant in our area. I saw my oncologist for my 6 month visit and now I am officially 5 years cancer free and Disease free! He does want me to have a cat scan and I will have that done in the next few months as well as my blood work beforehand, but otherwise, I go back and see my oncologist in another year. My oncologist who is well known in the PA area is semi retired and works out of his office one day a week. I do plan to check on the CSN Board to see how everyone is doing on the UPSC Board from time to time. I am so saddened though to hear of those women who have lost their fight with UPSC and other uterine types of cancer as I have known quite a few of the women who have passed away from this horrible cancer through the uterine board. I feel very blessed, fortunate and happy that I have survived and made it to my 5 year mark from UPSC for which I am very, very grateful. I am grateful to my oncologist, the nurses that gave me the chemo and my gyn who has since retired. I live in PA in a suburb. I feel as though I have been given a second chance at life. I am very grateful for each and every day that I have. I also have lost close to 70 lbs over this past year from a Minor Ischemic Stroke I had in May of 2015 and arrived at the hospital very quickly so I have No debilitating symptoms from my stroke -and that is my 3rd chance at life. I also went through recent Gall Bladder surgery in February as I was sick with No appetite for close to 6 months. I am now just gradually getting my appetite back from the gallbladder and that was a horrible thing to go through since October of 2015 up through the end of March with No Appetite. I had laparoscopic surgery in early February and I do feel so much better now. I also have a lot more energy each day as well. I wish all of you women very well with your fight with UPSC - just do whatever you can and live and enjoy each and every day to the fullest. Cheerful a/k/a Jane

Re: Thanks for your wishes!
Hi Cindi:
Thanks for your wishes for reaching my 5 year mark. I greatly appreciate it. I did look at your profile. I was 59 1/2 when I was diagnosed in Feb of 2011. I am now 64 years old and will reach 65 in July a big milestone year. I live in PA a small suburb. I do have 2 first cousins that live in FL one in Fort Myers an my other cousin lives in Clermont, FL not far from Disney World.
I noticed that you are also Stage 1 and you do have a very high chance of getting through our cancer and making it to the 5 year mark. My radiation doctor told me when I started the journey in the summer of 2011 that I had a 90% chance of survival which is very, very high, (I also had 3 brachytherapy treatments) so you should also do extremely well. Just watch what you eat and go for walks. Going for walks and my eating habits are what made me to lose the weight plus going through the Ischemic stroke I had my surgeon last year said to me to lose the weight, so I took him seriously, went for walks every day, watched what I ate and I lost 40 lbs from June to October. Then I got gallbladder problems and lost an additional 25 lbs. I am very thin now and do feel so much better. It is better for my heart also as I was diagnosed with atrial fibrilation along with the stroke. I am on medication for my stroke and the A-fib.
Again, Cindi, thanks for your wishes and I really do appreciate it.

Hi Moli:
Thanks for your e-mail and I do hope my cancer Never returns. I have done everything to eat better, take walks and have lost close to 70 lbs. I do have a lot more energy and feel stronger on a daily basis. I do credit my son who also lost over 100 lbs to my better eating habits.
I just got over recent gallbladder surgery and lost my appetite for almost 6 months. It was a hard time to get through, but the surgery is now 2 1/2 months behind me and I finally have my appetite back so I am eating much better now.

Jane, I am very happy for you and your son,
excess weight causes every little ill to multiply. Great for the determination you both showed.Your posts tells us all that we too can do right by trying to fix the things we have power over.
I too lost the weight and happy, now embarking on body pruning to pick up the slacks (if you know what I mean)LOL
I am having surgery soon ,and hoping that they will take out my gall bladder,as I have 2 stones but no symptom, no pain, I am afraid to leave them behind only to go through another surgery, we'll see.

Hi Hopeful:
Thanks for responding. You should be able to get through the 5 years with hopefully No reoccurrence. I know I was always worried when I saw my oncologist for the visits every 6 months and hoped for good news which I always had. My oncologist had mentioned to me from the beginning that he felt I would survive the cancer since I also had Stage 1.
I did read that anyone with Stage 1 of UPSC has a 94% chance of surviving which is very, very high. Also, my radiologist had told me when I was going through brachytherapy treatments that I had a 90% chance of surviving which is very high also so you do have a lot to be grateful and thankful for and look forward to a future. We are both very fortunate and blessed to have caught our cancer early.
I still plan on being on the website and looking at e-mails from the women on the Board. The women on the Board are great and I do have a couple of friends here that I am very close with.

Hi Helen:
Thanks for your good wishes. Yes, your right, it was a long road, so glad this is all behind me. I have lost about 70 lbs. I feel so much better and stronger. I also credit my son who is now in his early 20s with helping me to have better eating habits. My son lost over 100 lbs also. The 5 years really went by quick. As you know, we all went through so much with getting the diagnosis and then going through chemo treatments. I am now 64 and will turn 65 in July.
I do hope Helen that you are doing as well as can be expected.
I plan to still be on the website and looking at e-mails from everyone. The women here are great and I have made a couple of really good friends from the Board.

Hi Kathy:
Thanks for responding and wishing me the best for my reaching 5 years and for the future. I am very fortunate and blessed that I am one of the "lucky ones" as you mentioned that have survived our rare and aggressive cancer.
I sadly, know of a few women on the Board that have passed away from our cancer that I became friends with on the Board. I think of them from time to time and also met a woman at the cancer center where I had undergone chemo and she passed away over 2 years ago from peritoneal cancer. She had Stage 4 of her cancer. When she passed away, I was so sad of hear of her passing at such a young age of 63. My friend also lost some of her family members to cancers of different types over the years so my heart feels for losing her and I do miss her and her friendship. I think of her from time to time.
I also lost my first cousin to brain cancer at the end of 2012 and I lost one of my best friends to a brain tumor near the end of 2014. I miss both of them and think of them both from time to time.
I do feel very lucky as I mentioned. I also have 2 first cousins that survived their cancers from a few years ago so I know they feel lucky as well.

Great news, Jane!
Congratulations! I think it is safe to say that you no longer need to keep looking over your shoulder wondering what will happen next. Enjoy each and every day and your "3rd" chance at life! It is so encouraging to hear such wonderful news. I am 2.5 years NED out from surgery and feel great. Exercise really does make a difference in how we feel. Losing 70 lbs is quite an accomplishment and one you should be proud of.

Re: Thanks for responding!
Hi Cathy:
Thanks for responding and wishing me well for my accomplishment on my 5 year mark. You only have another 2 1/2 years to go through and that's great that you feel so good. I lost nearly 70 lbs. from a Transient Ischemic Stroke I had last May. I had NO residual effects from the stroke and am doing well. I walked every day for several months plus I cut back on my sodium and I have to be on a limited amount of how much sodium I can have in one day with having gone through the stroke. The normal person can have between 2,000 to 2,500 milligrams of sodium in a day, but with a heart attack or a stroke you can have up to 1,500 milligrams of sodium in a day.
However, I am feeling stronger, better and a lot healthier plus I have lost a few sizes in clothing. Plus I watched what I have been eating over the last 5 years as I started to eat so much better and my son also lost 120 lbs from bike riding and watching what he eats so I attribute my good eating habits with his advice and help and determination on my own to lose the weight and to eat healthier and better.
I also lost some weight since I had my gall bladder removed in early February as I had No appetite since I needed to have my gallbladder removed. Now just about 3 months later I am eating much better now and have my appetite back thankfully.
I do feel very "blessed and fortunate" that I have survived the 5 year mark and especially with No reoccurrence.
Again, thanks for your wishes.

Thanks for your e-mail your your wishes. I really appreciate it. I have lost a lot of weight over this past year and am now down 2 to 3 sizes from what I used to be the last several years. I am endometrial clear cell IIIC, so it's not the best diagnosis, but I am remaining positive. I have had surgery, 5 weeks of external radiation, 3 brachy, and will have my 5th out of 6 chemos. I have been functunating pretty well so far, but I'm anxious for chemo to end. Once again I'm so happy for you!

Hi Soup 52:
Thanks for getting back to me regarding your diagnosis. Yes, do continue to remain positive and have good thoughts. I know chemo is hard to get through, I did well through it although I lost my appetite a little as I had 2 meals a day going through chemo 5 years ago from day 2 through day 6 after chemo and then I was able to have 3 meals a day afterward. I had 6 chemo treatments. That's good though you are doing well going through chemo. I wish you all the best.
Also, thanks for your wishes. Just listen to what your oncologist says and follow his guidelines. I will say some prayes for you and do keep in touch with me on the board as I look on the board frequently.

Hi!
Thanks for responding and your great wishes in my reaching my 5 year mark from Stage 1 of UPSC cancer as I was originally diagnosed in February of 2011 with UPSC. I am very grateful and thankful that I have remained with No evidence of disease for the past 5 years. I do want to wish you all the best in your cancer journey. I do not post often on the board, but I will plan on continuing to look at the website. I still have to go for a cat scan and blood work and will do so in the next couple of months.

Sorry I missed your post! Must have been when I "ran away" for a while! As another one with UPSC (1a,grade 3)I always rejoice when I hear of another five year survivor! I passed five years in Oct. and while I was over-joyed, it was a little scary! What DO I do with no checkups for a whole year, why, have another open heart surgery! LOL! Keep sticking your head in and all the best of luck always! Best, Debra

RE: Thanks DebraJo for your e-mail and responding!
Hi DebraJo:
Thanks for responding to my 5 year mark and I really appreciate it. It is a big relief to me that I am disease free. My oncologist wants me to go for a cat scan and blood work which I will have done in the next couple of months. I turn 65 in July and want to wait until after I turn 65 in July and will be on Medicare. I currently have a major health plan, but would have to put out a good bit of money on a cat scan right now so my oncologist mentioned I can wait a couple of months to have the scan and I can be on Medicare. Right now, I am paying on other medical bills as I had gall bladder surgery in February of this year and last May (2015) I had a minor Ischemic stroke for which I am still paying on so I do have other medical expenses right now. I plan to have these medical bills all paid off in the next couple of months. Anyway, it is a wonderful and tremendous feat for me to have reached my 5 year mark. I have lost 70 lbs in the past year also and I do feel much better and stronger from the stroke I had last year just from walking, eating and my gall bladder as I lost my appetite while going through the gallbladder situation.
I am Very happy for you as well that you reached your 5 year mark from UPSC last October and Congratulations as well, but I do feel bad that you had open heart surgery - I do hope your feeling much better now from that surgery from last October and are well on your way to recovery and to feeling better and stronger each day.
I do plan on remaining on the site and will check out various posts as I do have a few friends on the board I keep in contact with.
Again, thanks for your wishes and the best to you as well. I also answered the Roll call.

Thanks for responding to my 5 year post for UPSC and it is a big relief to me. I really appreciate your wishes, and I wish you all the best with your cancer journey and I do hope that you continue to remain cancer free and I wish you the best for the future.
I was diagnosed with Stage 1 of UPSC in February of 2011. I am very fortunate and lucky that I had an early stage of this rare and aggressive cancer and did eveything in my power for me to remain cancer free which I thankfully did by changing my eating habits for the better. I also went through 6 rounds of chemo and brachytherapy 3 rounds which is the standard procedure for having been diagnosed with UPSC.
I plan on checking on the Board frequently and do keep in contact with a few women here on the Board.

Thank you, For Your Encouragement & Inspiration
I've just boarded this journey three weeks ago. I know I have a long road ahead of me, but am remaining very optimistic. I'm still awaiting my pathology report. I wouldn't be doing as well, if I didn't have this wonderful group of committed ladies and some husbands, seeing us newbies through. So much to process and understand, in so little time (from diagnosis, surgery, to treatment (chemo/radiation).
I am sincerely overjoyed for your milestone. Please, keep in touch with us. Also, can you private e-mail me your diet changes and anything further you feel contributed to you beating this. Again, I'm at the beginning of my journey and am trying to compile as much information as possible, to assist me in remaining here a little bit longer to raise my precious daughters.
Again, CONGRATULATIONS!!! Much joy, love, and peace to you as you venture into this new chapter in your life.
