Scan scheduled for the 23rd

Finished 8th round of folfox for the two small tumors in liver that made up my recurrence. My oncologist and his nurse are confident it has shrunk them, but we'll see. Since I haven't gotten neuropathy, YET, he wants to do 4 more rounds if we see that the folfox has been working from the scan. With the caveat that surgery is the only real "cure"they seem confident that this might "cure" me, so the extra 4 are to give me the best chance. It is hard to not get excited by this news since the recurrence was so devasting the last time. The two lesions were small. 11 mm and 7 mm at the time of scan, but guessing they grew in the month and a half before chemo. And I say small because the largest of the lesions removed in my surgery was 7 CM, next was 5CM, so mm seems much smaller :) To be honest, I would be so happy if it keeps them away for 6 months to a year, so I can be "normal" for a bit. Hoping to stick around long enough for there to be a cure for me with a recurrence. There are so many promising "cures" in the works out there. One thing about having a "common" cancer is at least there is a lot of research going on.

Hoping for the best news on that scan, 11mm and 7mm sure sound "gettable" even if they grew a little. It's my scan and blood panel time now, which always bumps the anxiety a bit. Wishing you well.........................Dave

If you consider a liver resection you may want to look on HAI pump. I know it was discontinued several months ago but I think they started to use another one. What state are you in?

I am not eligible for a resection. One of the tumors were too close to something. I did get tested for the hai pump at MSk when I got my first second opinion.

for great news in your scan!! I was wondering how you were doing. Maybe ablation could get rid of them, hopefully someone will offer that to you.

My surgeon talked to radiology about it, and I think the hope was to shrink them enough so that it was safe. One was too close to an artery or something. I am really hoping my prayers will be answered and the chemo will kill it all.

I’m also a recurrence and back to chemo.

I really hope chemo alone can kill all the cancer cells but reading so many discussion groups and research, only surgery can really destroy them all.

Hope you have a great scan!

Surgery doesn't destroy them, it removes them. I understand you don't think I have a chance at it working, but I do and won't let your words get me sad and scared.

I'm really sorry if it turned out the wrong way and made you mad or scare.  I'm a stage 4 cancer myself and I guess I don't write well or express well.  What I was trying to say there is nothing to be afraid of either chemo or surgery.  Most of the members here went through multiple surgeries and they either went into remission or NED.

Again, sorry for the misunderstanding and hope you get great result on 23rd.

thanks everyone! It is so hard since the last time I got gut punched, but my oncologist seems so optimistic, it is difficult not to be happy and expecting good news.

Wishing the best outcome for the scan.  It's a good thing that you have no neuropathy after 8 cycles.  Some people can tolerate it better than others and if you feel up to going another 4 rounds then go for it.  If it starts bothering you at all though, please communicate that with your doctor as it is cummulative and can do damage permanently if it's not controlled.
