What Are You Doing For Thanksgiving & What Are You Cooking?

Just wondered what everyone was doing for Thanksgiving. Are you having a dinner at your
home, and if you are, what you are cooking?

We are having about 25 to 30 people for Thanksgiving dinner. I love cooking and think that this is the easiest meal to fix. Everyone is bringing something, so, I don't have to cook a lot. I've been cleaning my house like crazy ( hubby is helping too ) and putting out all of my Thanksgiving decorations. It is starting to look very festive here.


Wishing everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving, or, Happy Turkey Day! Yum! LOL

    We are having 20-25 ppl over too! I got my turkey yesterday , a nice 23 pounder! Of course there will be stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole ( made with fresh green beans, shallots and portabello mushrooms) a sweet potato/fresh pineapple casserole, cheesy corn/green chili casserole, salad, fresh cranberry sauce, rolls and pies.
    For pre-dinner appetizers, I am making a cream cheese and raspberry jalapeno dip ,baked brie, assorted nuts ( I am probably one of them LOL)and I am thinking of mini quiches, too.

    I have lots of bottles of Martinelli's Sparkling Cider~ apple, cranberry and white grape.

    There will no doubt be surprises, as I just let anyone who is coming bring anything they want to bring! The more the merrier, both people and food!

    And I have Pilgrim Rag Dolls on my table which have been run through with toy arrows~ being as I am the only White woman in the crowd, and I am cooking for Native Americans! It somehow adds the right amount of sillines to the holiday my husband calls ThanksTaking!

    25 to 30 people Susie? That is a lot of hungry mouths to feed. HA! We are going to my sister in laws for Thanksgiving dinner. I don't have to take anything other than my famous deviled eggs, and, a good bottle of wine.

    We always say a prayer at the table giving thanks for all of us being together and for God blessing our family.

    Looking forward to being with family and just having a great day!

    Oh, and football! Love that game!

    My all-time favorite Holiday!
    Smells wafting from the kitchen, family joined together enjoying a delicious meal...what's not to LOVE about the Thanksgiving Holiday? It's just "Home".

    So with that said, I will be over at my Mom & Dad's house where I was born 50 years ago together with my Sister, my kids, aunts, uncles, cousins and the most important of all...My baby grandson!

    Mom still makes the turkery and my Sister and I bring all the sides...can't wait!

    Going to a friends house and we are sharing the cooking chores, I have the mashed potatoes, homemade mac and cheese, green bean cassorale and pumkin pie squares.

    Family is all over the country so we do not get together unless they can come here. Mom is coming to visit she gets to make the pumkin pie squares.

    purchasing an apple pie, dont feel like cooking that

    We'll be right here in warm, sunny Phoenix
    with my son and new daughter-in-law. My husband's parents are flying in from New Jersey to spend the week with us.

    We'll be having an organic free-range turkey with all the trimmings. I always make a pumpkin pie and some other such as apple or chocolate cream. My stuffing usually gets more raves than the turkey--so I always make a ton.

    We'll have football on and I bought a new game to play after dinner. So thankful to be enjoying this Thanksgiving with family.

    I used to do dinner for 25+
    But not anymore. This year just hubby & me a nice, but easy meal. Playing with the dogs. Then quality couch time. Ooh! I can't wait.

    Hosting Thanksgiving Dinner
    with hubby but will be catering this year since I will be starting Partial breast radiation(mammosite) Monday and will be going twice a day all week except for Thanksgiving of course. Our DD, son in law, 17 month old grandson will stay for the Italian portion of the dinner only and our DS, daughter in law, 5 y/o granddaughter, 6 month old grandson, my sister, brother in law and 2 nephews will stay for Wegman's holiday dinner. I'm sure the food will be delicious but we are focusing on family being together. I am especially thankful for my final pathology report.

    i bring the desserts!
    i am a baker so i will be bringing apple strudels, pumpkin cheesecake, and something chocolate - haven't decided on that yet.

    going to my mom's house to help her put dinner together. my niece is leaving for air force basic training on december 7, so we are going to have christmas with her and her children on thanksgiving.

    i am just hoping that i will be able to make the 3 hour drive without incident!

    chemo #6 (final) next Tuesday. Fortunately my daughter and sil cook Thanksgiving dinner. I'm bringing a fruit pie and butternut squash casserole. I'll have to ask my onc if I can have any wine :-)

    Dear Chen, Would you please share your recipe for the sweet potato/fresh pineapple casserole? That sounds so yummy.

    We will be going to my sisters for dinner. I will be bringing Irish potatoes, corn pudding and beer bread. Hugs, Jean

    Turkey, turkey, turkey. I'm just like my cat. We pace and drool together while the turkey is roasting--yum! I am having 7 people over, but I still bought a 22 lb turkey cause everyone in my group wants leftovers and then I'll make more gumbo with whatever is left. Also having french bread stuffing, wild rice, fresh cranberries with walnuts and satsumas, spinach/artichoke casserole, salad, pumpkin and apple pies. My niece is vegetarian so I may have a soy dish too?

    ON THE ROAD AGAIN!
    We are traveling to Arizona day after tomorrow with our son and his gf: destination my brother in laws. He will be hosting much of the family, count to date is 18 staying with them. They are doing a pit bar-b-que where the turkey and other meats will be well seasoned and buried and allowed to cook overnight, should be primo by the next day. It's fun as they dig a huge pit and all the neighbors bring over what they want to bar-b-que and throughout the night they monitor it in shifts.

    The day after Thanksgiving we will be have a WEDDING!!! My brother in-law is going to marry his long time girl friend so we will be partying for two days! It is a cowboy themed casual wedding everyone is wearing jeans and cowboy shirts, should be great fun!

    Green Bean Casserole
    Ingredients
    1/3 stick butter
    1/2 cup diced onions ( I am using shallots~ I like their sweet flavor better)
    1/2 cup sliced fresh mushrooms ~white buttons are fine!
    2 cups sliced Fresh green beans ( I was able to purchase bagged, fresh, already cut green beans in the produce section of my local market)
    3 cups chicken broth ( one box of the low sodium chicken broth)
    1 (10 3/4-ounce) can cream of mushroom soup ( I don't know if you have a Trader Joes, but they have Portobello Mushroom Soup!) Campbell's Mushroom Soup is fine otherwise!
    1 (2.8-ounce) can French-fried onion rings

    1 cup grated Cheddar
    Directions
    Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

    Melt the butter in a large skillet. Saute the onions and mushrooms in the butter. Boil green beans in chicken broth for 10 minutes and drain. Add the green beans, mushroom soup,3/4 of the onion rings, s/p, to taste, to the onion mushroom mixture. Stir well. Pour into a greased 1 1/2-quart baking dish. Bake for 20 minutes, then top the casserole with the Cheddar and remaining onion rings and bake for 10 minutes longer, or until the casserole is hot and cheese is melted.

    breaking with tradition this year. I have always cooked on Thanksgiving but not this year. We have been invited to a friends house for dinner. I am making the pumpkin pie. He won't let me make anything else.
