I have IBC, which behaves very differently from other types of BC. IBC often never even involves a tumor, but spreads in "sheets". I did have a tumor and the chemo shrank that down to a "spot", leaving that spot and some others (that were previously "sheets"). Then the mastectomy removed all those "spots". Now radiation should kill cells remaining along the chest wall or in the lymph nodes. At least that's how I understand it.
Having Clear margins is great news.
I hate to bring this up, but when I hear about positive lymph nodes after Chemotherapy I am very concerned. Please ask your doc again.
Please forgive I want the best for you and I am not an oncologist.
Hugs

Glad the chemo did its job and the margins are clear! I guess Gabe and Abby are the beautiful children in the photo, so if I am right, Go Celebrate!! Now I'll pray that the radiation does its job just as well.
It sounds like things are moving in the right direction, congratulations! Best wishes throughout radiation.

Oh Linda, I'm so happy that the chemo worked and you are doing good. I'll be holding your hand through radiation. Take good care.

Clear margins...hurray!
Clear margins...hurray! Hope your recovery from surgery is going well.
Chemo is truly amazing. My chemo was AFTER my bilateral mastectomy, so I didn't get to really "see" it working.
The advice about skin care is right on. My center showered me with Aquaphor and Biafine. I only needed to ask, so you may not have to buy any if your center is like mine. I remember that at first I didn't notice any effects from the radiation. Don't let that lull you into not being vigilant about slathering the lotions on. I never got badly burned and I believe it was partially because I greased myself up every four hours or so once my radiation oncologist told me to start using the lotions.
You'll be looking back at this part of your journey before you know it! Best wishes. xoxoxo Lynn0 -

Great news!
Linda,
Take care of yourself and make sure you REST when going through radiation. It may not seem like a lot (10-15 minutes of rads each day) but as you have additional treatments you may get tired more quickly. The effect builds up and as you have more treatments your body works at healing the area of treatment which pulls energy from the rest of you. Like Sue mentioned, use the lotion or cream your rads doctor and nurses recommend right from the start. It will help reduce skin problems like burning and dryness.
My advice: take naps whenever you can.
Take care and keep us posted on how things are going.

Congrats Linda on such a good response. My original BC responded really well to chemo too, it's exciting when you know your tackling this thing. Best of luck to you on your rads and take good care of your skin as you go through them. Radiation was very do-able for me and my skin held up really nice.

I also have IBC, and i was wondering if they mentioned going through chemo again after radiation? From what i understand that is usual in IBC. My first doctor did not do chemo again after the radiation and that is why i ended up in this mess. If your doctor does not advise chemo again, get a second opinion. I had 11 nodes removed, and 5 were positive, doctor told me that was good, but he was so wrong. It is better to be safe.0 -

Meena, my heart has just sunk to my feet. I did not know that we would have to do chemo again. I just don't know if I can do it. I'm only halfway through my treatment right now and I'm actually doing pretty good, but I just don't want to have to do chemo again. I will do what I have to do to survive IBC but just thinking about more chemo is too much right now. I will ask my onc when I see him on the 10th.
