    All this sounds very familiar unfortunately. I am approaching to my final 12th chemo and I am already thinking - oh I am going back to work etc etc. Too much expectations on ourselves - we gotta slow down!! But it is not easy. And then there is fear of the unknown future what will hold for us. Here I feel we can blow the fears away by sharing our thoughts - it is a blessing!

    Hi all!

    I am new to this site, (new dx) I am scheduled for a PET and CT along with bloodwork on Monday (1/24) One oncologist on Tuesday,1/25 with a second opinion on Thursday 1/27. Any info or recommendations you could give me would be appreciated. I'm 54 with grade one NHL. I found an enlarged lymph node-2 cm in my groin, 8 weeks ago. The surgeon didn't feel any enlarged nodes elsewhere, and we waited to see if it would shrink, then did an ultrasound, then the biopsy. I was told it didn't look like anything, but it was sent to pathology, and was shocked with the diagnosis. Research on the internet is scary; my attending told me to stay off the internet. I am a RN, but have had very little exposure to oncology in my 30 year career.

    Welcome to this site.I was diagnosed in May 2010 with Follicular non hodgkins lymphoma. I can tell you it is all treatable. Do not feel you have a death sentence. We will have to know a little more about your diagnosis. I am sure you would tell us if you knew yourself. I can tell you the same thing as your friend,Stay away from those websites. They are useful in many ways but not on an individual basis. They will scare the crap out of you. I did the same thing when I was first diagnosed. You feel so alone as it is so you don't need those websites really confusing you. Please do not worry yourself sick over the diagnosis. It is serious to say the least,but not life threatening. You will go thru a battery of tests to get an exact diagnosis. We all went thru that. No, they are not fun,but needed.Keep us informed,I know exactly what you are going thru. You will get quite a few responses with in the next few days. John Follicular non hodgkins lymphoma Grade 1 stage 4 asymtomatic. Remission

    Hi Deb,
    June 2010 I was diagnosed with Follicular Non Hodgkins Lymphoma Grade2-Stage3-TypeA(non-symptomatic). My tumors were located in my left groin, abdomen, and neck. As of yet I do not have any bone marrow involvement. I finished 6 rounds of chemo-CVP-R on Dec.14th and will be getting a CT scan in the morning(Tues) to find out if I am in remission...won't get the results of scan until Jan 25th. Anyways....you will be having lots of tests done and it will get very tiresome, leaving you waiting and worrying and quite scared until all of the test results, complete diagnosis, and type of treatment has been determined. The best thing you can do as you start this process is to come here and ask your questions. We have all gone through this process and know exactly what you are going through. It is so scary when you first find out, and still will be as you go along, but having this group to communicate with will keep you sane and make it alot easier to deal with. Having everyone here to talk with has been a life saver for me. Please keep us up-dated and welcome to our family...Best wishes Sue (age 60).

    Thank you Sue. Did you find it yourself?? I wish I had the biopsy when first found seven weeks earlier, but it wasn't thought to be anything but an enlarged lymph node at that time. My dad was diagnosed with gallbladder cancer 12/1 and died 12/28, so I have been dealing with that also. We were very close. I look forward to the support of the group, and hope I have something to share also. Deb

    I am so sorry about your father. You are dealing with alot right now and I'm very glad you have found this group. The support here is just awesome. To answer your question...
    Yes...I found a good size lump on my left groin(quarter size, very hard) and a small lump on the left side of my neck(dime size, very hard) in January 2010. I called my primary care physician and went in to see him that same week. I had been sick with a bronchial infection prior to finding the lumps and had been on 2 different kinds of antibiotics. After examining me my PCP felt they were just swollen nodes caused from being sick and said we would check them out again at my next physical scheduled for the first week in May. Went in for my physical in May and my PCP decided that since the lumps hadn't gone away we needed to get some tests done. The rest is history as they say. I sure didn't expect the lumps to be cancer and seriously, the thought didn't even pass through my mind..totally thought they would be benign(sp)cysts or something simple. Blew me away when my PCP said it was cancer! I felt so healthy and good and didn't have a single sign or symptom to think it was cancer. Crazy how thing turn out, but it is what it is, and now we just learn to deal with it I guess. Ive been told we now have a "new normal" instead of the way we were before cancer..our "old normal". This new way of feeling is going to take some time for me to accept....I'm not use to being tired or run down and miss the active energetic person I use to be.
