I texted Mike today and he got back to me. He said,"tell everyone hi, and I miss them."

He's really not up to posting but he does think of everyone. Please keep him in your prayers and or send good thoughts his way. He has several scans, and has appts with oral surgeon and pretty serious issues with his jaw bone, sinus cavity and other stuff.

Thanks.

    Hi guys
Hi everyone, it's me "spare parts" lol

Sorry I haven't responded earlier, things went down hill a while back.
I finally sought out a new primary care doctor at a different hospital and she agrees that I was improperly over-radiated. The machine they had me own was always broken down or had just been "repaired" (obviously by someone very incompetent). The gearing would make mis-alignment noises as it rotated around me. This is why my heart started having excessive rhythm problems and also caused my stomach and intestines to completely stop functioning and losing 90 pounds rapidly. I repeatedly tried to voice my concerns of having nasty open sores all over my back, arms and chest and the skin turning gray down to my lover back. The technician and the head of radiation both said that couldn't be the case as "it's a precise machine"!

I am also seeing another doctor that is trying to help me get some control over the chronic intestinal spasming. Due to my pre-existing blood disorder I'm unable to have most pain medications without having serious reactions. He too agrees that it's all caused by being over-radiated.

But, it gets even better! Just before starting radiation, the oral surgeons removed all my teeth in the O.R. but they didn't bother to shave down the jagged upper and lower jaw bones in preparation for dentures once my gums healed. Because of this little over-site I have over twenty jagged points of bone sticking through my gums which doesn't allow me to eat much before the gums swell way up and I can't close my mouth.

Dentures were made but they wouldn't fit because of the bones sticking out...DUH!
So I was referred back to the oral surgeons to not only have the jaw bones resurfaced, but to also have 8 implants (4 top and 4 bottom) put in to hold new "snap in" style dentures.

The oral surgeon agreed that I need the implants but she blew me away when she pulled out the x-rays taken that day of my head and pointed out that the radiation had drastically deteriorated the sinus cavity bones and that where they have to put the upper implants there is not enough bone left. She then said they would have to go in and build up the existing bone with cadaver bone

I swear I'm the damned poster boy for "HOW NOT TO DO THIS"!!!!

Then a couple weeks later I'm told that the insurance company had denied me having the procedure done. I didn't think I could take much more, between the mouth pain, the horrific intestinal pain and being malnourished and weak, this was too much.

But today I got a call from the insurance rep and was told that they had reversed their denial and the surgery is going to be scheduled. I'm also getting a PEG put in as I'm told I won't be eating by mouth for some time. This will be PEG no.#3 arrrgghh!

My son is still in remission, but has developed some psychological issues which his doctors think are being caused from being on heavy narcotics for the last 4 years.

They are now trying to get him off the narcotics and switching him to something else that will help control the spinal pain even better.

Well guys I hope I don't sound like a whiner, but I'm just really tired, frustrated and irritated at the "quality of care" that has brought me to this point of this never ending General Hospital soap opera.

I'm concerned that this next procedure would be a good time for them to get rid of my whinny butt!

It is scary how we have to put our trust in these Doctors to save our lives and they don't always seem to do the most intelligent things. The idea of having a feeding tube for the 3rd time just makes me cringe. I hope that things will finally go the way it is suppose to on your next procedure and you start to feel better. - Judy

    Whiney? No Way
Even if you did whine - you got a right. Good to hear from you, even if a lot of the news is frustrating.

Glad the insurance company decided to OK the procedure - guess they decided that eating is important, after all. Sorry you'll need another PEG - have they let you know about how long you'll be on it this time?

Good to hear that docs are confident they can not only get your son off the heavy narcotics, but also control his pain better - that would be great. Hope your daughter's doing well - is she a senior this year?

Sounds like you'll need some time to heal after your mouth surgery - how great will it be to be able to eat a meal later? Hope things continue to improve for you all. Do well.

    Hi guys and gals
Thank you all for your support and encouragement.

I have to admit, even after going through a radical Whipple surgery procedure for pancreatic cancer and then last year, undergoing 12 surgeries due to throat cancer and several of the doctors screw-ups, this coming one for the face, gums, skull and another PEG has me kinda scared. It's not so much the surgery itself but more so of what they might mess up in the process. Well, you know that Murphy IS a close relative!
A resident doctor was suppose to have called me today from the Oral Surgeons department, to fill me in on what to expect after the surgery, but it didn't happen.
I hope someone calls me tomorrow, as I have to make a lot of arrangements to make sure my kids are taken care of during the post op recovery time.

I miss you guys and wish I was in better shape to be back on here more often.

    Again, thank you for everything
