Hi Everyone- Thank you
He is still in ICU with his chest tube in and we are having some blood coming out of the chest cavity. I'm not fond of the medical community in Las Vegas and don't think I should have to tell the doctors what to do. But, unfortunately, I had to request that they test the fluid to determine exactly what caused the pleural effusion and collasped lung. They told me "Well we're pretty sure it is from his pneumonia" ARGH! While it's most likely that (he's had 8 bouts of pneumonia this year - baterial, viral and fungal). He also had a stroke and heart surgery within the last couple of months .... so "pretty sure" just isn't good enough to me. I want to know for sure what caused the problem and I told them so. His lung isn't responding so well and we don't expect it to reinflate quickly because of his underlying lung disease but, if it doesn't respond soon we will have to consider surgery (lung resection). It's something that I don't want done unless we have no other choice. We now have his platelets up into the 30's (which is about his normal) but can't do any kind of surgery with them that low so we are still just waiting to see and giving the lung more time. He's had 3 trasnfusions to get his platelets up that high as they were down to 12!
So, that's it in a nutshell. Had a busy Christmas day as I made a large dinner for friends and then ran dinner up to my son so he could have Christmas dinner too. The nurse gave him IV zofran before he ate. He scarfed it down which is good because he's now at about 88 lbs and needs his food. As I was about half way home he texted me to say he had thrown it all up. UGH!
I am exhausted and not looking forward to Chemo tomorrow. Not sure if my platelets are up enough but will find out as I get labs first to determine if chemo is on the menu. I still have some low platelet symptoms but not too bad so maybe they are up enough. We shall see.
I am so sorry if I missed anyone who needed some love and support recently. Know that you are all in my thoughts.
Again thank you all for the good vibes, prayers and well wishes. Feel the love!!!!
