Pete,
If that's an Ileostomy you have, try drinking "high pulp" orange juice
(it's got to be the "high pulp" one though, the others won't work as well).
Grapefruit juice is better, but many medicines can't be used with
any grapefruit juice intake.
Dehydration happens fast, and 4oz per water per hour is a must.
Good luck...

John
will try sipping grapefruit and or orange, off to supermarket.
the bags been a ****, couple of leaks. yuk, wife is great but over it.
the bag does not take high flow well. might add some of the pulp from vege jiuce back into
mix as well. my gut feels miserable like me. its been really hot here as well so it does not help with dehydration.
off to brew tcm.

Pete I still have mine too. My stomach is making so many noises and gurgling. I can not imagine it coming out any other way then into the toils. So much water and gas. Maybe that why I have been bloated.0 -
I sure as hell don’t miss my damn bag
I sure as hell don’t miss my damn bag. Also listen to John. Drink plenty of water. It is not gas in that bag. I tested for that and it does not burn. It is just a big load of stink that has not had the time to ferment.
I will tell you that rye bread will pop a hole in it. The damn seed stays sharp. I had my first (in 90 days) hard salami & pepper cheese on Rye today for lunch. It was fantastic.
I have only been to the john 2 times today. The days of crap storms are over. I hope.

Yep Pete
I can gurgling with the best of them. Worst I ever had was after drinking the barium for a CT scan. Only time I ever had a blow out of my bag .... driving home from the scan ... yikes!
As John said, try adding the pulp or some other nice fiber to bulk it up and hydrate. Good luck!0 -

slippery elm herbal supplement really helped me
was advised about this on my live in cancer retreat.
its been a fabulous experience, like up quest for life.
the diarrhea was chronic emptying bag every hour or two at night.
getting mild cramps.
i look absolutely shocking. had a couple of gas/poo explosions
trying to stay hydrated and eat well, but no appetite and nausa.
the chemo must be finally hitting me. oh great. this is the worst i
have felt in months. I think i am getting better slowly and the bag has reasonable stools at the moment.
if i get desparate with diarrhea again then I will try slippery elm. it helped me.
has anyone else used or heard of this
thansk for the support.

Oh Pete, I sure hope you are feeling better by now. I'm a little late reading about your tough last few days. Sorry you've been having a hard time with the bag and all. I'm so glad mine is gone. I hope yours will be soon also.

Been a couple of years since
Been a couple of years since I had my ileostomy but I do remember eating one food that thoroughly plugged me up...tortilla chips and cheese dip. Up until that point, it was normal for me to empty my bag every 3 hours including during the night. I took 2 immodium after each empty. The tortilla chips really stopped all movement and I had to drink 3 full bottles of water to get things moving again. FYI...I ate alot of those darn chips . Moderation would have been a better idea. I'm assuming you are are on a normal diet and can eat what you would like.0 -

Pete, I take 2 Lomotil every three to four hours just to keep out of the bathroom.
Sometimes it doesn't work so well.
There have been many times I wished for a reversal and have my Ileostomy back.
The butte pain from the fissures are terrible.
My surgeon said to give this 2 years and then we'll talk ostomy. I am on 6 months now, with my bowel training.
Oh well, I am alive and that counts alot.
