Hi JohnSkiffin16 said:Cat's In The Cradle
They grow up way faster than you'll ever realize....
I can remember the days when my children were just babies and toddlers especially. Now my daughter is 25 and my son 30....very hard to think my little boy is 30 years old.
It always reminds me of the Harry Chapin song, "Cat's In The Cradle"....
Best,
John
You are so right; I can only look back on the times I missed not being with my children when they were smaller. The things they did that I was too busy to be there to busy to take the time and be with them. Now they have families of there own and I have grand children to make up for the times I missed with them.

Hi GlennaGlenna M said:So much talent...
Seems like everyone here has such special talents except me - LOL. I enjoy a little bit of everything...I LOVE gardening and am always outside during the warm weather either weeding my gardens or walking. Unfortunately I don't walk much during the fall, which is absolutely the most beautiful time of year. The reason I don't is because I'm a wuss...we have a rather large black bear who is seen roaming around quite often in the fall looking for something to eat so he can fatten up for the winter.
In the winter I love reading, sewing, crocheting and baking. I guess I'm lucky because I have such a wide variety of interests that I can always find something to do that will keep my hands and my mind busy.
Thanks Hondo, this is a really great thread, it gives us a chance to know each other on a more personal level.
My best to everyone,
Glenna
We are all just one big family, what makes it great is not so much the thread but the people who are all part of this family on this thread.
Thanks and take care0 -
Hi Matthewmatthewcplourde said:Links are on the Blog!
Yeah Hondo - follow the links on the right hand navigation Some of my shorter fiction is there. Free and less than 1000 words! Enjoy!
Thanks for the link, I will be looking for the Eden book as soon as it is available and you are so right the Bird sings because it has a song to sings just like you have a story to tell.
Take care0 -
Hi rozaroorozaroo said:Talented people!
It is amazing how much talent is on this site. John your art is amazing! I checked out your
expression page awhile back & was totally blown away. We all have such a variety of different interest's & passion's in our lives. When I was younger fishing with my dad & later with hubby & kid's. Once the kid's flew the coupe we were into building homes & doing reno's. I eventually got tired of working my butt off & decided to let my feminine side show. I opened a fashion house & worked with a top canadian designer for 15 year's. She was also an artist & now has opened up her own galllery in Toronto. Then later sold diamond's untill hubby said I was buying more than I was selling but still dabble in it for old customer's of mine. Cooking & baking I love more than anything, now I am trying to get my energy back to contine with that. Having my girlfriends over & going out on a Saturday afternoon to the Country matinee & dance my socks off! Have to get more energy back for that one lol!
You are so right a lot of very talented people here. I love to try some of your cooking I am not big and I can’t eat very fast but boy I love to eat.
I can’t say I am much on the dancing as I fall over my own feet trying to walk through a door, all part of the new normal.0 -

My lifelong hobby has always been art...and fishing, LOL. Both relax me and I always enjoy both.
The photo that you see in my profile is one that I did of Shelley my wife, and my Mother's Beagle, SweetPea.
It's done with Prismacolor on Canson Mi-Teintes Paper. Prismacolor is a type of colored pencil that I like to use frequently for portraits.
I have a few other photos of my art work on my Expressions page. My main interest in subjects is portraits, wildlife, waterfowl, and beachy street scenes with high contrast colorful awnings in bright sunlit backgrounds.
Looking forward to seeing others here that also have a favorite hobby that they love and relax them.
Best,
John

Shelley wanted me to tell you that your sense of humor is a talent. She loves your wit and comments on our FaceBook.
Best,
John
John, give Shelley a big hug for me and tell her thank you. Can you imagine that some people don't enjoy my sense of humor - LOL. Now if I could only make a living with it ;-)
Stay well,

Ahh...rozaroo said:Chapter's
It is a huge chain book store that has outlet's all across Canada! We have a Starbuck's at the one in my city. They have cozy chair's that you can sit at to review book's etc. Plus some evening's they even have entertainment. What I love about this store is they have computer station's set up where you can check to see if a certain book is available. If not, they are more than happy to source it & ship it in. I have ordered many book's & the service is wonderfull. Our Chapter's is roughly 10,000 square ft in size!
That sounds pretty neat! I'll have to head up to Canada for some signings
Stay tuned at my blog for news as to when it'll be available to order from bookstores... hopefully within 1-2 weeks!0 -

Thanks, is that painting of yours a watercolor...is that one for AIM?
I just finsihed a small painting for AIM (Arts in Medicine), my local Center.
I've always had interest and a talent for arts & crafts, even as a very young child. Migrating and evolving, I loved wood working an Industrial Arts when in school. I still occasionally make something wood working wise.
As for art it was a migration as well. I started first with regular graphite pencils, pastels, a little water color, a little in oils. I dabbled with serigraphy (silk screen) and printing. But eventually I migrated to acyrlic as I like the sharp details an they dry fairly fast. I tend to have a very realistic or representational style.
I read an article in American Artist several years ago on an artist doing colored pencil portraits and his technique. I tried it and liked it, so that's how I started with those.
It's nice to see so much diversity of talents and skills that we all have.
Anyways, thank you all for the kind compliments,
Best,

I forgot to add buying shoes as a hobby.
My first priority is spending time with our 2 little ones aged 1 and 3. Next is playing tunes in the beautiful Acoustic guitar (thanks Micktissue). Used to play a lot and messed in a couple of bands in a previous life, so it's nice to be back playing.
For fun & health I now ride most weekends with a group called the Chubby Riders. the rule is we 'weigh in' every week and pay a fine if no weight has been lost...except me. I have to increase my weight or pay a fine. Almost back to 80kgs.
My other hobby, now in remission, is flying. I flew WS Microlights for 4 years back home and loved it. had to stop when we moved back to China. Microlights are like motorbikes in the sky ! Before any thoughts of 'that's so dangerous', mine had the super reliable 912 Rotax Engine, quality Australian built and certified to CAA standards, in a 1:1 comparison, technically stronger than a 747, and I had a ballistic chute fitted, made by the same Co. that makes them for the Space Shuttle, which deploys in a few hundreds of a second and brings you and the aircraft down reasonably gently in case of catasptophic failure or mid air collision, both highly unlikely but a nice little bit of insurance.
I will post a few pics of the flying around my home town in my personal page as our little town is quite special. We have loads of dolphins, whales, sharks, long white beaches, lakes, rivers and beautiful blue water. I took many people up for a fantasic 30 minutes, mainly pensioners, as our town is predominanlty retirees. I got a huge kick taking them up for the 'buzz' of their life. As I couldn't legally charge them, I would settle for a coffee or an occassional bottle of wine, but the look on their faces was alway worth a million bucks.
Imagine flying along a beautiful beach, 10 feet off the white sand at 60knots with the warm wind in your face, dolphins leaping out of the water 50 yards away, not a worry in the world. What a beautiful planet we have.
Scam
PS Denis, would love to get to hear your music. I was born in 82 but i think I got hooked while in the womb. Maybe if you have it digitalized we can hook it up through a Drop Bax or similar. Mick would also love to hear your band.0 -

Humble Pie featured both Steve and Peter Frampton. Steve certainly had the best voice and the songs from Humble Pie (like 30 days in the hole) were more suited to Steve's bluesy vocal cords. Peter was a better guitarist than Steve, there was some friction I believe and that's why they never reached their full potential and peter did better in his solo career than Steve did. My first band was with Steve, a great singer and harmonica player. Hondo, if you e-mail me your address I will send you you an album I made in the sixties. Denis
You played with Steve Marriott? That's impressive. Frampton's pop sensibilities were definitely in Marriot's blues shadow. At the time they were vying for venues with other British blues rockers (Clapton, John Mayall, the Peter Green version of Fleetwood Mac - too early for Irishman Rory Gallagher?) - Marriot's style was what was popular.
I grew up in the Antelope Valley (Mojave Desert) shortly after Zappa left there to form the Mothers of Invention in LA. My best friend's brother was in Captain Beefheart and we saw a lot of gigs in the LA area from the backstage. It was pretty cool hanging out with the Captain but he was pretty controlling of the band. Image was huge to the Captain.
Music, music, music. I love it.
Best,
Mick0 -

Everyone is so interesting and talented
My life has revolved around my kids for the last 20 years. I used to take pictures of the kids sporting events and made video slideshows with music for the end of the season parties. Two of the kids have moved on to higher learning so I have only one left in high school to stalk. I haven't pulled out the camera since March. Maybe it is time to charge those batteries. I used to love to shop. Now it is more on-line then the thrill of the find in the store. I love to swim - I swam laps once this year. The weather is not cooperating. I am not closing that pool quite yet though.0 -

Stacey and John - love the artwork!!!
Denis and Mick and the other muscians - I'm always impressed with muscians. I've tried a few instruments in the past, but figured that was something you were a natural at or not. I'm the "not", but I love listening to about everything - jazz, blues, rock, bluegrass.
Scam, cool pic's from your flying contraption.
To everyone else - cool to see where everyone's interests lie and there appears to be an abundance of talent here!
Not much talent here, unless getting the meanest dog you know to roll over so you can scratch it's belly in 5 minutes is a talent (and catching big fish too).
Positive thoughts to all!

KimbaKimba1505 said:Homemaking
My hobby is creating a home. I have been creating hominess since I was a teen with my bedroom being my first space. I love sitting in a room and sensing what will color the walls and fill the spaces. I love brousing catalogs and home stores for just the right piece. Along with homemaking comes cooking and baking. I make a mean apple pie, chocolate chip cookies, banana bread, homemade baked beans. I was raised in Pennsylvania Dutch Country so that has been a very strong influence. My home gives me peace.
That is just how I pictured you to be. Your loving, comforting, nurturing and homey spirit are evident.0
