Thank you for this post. It is a wonderful idea. We have 5 cats, 1 dog, 5 hens. Four of our cats live outside, our newest kitten still lives inside, she is only 4 months old. Her name is "Gizmo". We named her this because she reminded us of the gremlin in the movie, Gremlins.
She is so cute, funny, energetic. She loves to peek around the shower curtain, sit on the kitchen counter watching us wash dishes, sits in the bathroom sink, and actually jumped in the toilet one day!!!! She also loves to eat green beans and green peas. She gives us so much enjoyment, I just might keep her as our inside cat! Thanks again and I hope more cat owners reply.

Cats
Hi Dave. Your tagline made me smile.. We have 2 dogs and 1 cat. We live in a township just outside city limits so it's semi-rural.. anyhow our cat, Trixie, was a stray and she has no tail. The vet doesn't know if it's a birth defect, some kind of injury.. anyhow we used to let her out all the time. (she is fixed, has her claws and shots). Then something happened and she was gone 2 days last summer.. and when I found her she was close to death.. very dehydrated, weak, disoriented. I took her to the vet and they said she had some kind of spinal contusion. They gave her meds and rehydrated her and she did regain 90% of her motor coordination. Since then, she refuses to go outside and has become morbidly obese.
Before she used to hide behind doors or behind corners and swipe at us or the dogs as we walked by. Now she just comes waddling when she hears the fridge open because she loves ham. 0 -

What a wonderful and refreshing form of therapy. Thanks for posting it! I have been a Cat lover all my life, They are the ultimate companion, as far as I am concerned, although I'm sure Dog lovers would say the same. They are all great, whether they are covered in fur or feathers. My Cat's name is Po'oki, It is the Hawaiian word for Cat, but I call her Poe for short. I got her from the SPCA, when she was 2 months old, and I believe I didn't pick her, she picked me! She is of the tuxedo breed, although sure she is a mix, but the most unusual cat I have ever owned, I say this because she loves water! If anyone anywhere, whether inside the house, or outside turns on the water, it doesn't matter if it's a sink, shower, or garden hose she is on it like prey, bating it with her paws. (not a pleasant visual) Very smart too...........I sometimes think she is really a dog trapped in a cat's body because she comes when you call her, just like a dog, greets you when you return home with lots of meows and rubs. plays fetch, not with a stick, but with a slitted plastic cat ball! She is my fury security blanket too, she seems to know when I'm having not such a good day and will jump into my lap and sit on me for hours, grooming me along with herself. What I find most amusing is how entertaining she is if you watch her for any extended period of time. Truly never a dull moment!

Dogs and other critters too!
Hi Dave,
I like this too! I have two boys, three dogs, two birds, a turtle, a fish, my son has a ball python and we have two mice that were spared from the snake! All of my dogs are strays - the oldest one is 12. It is wonderful to feel the unconditional love that they have for us!
I have never been a cat person - allergic, but my parents have been adopted by a mama cat and her babies - she's on the second batch now and they have brought much joy to her and my little boy. One of the older kittens - who is probably about six months old now is best friends with my parents dog - a small boston terrier who has tended to them since they were born. Needless to say, she is now very happy that there are more new babies - about a month old now. There is one tiny little runt - but she seems to be the wildest of the bunch - always wandering away from mama!

dusty and tux
We have 2 boys, both around 10 years old; one long haired gray that thinks he is a puppy, and one black and white who is much more sedate, a real lap cat. My boyfriend, who is the one with cancer, has recently asked that we keep them out of the bedroom at night; this is more because of an eye issue he is recovering from then the cancer, but I am accomodating him. I miss them curled up on the bed though. They do give me comfort. I'd probably have more except I'm in a smallish NYC apartment. Thanks for the post; who doesn't love talking about their pets

Cat &Dog
I have one cat and one dog. They are real company since my husband passed away. The dog is a two year old lab who thinks he is still a puppy and a lap dog. The cat is in charge of the household. He was here before the dog, and let the dog know the pecking order from day one. The cat's name is Trouble. The dog is Moose. Trouble is at least part Manx and came from a shelter. Fay0 -

We have a psychotic calico named Gracie. She actually owns the house, but she lets us live here because she can't work the can opener (no thumbs)She is amazingly fat, kind of like a furry lump of Kitty dough. She does love Mike, though. On the days that he's not feeling well, she's in whatever room he's in, and if he's in bed, she stay with him, sleeping on his feet all day. She hates everyone else in the world, however, and will come purring up to you if you visit my house, but if you pet her, she'll bite the dickens out of you just for spite!0 -

We have Jack (Aka Killer) Callie, they are our dogs they are mixed breeds and they are spoiled no grandchildren so They get all the toys. We have four cats Bear age 14 Strach age 13 Catzilla age 13 Gordie age 8 . They are all spoiled behond anyone wanting them besides up. They are all stray cats , I watched the first three be born, they forth cat out daughter found in the city, took three years to get her use to us. The dogs are Terrier and who knows what mix. I love my pets!0 -
Giant Cat
Dave, Great idea! I finally got my first cat 10 years ago. Binx, is over 25 pounds and a complete love bug! Like a lot of you, I got Binx from a shelter. He has no tail but this is not an abnormality, it's because he's a mixed breed that we believe has some Manx in him. He's always been a great companion (or Catpanion) but seems to have a sense of what's "going on" now. He follows me everywhere! He's a wonderful member of the family.0 -

don90, I think we have po'okis brother.His name is Batman.He was my sons cat but his wife is alergic.When any one turns on a faucet he will comes flying from anywhere.He too likes to bat the drips.He will also go into the laundry room and sit in the sink waiting for someone to turn on the water.Batman is a good name as he funs thru thu house like a bat out of H. I'm glad you enjoy the thread.My daughter read some posts and broke out laughing.
I should have named the thread different to attract all pet lovers.All are welcome.(Spiders and snakes too) Be back soon with some stories. dave0 -

Years ago when I used to work in radio promotions I did a promotion for Valentine's Day where I took treats into a seniors home and along with the treats had the Humane Society come along with some of their pets in their Pet Therapy program. It was a pretty new concept back then but today it's quite well accepted in many homes and even some hospitals.
When we arrived with our microphones for interviews and cameras they led us into a big recreation room but not much in the way of active recreation was going on. It was very quiet when we arrived, the walls were all decorated in hearts and red and white for the special day, some ladies and gentlemen in their red and white finery but there was no spirit in the room. All was quiet as they all sat their in wheelchairs or on beds rolled in for the occasion or in chairs staring out windows they had obviously looked out of hundreds of times before. Not a smile on one face.
When the doors flew open and in we all came with the little 'bark' here and 'meow' there the heads all turned, faster than you would have thought medically possible for some of the residents and immediately big smiles grew on their faces followed by yelps of glee and the yelps weren't coming from the pets either. lol.
The room just came alive. Over the next 2 hours that we shared the pets and treats the noise level rose so high nurses had to 'shush' some of the residents down, lol, it was wonderful to see the effect that these pets had on the residents.
I will never forget that day, it turned out to be much more than a promotion to me for sure, lots of lessons to be learned that day and then some.
As the management announced that time was up there were groans of disappointment but we promised to come back and I believe the Companion Program was put on their list of activities, at least I hope it was. All the residents benefited from contact with the animals big time - that was for sure.
I have 2 cats of my own and I can tell you that without their companionship and hysterical personalities I would be in a very different space right now in how I handle the late effects of cancer treatments, in my case. I can spend sometimes a whole day in a worried state about this procedure or that or this new symptom or that and one glance over towards one of my cats fast asleep with one leg sticking straight up out of the oovers like a flag post sends me into fits of laughter. lol.
God Bless these furry little friends, they are better than most of my medications I swear. lol.
All the best to everyone who sees the value in our animals to help us through the difficult times. And a pat on the head for your furry friends as well.

I have a large fat cat named
I have a large fat cat named Dawson. Unfortunately from living all his life with me and my daughter he does not have a fondness for males. When a male comes in the house he hisses and growls and then hides the whole time. When my boyfriend moved in he did the same thing to him. After he was diagnosed with esophagus cancer and at the end as the battle got tougher I would find Dawson curled up on the couch with him or sleeping on the back of the couch with his leg dangling on his shoulder. It was clear that Dawson knew he needed some extra attention.0 -

I have a grey tabby. I got him about a month ago. He is six months old. The animal shelter named him “Max.” I noticed that his pads under his claws are so big, he looks funny being so small with large fat pads. So I changed his name to ……”Maxi-Pad.” I am sure he will develop some kind of complex as he grows up.0 -

I have two cats which I got from Second Chance Pets. One is very shy and timid around people but crawls up on my chest at night to sleep. That's Tayson and he plays well with the other cat, Benji. Tayson runs to the door when he hears the garage door open and mews until I come in. Benji is 38 inches long and tries to open the door using his paw. He's so tall, he just reaches up to do it. Both are indoor only cats. Benji like to hide in the bathtub behind the shower curtain and meow like something is wrong so that I will come look for him. Then he jumps out to scare me and wants me to chase him.0 -

You know what they say,to dogs you are the greatest thing in world,to cats you are staff. My cats provide alot of entertainment around here.My hubby claims my momma cat has healing powers,she likes to sleep curled up on my stomach,especially when I'm not feeling well. my cats are mutt cats but are white with orange markings like a siamese and have blue eyes. their names are Koda,shes the mom and I kept 2 from her one and only litter and their names are Fatty and Fuzzbutt. Strange name I know but I love them. Some days they are my only companions.

Leon knows all
Mr. Leon the kitteh is named after my father, who died 8 years ago. He's 3 now, neutered and fit as a fiddle, and it's so much fun having a robust man cat around!
Strangely, our 17-year old hound mix is in doggie home hospice, getting hamburger every day, at the same time that I'm helping to look after my failing mother. They are both savoring the final autumns of their earth walks. Once the treasure season passes, I think they both will let go.0 -
About my cats
Hi Dave, I think this is a fantastic idea (especially since I'm a cat lover)! I just joined today and this is already going to be my third comment I've posted, so much support here, I wish I would have done this sooner. Anyways, about my cats - I have 5 that are all spoiled rotten. There names are Kitty (I know real creative, huh?), Jet (because she's jet black), Sparkles (feral and now fixed), Rascal(the trouble maker)and son of Sparkles , and Lil Sparks (the quiet one) and daughter of Sparkles. We did not have to go to a shelter to pick them out, they all found us! I started out with Jet and Kitty, then sparkles came along needing some nourishment because she was expecting kittens soon! Well, she never left, I guess she was very grateful for us taking her in and 2 out of the 3 kittens were more than happy to join the clan! It's a few more than I anticipated but you know it does feel good to know that they have a great life here because of us and we have instant entertainment at all times! It doesn't get any better than that! Thanks for listening.0 -
